Why would morrowind --- skyrim...

Post » Sat Oct 06, 2012 11:49 pm

Why would --- they go from naming every individual NPC in morrowind, with all that breadth and mysticism, to such bland stylings in skyrim...

did they figure Technology/new mechanics >> atmosphere immersion?

my words are as askew as not being able to explain the true unique flavor to morrowind

to the pile of rot that i see skyrim as.

I really don't understand. What seems to be the problem? Are you talking about bandits and such having unique names but they are using generic ones in Skyrim? That doesn't really bother me too much.

1. Naming every npc was silly since realistically your character wont know everyone's name.

2. Skyrim>Morrowinds stylings by worlds.

It's stupid that your character knows every NPC's name. It's not like every encounter with a band of bandits starts of with a friendly introduction, after which you club them to death. I think it would be even better if you wouldn't even know all names of NPCs in cities. You'd only know their name after they introduce themselves, instead of you miraculously knowing everyone's name.

Knowing everyone's name before you even know them? Thats a good thing?

Because it's silly to have named NPCs come back to life after you kill them. I'd rather have respawning nameless enemies than named enemies that never respawn. Otherwise, they'd have to go back to Daggerfall-style random names, but that can come out rather silly too.

It's the same for Skyrim.
"I've just arrived in Whiterun. It's a large city in this foreign land of Skyrim. I've met a curious fellow who told me HE WORKS FOR BELETHOR AT THE GENERAL GOODS STORE. His name must be Sigurd."
(Is that how you spell his name?)

I think its Sigrud or Sigrund, but in Skyrim you dont know everyone's name, so its different in that regard. And for the better.

I love Skyrim to death, and feel it's much closer to what I wanted out of a current gen Elder Scrolls game than Oblivion was, by leaps and bounds. But, while I'm probably nearly alone in this... I liked many of the things that a text based wiki-like system allowed. Sure, it resulted in a lot of repeat topics. Sure, it didn't necessarily make sense that you knew everyone's name. But it created an impression of depth and granularity that I just don't feel with shorter spoken dialogue segments. Everything just felt grittier and more lived in, and having to read everything made everything a lot more verbose and detailed. It felt more like researching a whole culture, whereas Oblivion and Skyrim feel more like being in a place that presents only the surface of a culture to me. (Although Skyrim feels far more detailed and distinct in this respect than did Oblivion, and I love it.)

While naming everyone isnt really needed, i agree with your post, and that i also cannot explain Morrowind either.

As for Skyrim, well my sig says how i feel about it.

Quality > Quantity, always.

If you say so. Skyrim's sales says otherwise. The quality has gone over 9000.

cant go by sales... i buy tons of game cus i think it would be awesome and then its junk.

not saying thi sgame is junk but in terms of ancestry in elder scrolls lineage...

true but you still know everyone who isn't hostile so this whole thread is pointless. Nazeem is nazeem the first time you meet him when his name should be "annoying redguard" before you find out his name

i love these morrowind is better bla bla blah threads...if you feel morrowind is better then go play it and stop trying to convince us skyrim fans in the skyrim forum that morrowind isn't outdated crap :P

Its not pointless, because not knowing bandit names and such is still better than knowing every single npc name period. To the rest of your post including the nazeem thing, all I can say is...
Lol, so true.

What I am saying is ---

The Elder Scrolls Morrowind is the greatest game in the history of the universe. because you take 500 swings u miss 300.... genericism....

the lore and depth of story line dedication --- phenomenal...

skyrim --- uber tastic combat environment the whole shebang who needs a vacation when u got mountain ranges...

but the stupid generic story line quality is just that stupid and generic..

i am disappointed and i am expressing this.

i was well invested into the quality of this series.

and skyrim let me down man.... it let me down...

like u know that world order sequencing that happens where like well i just found out 2009 its hard for me to truly hammer down the finer points of it.

but yeah there is some major depiction going on with what has happend to skyrim in elder scrolls series..

it would be fantastic if they platformed off of this into like morrowind meets skyrim meets diablo

no one seems to like double spaced format

its like the comprehension of words forged together in rough concept

goes right out th ewindow

like do you know what goes means

then the right

and then out

the window

you see...

what im doing is breaking down what i just said... by repeating it.. because.. its clear as day what im saying...

and im always right.. because when im not i indicate that im not right...

sooo... yeah..

didnt say i wasnt right here...

move along.... or reach out for a complete overhaul of skyrim in this post

...Okay, I think I get the gist of it.
What do you want them to do? Build the game from the ground up? Or is this one of those "I rage so that the next game can be better" things?

the money just means they did a good job with hype and getting the word out that plus the real TES scrolls fans talking about it built up a buzz and the trendy gamer wanted in to,that, and the fact that the new fallout series attracted new gamers, and the new popularity of fantasy literature, movies i.e. game of thrones and LotR ,has helped where a fantasy setting isn't as taboo to the average Joe as before, where as in the past games like d&d,TES and other things where pigeon hold as for dorks, geeks, etc.while it can be said money is the bottom line,it isn't everything, sir.
