why i LOATH skyrim

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 10:17 pm

The reason i hate it is because i was soooo excited to be a mage, thats the only reason i got this game and all i did in oblivion. In syrim I dont feel like a bad ass because the mage simply svcks. Granted im ONLY at level 15 but from I have played and read here in the forums it only gets worse as far as not feeling powerful. On top of that the quests to become an arch mage were only like 8 which made it so unreal and i dont feel like I iearned it enough unlike oblivion and to top it off that arch mages robe is FUGLYYY...so disappointed I feel like bethesda pushed magic to the side this time. And what svcks even more I got it on consoles and not PC. I was soooo excited for this game.

Mages are plently powerful if you're relying on more than just destruction magic. I was disappointed with how short the Mage College quest-line was too. The robe looks nice and toasty warm at least.

Yep, completely your fault.

I think it speaks volumes about the games complexity and difficulty, all these rant's about individual failures. The game doesn't hold you hand and tell you that you're doing it wrong. Then we get all this whinge threads from people who don't understand.

Also you complain about the short mages guild quest?
I've not done it, but I have done the Oblivion mage guild - It was such blatant padding and rubbish objectives. Making something tedius does not equal "earned" it just means you sat around holding "W" key long enough.

Go to the College of Winterhold or whatever its name is. You'll get plenty of spells there. If you don't game this game, your loss. Someone else will enjoy it for you.

They aren't the same game, not even close. Just because you could grasp Oblivions character development doesn't mean you can Skyrims.

Oblivions development was FAR from difficult, you essentially had no way to go wrong and the game made sure that you would be safe.

Don't seek council from the Forums, its just rife with people trying to skewer you for no good reason. to them you are the "vocal minority" to them " you are not a fan" to them you are just some noob out of nowhere just to troll, when all of them were also "noobs to the forums" and you commited an even worse travesty by saying you loath skyrim, now you wont get an inkling of help.

and no matter how many threads detail whats obviously not right about your problem, you will always been told "you're doing it wrong"

The is Skyrim home of the Nords, muscle and steal and heroic deaths tales of blood and valor. This is Skyrim not Oblivion you need to approach it as a new game not a expansion. Its set many years on from the events in Cyrodiil, the University of Majic has been closed and Majic's use has been in decline over the many years with much of the knowledge lost. Majic is feared and treated with scorn and suspicion in Skyrim, but saying that I have a lvl 30 Mage and its good im loving it.

I do think they have dumbed it down way way to far with the spells and left other elements from oblivion that would have benefited from a bit simplification untouched.

Your strategy of "burn them with fire and hope for the best lololol" is stupid and noobish. You are not Goku, you're a Mage. Learn to act like one.

Yes, because the one % complaining on the boards are a representative and reliable source to base your own behaviour on.

People seem to do just fine with their pure mage types. Others don't. Don't blame the game for your lack of using all the spells you can and should find.

This is the argument that makes no sense to me.

A great anology in another thread was that if you're going to be a warrior, you have focus on your armor skills as well as your weapons. Otherwise, you'll find that you get your ass kicked a lot.

You're a mage. That means you aren't wearing armor. That means that if you just walk into a room with fire in your hands, you'd better be very fast, or be using a very powerful spell. Of course, if you were roleplaying a character who wasn't completely dense, you'd have invested some time into other schools of magic, in order to make things a little easier on yourself.

What?
No it wasn't. It was just about impossible to break the character unless your initial starting dungeon build was faulty. Then you could just get into the Arcane university and make a mega spell.

I see on this forum people talking about using Master level spells, doing quite some damage, enjoying their Mage build. To be frank, i think you are doing something wrong.

Next to that, i find the whole setting of Skyrim quite discouraging for mages, so i pretty much steered clear of becoming one. But that's just me preferring raw steel and blood :)
