Will the 360 lag eventually?

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 9:07 am

As far as "saving" lag, I mitigate that by occasionally deleting the entire Skyrim game folder from my Xbox, then moving my backup saves folder of every hundred or so saves I keep on a Memory Unit. For example I have save 100, 200, 300, etc (or thereabouts) saved up to my current save on MU.

So now it seems we know why the PS3 version has lag in it (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1303536-new-vegas-developer-comments-on-ps3-lag-issues/), is it only a matter of time before memory issues hit the 360

So a little test:

Post your game time, file size and if you have lag or not.

Lets see if there is any common theme regarding lag, as ive read the odd topic saying there is lag on 360, but cant seem to find a consistant theme

Best way to get lag:

Play the College of Winterhold quests. Stick shock in each hand and on the quest: Hitting the books run in like a troll on moonsugar and all the mages, including those with you (and Lydia) shoot at it other, knocking stuff about. I made the mistake of fighting 4 spellcasters with the dude you meet and I casted a fire explosion spell (can't remember the name but the one that surrounds you in 20 ft of fire). It took me 3 minutes to turn around and run when I realised I was about to die. lol. Thats when Lydia blocked the door. And with the greatest look of contempt she mumbled.

"Get back in there you [censored]. Your not leaving till the jobs done." And so Ollathair the wise old breton with his crooked nose, startling blue eyes, beautiful grey beard and hair. Whom had took Lydia under his wing like loving farther. A man of love. Got smashed in the back by a fire ball that sent me smashing into Lydia's shield (which I gave her as a present). At which time she said:

"Hey, watch where you going!"

8 mb save file (just one) Auto save completely disabled. I do not leave objects lying around in random places at all as many people are claiming this is what causes the lag issues (i would like to say at this point that even if this were true, i am not happy that a feature of the game is breaking the game, if leaving objects lying around the world causes these sort of problems then why have this feature in the game? at least restrict it so when you hit your dropped item cap, the new items override the old ones you have dropped, actually what am i saying, this is, at the least shocking, there should be no way that players in any video game can break the game by just playing the game as intended and i don't like how some people on this forum are basically trying to tell me that it is my fault the game is lagging when all i do is play the game as intended). 58 Hours of game play in and i have experienced major lag in certain areas, this lag almost certainly results in my game and console completely freezing, i am not happy at all.

Permit me to add as much info as possible..

- 110 hrs
- Level 35
- 14mb save file..up to save #714(Yes I save a LOT)
- No lag
- AutoSave disabled
- Installed to HDD
- No texture issues
- Did NOT download 1.2
- I do not use carriages..fast travel only if I'm far away from objective
- I don't drop items in the world, just fill my chest in Breeze and sell the rest
- 360 Slim(got it when they launched a year ago)
- Game has locked up my 360 entirely on only 2 occasions, spawning in White Run after fast traveling
- I have dragon skeletons floating around everywhere, the College is a cemetery of skeletal dragons LOL

*Personally, this is heaven compared to Oblivion at the same early stages. I understand I am very very fortunate and I am pissed at Bethesda for their actions, but right now I'm in gaming heaven. If that changes, you'll be hearing from me! I doubt I'll download the next patch, I do NOT want this ruined!

File size: 9MB
Total Time: 80 hours
Character Level: 41
Hard Drive Install: Yes
Patch Version: 1.1
Lag: Yes I have experienced lag. The only way I've been able to get rid of the lag is to save the game, exit out of the game itself and then restart the game up from the 360 dashboard

The only issue I have is that it takes awhile to save and load because the game has to register all 100something individual saves when I open up the save/load menu. Career/profile saves were introduced half a decade ago, so how come Skyrim still uses such an archaic saving method?

I dont find anything wrong with the way skyrim does saves, if people really have hundreds of saves, thats really not needed, I have 7 and the 3 autosaves

Lvl 56
98+hrs

No lag apart from a few places (2-3 times, so very rare), but disappears when i quit and then load my game.
No more texture issues, but i've seen once a flying backwards dragon. In fact he was flying strangely at high speed, really bugged in the sky, and no way to kill him. This affects only one dragon from what i've seen in my game, always the same (east one, don't remember the place where he lives).

97 hours
992 save files
Save file size peaked at 9mb. Last several saves have dropped to 8mb.
No lag and no FPS drops.
I spent several game days exploring recently... In an attempt to find Red Eagle without quest markers. During this time my save file actually went down to 8mb (from 9mb).

10mb.. been playing for 196 hours.. Not that far into the main story though. Have never experienced any amounts of lag. Have had a few stutters here and there but standing still for a few seconds will clear it up. It usually happens if I've just been running for a long period without stopping.. it's kind of like the game just needs a few seconds to catch up and load the area.
I hardly do any fast traveling for some reason... I just like to run.

Surely the best way to find out whether it will or won't is to ask: did Fallout on Xbox lag at all?

Mine is around 9mb, and I've experienced some lag in areas. One area I did encounter major lag (so much so I had to reload an earlier save) was in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. No clue why but everytime I'm in there the game lags beyond crazy, making it near impossible to continue the questline.

Here check out this article - evidently, the problem is actually the with the PS3 architecture - specifically the way memory is allocated...

My save file is 7mb, I've played around 36 hours, and I have repeatedly have had brief lag near the entrance of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Additionally, Riften occasionally has brief frame-rate hiccups.

FYI - I'm still on the 1.1 patch, have an XBOX 360 S with the game installed to a USB flash drive, and have minimal texture problems.

I'm on 144 hours, with a savegame of 14 MB.. only sometimes I experience lag. Yesterday I got some rather annoying lag, but I just saved the game and loaded it directly after - lag was gone.
