Will the 360 lag eventually?

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 6:55 am

So now it seems we know why the PS3 version has lag in it (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1303536-new-vegas-developer-comments-on-ps3-lag-issues/), is it only a matter of time before memory issues hit the 360

So a little test:

Post your game time, file size and if you have lag or not.

Lets see if there is any common theme regarding lag, as ive read the odd topic saying there is lag on 360, but cant seem to find a consistant theme

Mine is 7MB, wife is 10MB, no lage issues, thing the difference is the memory 360 has over PS3. While the totals are the same graphics shares its memory which doesnt give much room when issues happen. That said unless you have thousands and thousands of objects floating around in the world, 360 shouldnt be that laggy.

Neither my wife or myself have experienced lag and we have over 100 hours logged so far

16 MB save here, the only difference I've noticed is with saving itself. It takes longer to save the game, but not longer to load it, and the actual loading screens themselves are still quick.

If there is a problem, it takes a long, long time to notice any detrimental effects on 360.

My current file with a lvl 38 is 110 hours in and 11mb.

No Lag...No bugs(I do have the resistance glitch from 1.2 though)...no freezing...No texture issues...No quest bugs (so far)...No backwards dragons(so far)

I would like to note that I make a habit of NOT moving too many objects around in this world...for example: I don't drop things out of my inventory and leave them strewn about on the ground....I don't leave things lying around in my houses...I only use separate storage containers for different categories of items....

I ABSOLUTELY do not fast travel all over the place (only use carriages between holds)

I think doing these things puts less stress on the engine and system.

The only lag I experience is locational. It depends if there is a lot of water animation( only in caves) or several npc's in one location. Sometimes it's laggy in certain caves where there's snow floating around.

Don't know the filesize and such from the top of my head.

But there's a difference between Skyrim and the Fallout games. In the Fallout games dungeons didn't reset, so your savefile needed to keep track of all the little changes you made in those dungeons for the rest of your game.

Not to forget all the crap laying around in Fallout 3. There were probably more tin cans that got moved around in Fallout 3 than there are items in total in Skyrim.

Never had lag issues on Fallout 3 and new Vegas, so I'm not to worried about Skyrim either.

If the Xbox 360 has roughly double the RAM that is easier for developers to handle then it is all together possible you may start seeing lag around 20mb+ files (doubling the PS3 lag sizes of 10mb). If what Josh Sawyer said (this being an engine problem), then nobody is really safe from it (PC users have problems with it, but it just CTD instead of lagging).

I've only had 2 instances of lag, a single hiccup in white run (spent the next 5 min running all over the town trying to create it), and in the fort dungeon where *SPOILERS?* they have that wolf fighting arena. I got a huge lag spike in one of the cells that was repeatable, but otherwise it was smooth. About 25 hours in, can't say the file size atm.

120 hours. Only experienced a drop in frame rate within certain dungeons. However, as I've progressed I've started to notice more and more a slow down in the menu pop-up even when it's not auto-saving.

Have 80 hours logged, and until the 1.2 patch it didn't lag at all. Now loading takes an insanely long time.

Yes, the 360 version will eventually have severe framerate issues and so will the PC version given that enough world changes are made to overload the amount of system memory available.

Actually, the PC version shows the problem by the game simply crashing. Our saving grace is the LAA patch, by increasing the amount of RAM the game can use, we bypass that engine flaw that is confirmed to be killing the PS3 and might be affecting the 360 to a lesser extent, as well.

But its a band-aid. Consoles don't get LAA, and they are the majority.

They designed it with 360 in mind. Plus the 360 can pull information off CDs faster than ps3 can bluray discs. No lag. Runs like a dream.

I'm not going to list time of play and so on as I've only experienced lag on very few occasions, around 5 times in all. What I would like to mention is one I can reproduce, ive experienced it twice in the same place with different characters on two starts, it's in the ice cave the talking dog takes you to to meet his master, the daedric god.

It happens in the room where the level is split into a lower section with an exit tunnel on the lower right from where you enter there are a few vampire mages in the room which the dog attacks, I don't know if it the magic spells which cause the lag but it is repeatable, freeze play freeze play until they're dead.
