Why would morrowind --- skyrim...

the money just means they did a good job with hype and getting the word out that plus the real TES scrolls fans talking about it built up a buzz and the trendy gamer wanted in to,that, and the fact that the new fallout series attracted new gamers, and the new popularity of fantasy literature, movies i.e. game of thrones and LotR ,has helped where a fantasy setting isn't as taboo to the average Joe as before, where as in the past games like d&d,TES and other things where pigeon hold as for dorks, geeks, etc.while it can be said money is the bottom line,it isn't everything, sir.

Lol, someone's upset. You being older than me doesn't mean squat btw. If you dont want to discuss with me then dont. Dont get upset over nothing. If people go back and forth with me, thats on them, not me. I'm not forcing you to respond am I?

I dont think I know everything, I just stand by what I say. And being older doesn't mean you know everything either. Are you offended that I'm younger and discussing with you? It seems odd that you randomly brought up my age.

Whatever the case may be, lets continue with the discussion and dont get so hot next time.
Shake hands and move on?

your age is in your profile,i checked it out because i wondered how i could agree with you on certain things very much, then be utterly appalled at other things you have posted,as for the OT i really am indifferent i mean name a bandit don't it would only affect me if somewhere down the road in the next game, book, dlc whatever there was a mention of say Rochelle the red and i would stop and say huh,i killed her. but i was very offended that you and maybe others like you would only judge TES series games by units sold,i am very sorry i blew up tho, that wasn't right, and i assure you i know well and good i don't know everything.

I figured you did, but I dont see how my age would answer your question. People are simply different. My opinion wouldn't change if I was any older. That said, I can be argumentative and do have a tendency to get people upset quite often, so I do apologize.

I agree you cant judge it purely on units sold, but it does show that they're doing something right. Brink was hyped up pretty high, and that game didnt sell well at all. I'd say quality of quests went down a bit, and they did get rid of a few things like magic creation (worthy trade to me since magic is much more fun to use than in Morrowind and Oblivion) but everything else has greatly improved.

I miss the depth of Morrowind.

I miss that a bandit cave had named NPC's, because you have so much more reason to care about someone with a name than a 'bandit'.
Maybe Ill sneak past them and steal my objective, then teleport out, because a cave (on the Grazelands) with only Argonian and Khajiit named NPC's is something special. Maybe I speculate they are escaped slaves.

Cant do that in Skyrim with 'bandits' and 'Forsworn'.
They respawn too and I dont like that.
It takes a sense of accomplishement away from the game. In Morrowind I truly got to make it a safer place.
Morrowind did it perfectly. all non-unique enemies (daedra, animals, unnamed vampires, dwemer constructs and ghosts, undead) respawned but named enemy NPC's did not.
As such they meant more.

Skyrim also has quite a number of oversights of enemies that should not respawn, but do.
The named spider under Markath, the Forsworn at that mine you clear for the miners who happily go back to work only to be killed when the Forsworn respawn, the Draugr in that sinkhole that kill the NPC's who go back to work as well, many more.

In Skyrim, no matter what you do, you dont get to make the world safer (or more dangerous) because everything respawns, nothing you do matters and you cant kill any named NPC because they are all essential.

The main reason random NPC's aren't named is because bandit caves need to respawn to facilitate the randomly generated 'go here and kill people' quests.

So I guess it's a necessity that there are less named people, but even so I think that something was lost in no longer having virtually all human/elvish/beast NPC's with a unique name. It's not that your character somehow knows everyone's name (ColonelKillaBee...) it's to give the player a little more background on a given dungeon, and remind them that these people aren't just nameless pieces of meat, they're actually supposed to be their own characters. Some bandits in Morrowind share last names with other important NPC's, and it makes you think 'Did I just kill my character's friend's brother?' Some Dunmer bandits have family names with ancestral tombs. When you pass by one of those tombs you might think 'Huh, that guy I killed back there must've had a family and ancestors. I wonder if there's a next of kin somewhere in the game? Will the person I killed ever be laid to rest in this tomb, or is he still rotting in that dank cave?'

The effect is to make the world that much more deeper, and interconnected. Killing a person is more significant - they don't come back, you can actually go and see their family members, you can in effect even visit their grave, or at least the graves of their ancestors. It's all terribly cool, really. It's part of what makes Morrowind special for me, even if getting rid of a lot of named NPC's is basically an inevitability.

Name and all  Imagine the scare I got when I wandered there for the second time and she just dropped on my head unexpected. Spiders, ugh.
I think this is a minor oversight due to pressure of release date.
Someone forgot to unflag the 'respawns' thingy or something like that.
There are several named enemies that do not respawn and there are also more than one dungeon whose occupants get replaced with a new type of enemy after you kill the quest enemies, so obviously thought has gone into this sort of thing.

There are sadly many enemies and locations that do respawn even when it doesnt really make sense that they would.
An example that is notorious is that quest you get from reading that book 'Legend of Red Eagle'.
You can do that quest over and over again because every time you read that book after the quest, the quest triggers again and if youve waited 30 days the enemies will respawn too.

...wow. Damn that stupid (and admittedly epic/awesome) release date!
