Why do you get killed for killing a chicken?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 8:54 am

Seriously. I don't think there's any need for that. I killed a chicken in Riverwood with my bow and the next thing you know all the guards were trying to kill me. They did in fact kill me. Harsh that is.

I'd probably be a little mad if you killed off my food source in a place like Skyrim.

I killed one when I first got to Riverwood and a man came running up to me trying to punch me. I backed away and he ran off to a house, thinking he'd gone away but he came running out with a two handed axe!

Lol, I ran away and then tried to fight him but he killed me :)

That chicken was the beloved Holy chicken of the town. Everyone loved that chicken to the days of their demise.

Exact same thing happened to me haha... it was a harsh reality check really, I liked it... it was like,"Oh of course they would be pissed off if I launched an arrow right at their feet headshotting their chicken."

I just went to an autosave, because they wouldn't stop being mad at me haha... And I wanted to redo that, b/c I was just messing around really.

Yeah I did a dragon shout on a chicken in Riverwood to see them go flying next thing you know I was being executed all over again.

I think the chicken thing must be a joke at Bethesda. It really makes no sense. I could see maybe paying a 1 gold fine for killing someone's livestock, but having a whole town jump you. Crazy.

I had to test my fire spell out on something. At least I got some fried chicken. I almost got to Whiterun before a guard collared me. That 50 Septim chicken was my most expensive meal so far. Riverwook folk sure take their chickens seriously!

Chickens are holy animals in Skyrim. A bit like cows and Hinduism. Do not harm the chickens or you will go to hell.

Seeing as how you are an outsider damaging the property of a farmer in a small town, I can see why they would stick together. If I saw you hurting my chickens in real life, I'd send an arrow right back at you. Might be just food for most. But for some people they are just as loved as the family dog.

Because in the time period the setting is imitating, chickens and livestock were just as important as people.

Not sure here, but it may be "how" you're killing the chicken. Me and my buddy have killed lots of chickens using fire spells or a sword with no reaction from the townspeople. However using a 'shout' or a bow for any reason in town will get the folk running every time!

Seriously, I don't think there's any reason to be going around killing chickens. If you came along and killed my chickens, I wouldn't just shoot you; I'd draw and quarter you.

If I had chickens and my neighbors saw you killing one of them I assure you the entire neighborhood would be after you. Better get out of dodge.

Well, in the medieval age, people would get their hands chopped off for killing animals in and around the villages without permission from their lord. So, I think Skyrim comes close to that and handles it well :P.

Try to use console to kill a chicken while nobody's near. After that wait for someone go check if the chicken is alive.

Yesterday I did it just for vengeance! I killed a chicken and had to pay fine! So.. I sworn to kill other chickens mercilessly.

So,

A woman saw the chicken was dead and said "Murderer!" or something like that. And flew from the village before a pack of wolves kill her. I decided start the game all from the beggining.

I would expect this behavior from guards in Hammerfell, but not in Skyrim.

seriously why don't they just go to the grocery store and buy eggs.

honestly, you aren't thinking of the time since you are used to modern convenience. If you kill a horse or cow expect to be killed. If you kill chicken for absolutely know reason and they rely on it's eggs and meat to survive they might also kill you and it's reasonable in the context.
