why have I developed a bad case of apathy concerning skyrim?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:02 pm

Why did I not enjoy that game? Why? Why? Why? The answer because you don't. It's not like the meaning of life or the big bang theory your trying to work out.

hmmm

well that only thing that I think MW did better than skyrim is the massive "text" quests (which were very cool) and the massive amount of armor and weapons and cloths.... other than that I think skyrim beats MW and OB on every level

for me at least
Other than the loot and the quests and lore (which MW and OB did better imo) what else is there?

Skyrim feels like it was made to be GOTY, the previous TES games felt like their own little worlds.

Oh Bull. Im on the 360 and just reached 120 hours on my second character. This game is awesome on the 360.

I've heard this same argument since Morrowind.
But Morrowind was good on the Xbox!

Why is it the old Consoles had better games than the new ones?
I still love my PS1, PS2, Xbox, N64 and SNES!
Timeless, unlike Skyrim.

Skyrim is a bit hollow and shallow because we have lost too much content from the series.
There simply isnt as much game as with Morrowind.
Lack of good writing, such as interesting new lore, books, quests and the like also doesnt really help.

Its a very pretty game but its just a bit bare bones.

Don't play - do something else. It's a game, nobody is twisting your arm to play! Why come to the forums and cry about it? I'm on my 3rd character, played the game 300+ hours and I still discover new stuff. So everybody sees and experiences the game differently. This is life! Get used to it! LOL

If I hear the Morrowind comparison one more time, I'll scream. LOL Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim are all brilliant games, each in their own way and EACH ONE DIFFERENT!
Go play Morrowind, if you prefer it over Skyrim... *rolls eyes*

If we don't speak up now we'll end up with more of the same in TES VI. I don't want more of the same. I want a complex RPG that is deep and rich and fullfilling as Morrowind and as Daggerfall was. I don't want to play Morrowind, I want to play a current TES game that is as good as Morrowind and Daggerfall were.

If you prefer Skyrim over Morrowind, go play Skyrim. I'm not stopping you.

I blame heavy-handed Chinese brain surveillance. The Borg breaks everything it touches down to short-term instant gratification and base utilitarian mediocrity. My soul is crushed. Heart-touching. You buy now.

Interestingly enough I haven't encounters this, 280 hours across 4 chars restarted each time I've never really finished any of the guilds period since 11/11/11. I guess I haven't burned myself out on it, I personally never have on a TES game. Think it's a combination of mindset and exposure to TES games that let you hold out much longer.

lol, also a fair point. I'm on pc, and when the big mods start pouring in, it will definitely get me playing obsessively again : P
i completletely agree with you point about mods and i play on a pc and console myself but theres no reason to go all pc elitist on console players just cause they cant have mods my brother has racked up 450 hours on skyrim so i really woudnt call it wasted money-rant over

Ok sorry i wasnt ranting at you i was ranting at TheXenophobe who said if youre on pc get mods(which i agree with) but if u bought the game for console it was a waste of money(which is what i was ranting about-rant 2 over

Congratulations. You just realized that beneath its pretty face, Skyrim is ultimately shallow, unbalanced, and gutted.

pretty much. it's a shell of a game and i was hoping for best game ever or at least of the decade. all it had to do was take what itself and other games have laid out on the platter and add a little ingenuity, creativity and further development. nope.

what we got was good graphics in a great, living world, with leveling up what we do in-game with perks.

and, even the perks/skills are often pointless. and, let's not even start talking about the lack of depth, options, customization, rpg elements, dialogue, npc, companions, factions and meaningfullness.

this is a roleplaying sim game in a lively, handcrafted world where you fight, level, loot and roam with utter simplicity.

edit- and, after i do the guilds, mq and get my achievements it means back to morrowind and the fallouts. maybe even some oblivion.

You guys serious? You've played over 150 hours with one game alone, and then notice it's getting bland? You know, some people call that "playing so much with the same thing you get sick of it". Take a break, and play it again later.

And honestly, to those saying Skyrim isn't good: calling a game "bad" after continuously playing it for so many hours is pretty contradictory. Just my two cents. Sure, it's not Morrowind, but lighten up, will ya. We already know the story of Morrowind is better (I agree too). But I doubt there's still anyone out there who doesn't know it by now, the least Bethesda.

Play too much with any toy and it becomes tiresome. Play with something else for a while. Skyrim will still be there when you come back.
Exactly, that's the feeling that I currently have with Skyrim. I still love it but it will get old after a while just like Oblivion got old after 200 hours but that game was still good too.

The broken quests in this game have caused me to lose interest in Skyrim, especially the broken main quest. It's a serious flaw in this game. For example, I just happened to find Pantea's Flute long before I ever met the woman. I have the quest still active, but it broke because I already have the quest item. It sort of brings me down.

I've done all the guild quests except for the Theive's Guild, but I want to save that one for a new character. Right now I'm at level 49 and I'm just wandering around Skyrim, doing random things and it's getting to be dull. Once I get my level 50 trophy, I'm starting over.

This never happened to me with Oblivion. It was only last summer, about 4 years since I got the game, that I felt bored with Oblivion.

doggie-

that's part of the point: people, me included, have put THOUSANDS of hours into those other games and still go back.

skyrim has lost those people once they see/do most of what you can. and, the reason is that's ALL you can do in this game: find a new dungeon, get a new quest.

that is the ultimate of blandness and repetativeness in a supposed "rpg." which, skyrim ABSOLUTELY is not.

it's a roleplaying sim.

any argument involving the comparison between someone complaining abouty skyrim and how many hours they put into the game is a failed one. its shallow and loses. we are rpg/roleplaying gamers and so we will put our time into these games, figure them out, make our decisions and then move on.

or, should i say, move back to those games that are simply better.

I think u are getting older, my friend! That how I feel about a lot of the recent games. Or maybe Devs stopped trying make deep games and make copy and paste with little better looking graphics on top. To make quick money on the hype.

Yeah sorry I guess 280 hrs is irrelevant, what matters is that you go back to it, but for skyrim as others have chimed and I agree IMO it doesn't have that come back to me feel, more like been there for that.

Games are like that sometimes. Occasionally, we just need to go away for a while and come back to it later. Happens all the time, and not just with TES

You seem depressed, look for a psychologist.

sigh. You figured out, from a small paragraph long forum post about becoming bored with a video game, that I am depressed and need to look for a psychologist? And you gleaned this insight from the detailed character profile contained in my one paragraph rant, huh? Clearly, you didn't like what I said, and for some reason resorted to petty personal slights. Well done you brilliant mind.
