Will mutants be serving in the New California Republic?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 4:42 am

I was just thinking about this, during FO2, NCR had some supermutants (and ghouls but I only ever remembered seeing the supermuties) recruits in their army.

Heres to hoping New Vegas will continue that sense of racial diversity to continue to differentiate itself and the core region from the east coast and it's largely antagonistic humans and supermutants relationship.

Besides, how awesome would it be to see one of those big guys wearing a tiny lil red beret?

maybe as a member of the NCR rangers, but I doubt they would be found in the rank and file normal NCR troops.

I hope not, I hate mutants. Not because I think they're all stupid people eaters like FO3's, but because I just hate mutants.

You just hate them "just because" ?
Well that's a good reason to hate mutants.
You even hated the friendly ghouls in Underworld? If so, why?
You hated Harold? If so, why?
You hated Uncle Leo and Fawkes? If so, why?
You hated Desmond? If so, why?
You hated Pitt slaves and raiders? If so, why?
Oh, and by the way, you hate every single wastelander that is not a pure human? If so, why?

Imagine- you've pissed off the NCR so they send their rangers after you. You spot the glow of red eyes on the horizon. Good thing you didn't use PER as a dump Stat.
You ready your shotgun and duck behind a rock waiting for them to pass after you. When they draw near you pop out and blast them with your boom stick. That's two down. You switch to your hunting rifle and dispatch 2 more rangers with well placed headshots.

They may be badasses but they aren't impervious to .308,
You turn to survey the area and that's when you see him. He's been watching you this whole time. A huge green mutant with a tattered, undersized duster and glowing red nightvision goggles. He's holding a bright red minigun.

He just looks at you and laughs. He presses a button on his weapon and the barrels start to spin.

As long as their uniforms hardly fit at all, giving the impression that they were designed for human troops, then I'm all for it. :D

Or they could just wear their regular super mutant clothing but have a certain vest made especially for super mutants that has a Ranger/NCR logo on it.

Why not? A super mutant would be a really useful squadmate to have supporting you. They can wield otherwise crew-served weapons with no loss of mobility, just like guys in power armor. Can you imagine having HMG firepower in your LMG equivelent? If I were organizing the NCR army, I'd want as many super mutants as I could possibly get. So much so that I'd have them dig out Mariposa and start dipping people if I could swing it.

Not me, the main character I roleplay as. She hates all mutants and/or mutated things, she's wildly paranoid, but she's alive. I mean they're big and green, you'd probably be more than frightened of them if you were out in the Mojave Wastes. Personally I don't have a problem with the mutants, all of my other characters only kill them when they need to, it's just this one that's a purist.

That's not how it was in F2. NCR did not discriminate against mutants.

Maybe that's changed now, but I hope not.

Indeed, there were Supermutant members of the Rangers. Mutants are welcome as long as they're reformed:

Sounds great! How do I join the NCR?
All law-abiding and peaceful people, human or mutant, are eligible to become citizens of NCR. To become a citizen all you have to do is move to NCR and present your claim for immigration. After citizenship training and processing your application, you will be notified of your new status as a PC (Provisional Citizen). From there, it's only a short step to full citizenship!

Of course, NCR is not for everybody - slavers, unreformed mutants, known raiders, and other undesirables need not apply!

Thats not how it works (or it's how supposed to work anyway) on the west coast. Supermutants are functioning members of civilization in the core region after the fall of the Master.

There are plenty of sane muties living in NCR society coexisting and even serving with the NCR in FO2.

Racism will never be stamped out completely obviously but things were nowhere near as bad as they were in the capital where the supermutants are largely roid rage monsters controlled by their own instincts.

There are dangerous supermutants over there, yes, but thats just like you can find dangerous normal humans (raiders) everywhere aswell.

Same.It would be pretty cool to have a conversation with some kind mutants other than Lily or Marcus and ones that are part of some sort of military service.

I wonder if Caesars Legion has anything against mutants...
I mean, Super Mutants are almost walking tanks. They're true beasts.
Which army wouldn't want those hunks on their side?
