Why do people use Lydia?

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 10:16 am

I personally don't like using Lydia simply because she's like the default companion. There's lots more out there to choose from.

I give her the best armor I can make and the best bow possible. She generally stays out of my way.

Lydia is ok, but I prefer annekke. I tried mjoll for a bit too. If you don't like lydia, there's also her less snarky blonde twin in solitude.

I read on the wiki she is broken, she doesn't level when you do and since you meet her at such a low level she is useless later. I used the command "player.placeatme a2c8e 1" and got a level 26 version that kicks some serious butt. Wonder if its all followers or just her , according to the wiki it seems to be all.

I've got Mjoll the Lioness dressed up in upgraded Orc amour and Orc weaponry, havn't unlocked any more smithing perks yet. She hasn't fallen in battle yet, not even when tanking a blood dragon with an axe. :flamethrower:

I am sworn to carry your burdens.

That made me hate her... if you don't feel like carrying my stuff just say it :flame:

haha yeah, very passive aggressive or something
it's like she doesn't like working for you AT ALL

If I'm honest about it it's because she was the first one I came across (practically dumped on me) and she does a good job. I'm in the market for a caster at the moment though. As soon as I find a caster I'm going to retire Lydia's knees.

I also have L in top notch armor. She gets my hand me downs. She now looks awsome and kicks some serious metal. Sometimes I fight her myself after I save and before I log just so she wont get a big head.

Funnily enough when I gave Uthgerd the Unbroken a full set of Exquisite Dwarven armour she equipped it immediately but seems to arbitrarily switch between that and her "bog standard" armour (Iron, Steel or whatever it is).

From experience, I've noticed that the companions switch back to their old gear when you zone into wherever they may be waiting. When they're following you and you zone into a new spot, they'll retain whatever armor you gave them (assuming it's better than what they originally had). To circumvent this armor switching bull [censored], I used the following console commands:

"showinventory"
"removeitem "
"equipitem <1>"
Show inventory will list everything they have, including the object ID for that item (very useful). Funny enough, they seem to carry 100 pieces each of their default gear (100 steel armor, 100 boots, etc). However, these items are not reflected in the actual trade inventory. So, I equip them with what I want them to permanently equip by using the "equipitem" function. The # following the command indicates a forced equip (meaning they'll always use that item no matter what), while a 0 - or no number at all - is default. I used removeitem to get rid of the excess pieces of gear because for some strange reason, they continue to default to their old gear when you zone out and back in, despite the fact that they were forced to use the item via console command.

I have two fully furnished houses and I have 30k gold left. I don't need anyone to carry stuff, I don't loot things anymore.

My wife, Mjoll the Huntress, is decked in a full set of ebony armor with an ebony battleaxe. She packs a punch. Shes also invincible for me for some reason.

I killed Uthgerd on accident. I was furious. She beat the tar out of things.

I use Lydia, because travelling with her is non-stop comedy.

(Not my video, but I've had this happen... repeatedly.)

I use her because she was awarded to my character and, so far at least, does a good enough job of carrying and killing.

It's pretty much all followers. Their stats are generated the first time you meet them and dont level from there. We are all pretty confident it is a bug. Have a read:

Because Uthgarde was slain by a giant that rocketed her into space... And then later when she mysteriously revived I murdered her in the woods for her impressive armour... Not realizing that I could have just traded my weaker stuff to her...

Yes

Yeah, stupid question, my bad. Just picked up a set of dwarven armor. Traded it to Lydia, she immediate (and obviously) donned the new armor. Hey, questions from a level 11 (at the time) whaddyagonnado?

Honestly, I can't bring myself to get rid of her. I have put so much work into her gear, and she's followed me so far around the province that she sort of deserves it. On the other hand, I have been stockpiling gear for future Followers, I just don't have a full set yet. Also, I have another Housecarl but don't see the point since they are identical.

I ask myself this question everyday, I cant stand her and she can't stand me, always yawning and making snide comments about carrying my stuff. But still somehow I'm used to having her around now. <_<

I mostly kept her in my house on the xbox but I ran through it real fast on easy so I didn't really need a follower. I did notice she kept bringing guys over when I wasn't there and I am not cool with that... she needs to keep it in her armor.

I will probably look for a better follower on the PC since I intend to play this on a higher difficulty and take my time.
