Why the hate on Activision?

Post » Fri Dec 21, 2012 3:42 pm

Seeing as I don't necessarily play any games they publish, I don't know/think much of them, but I see a lot of people, and some "gaming vets" who don't like them.

Why?

Because that's what all the cool people do.

It's probably mostly due to the Call of Duty series and anything related to it. The series is... polarizing to a lot of people.

Hipsterism is ruining the world.

I mean the Internet. But the words are interchangable to me.

They have a habit of expertly milking extremely [censored] game series, such as Call of Duty.

Their good at milking money, I'm just jealous I can't milk money from people like Activision does.

Both of these. Their business practices just irritate me. Which is milk every game and every staff member dry of their worth and then discard it for the next victim.

I bought Prototype for PC, nice idea for a game but quite buggy and with severe performance problems. Then i learned Activision do not allow their developers to patch single player only games. Haven't bought any from them since.

Not "hate", just ignore

And i don't buy Ubisoft games because they have [censored] stupid DRM. All others are fair game :hehe:

"Hate" is such a strong word. What I feel is more an indifferent distaste borne by long disappointment. They used to be great, but now are just incredibly greedy.

Because they made Call of Duty the gold standard of the interactive entertainment industry.

I actually am to. Their marketing department is insane. Not only can they release [censored] games, but their MD can actually release information that describes the game has hardly changed, and they get even more sales than last time.

It may be better to say that they ruined each other. I think.

Hell, if you're going with that it probably started with Halo: Combat Evolved.

They probably think we should be grateful that they even bother to develop any single-player games.

Many dislike Activision because of the way they have treated the CoD franchise.

Forcing IW and 3arc to release a game every year without the proper amount of time for development leads to terrible products.

Oh, okay.
Halo never had anything to do with DLC though.

Call of Duty is not the gold standard of video gaming in any way, shape or form save for perhaps "how to make easy money."

To players? No.

To companies who see each consecutive CoD game breaking sales records? Yes.
