And that's an entirely subjective question. Anyone who thinks they'll enjoy those other games more than ESO should buy them instead. Or buy ESO planning to see everything during the free month.

That's good for you. Yet, I'm sure it's not a matter of working or not working. I instead think it's a matter of wanting to make as much money as possible... which probably won't go as intended, based on previos similar experiences.
Again, that is ZOS making that decision. No offense, but they hire experts to decide this stuff, so I have more faith in them, then random posters.
ZOS is legitimately charging a sub fee. Period.
The only question each person has to find out for themselves is, is this worth it to me.
You have a point. I wouldn't trust a random poster either. I don't trust the stuff I see people commenting on IGN or some dude writing articles or whatever. I trust reality. Empirism tell us that if a phenomenon has happened many times the same way, it's most likely that next time the very same will happen. Big giants have fallen with the P2P model. I don't think that TESO will be any different.
Anyway, let's agree on disagreeing.
Sorry, I should not have said "ADD" crowd. I just find that in F2P games you have to do a lot of grinding to beat the curve and have a reasonable amount of in game money to do what you want. Eventually I become frustrated and feel like I have to buy things in F2P in order to be on the same playing field as others in the game and for me that really makes it less of a game and feels like more pressure to buy. If I subscribe to a game and don't play it a lot I simply cancel my subscription for a few months so the pressure is easily eliminated and by paying the subscription it eliminates the buy buy buy pressure and lets me enjoy the game.
XB1 is coming with DRM. Period.
Oh, wait....
Things change, and, as has been shown, can change VERY rapidly.
Kick up a big enough fuss, things change.
What you doubt or don't doubt has little impact on much, no offense. ZOS has laid down the plan. Hopefully ESO does well. I hope we can all agree on that.
No matter what you say or do, ZOS will have a legitimate payment plan. You won't change that.
If you think kicking up a fuss will make ZOS charge less money, so people won't have to pay them, will work. Well, good luck to you. LOL!
Don't worry. As a person who suffers that problem and knows that most of what is told about it is pure [censored] (that they only play Call of Duty and can't understand deep games and are the Blight upon the gaming industry and blah blah blah) I simply snapped.
I agree with you that F2P is not a good model. I tried The Lord of the Rings Online and found that it was no fun grinding to buy new content (actually, I'm pretty sure most people just got tired of it and began paying after some time, which makes F2P kind of tricky). But B2P... it looks like a perfect model to me, fair and quite profitable, aimed to everyone, not jus people able to play enough to make up for the fee.
Well I've been fishing around other forums and I think that it might behoove ZOS to reduce the subscription cost a little bit.
In this age of social media the economic think tank at ZOS must have known that there would be some sort of public outcry and that is why they announced the payment model so early so my bet is that they are going to collect data and revise the plan.
Some more rude posts have been deleted (please do send in a report if I've missed any.)
Also some off-topic discussion about... communism of all thing has been removed? So let's stay on topic please.
Polls mean nothing compared to actual research done by ZOS. They knew people not wanting to pay the full price would complain. I doubt this was any surprise to them.
and so is the 500 dollar game console, I absolutely amazes me the small portion of the community complaining about subscriptions, are buying a 500 dollar console then having to pay Microsoft monthly for nothing. At least Zos will be giving you additional content for your 15 bucks a month and timely fixes and balances. and the odd PC player complaining is going to buy it anyway there the same people that argue at mc donalds for a free meal because their frys were not hot enough.
/agree
On top of that, PC users have to pay for access to the internet as well, but you don't see them saying they should get a discount.
From what i have seen any companies "research" is worth nothing. Just look at all the critics reviews who get everything wrong about a game, or the companies who have done enough research to think "insert stupid idea" is the next best thing.
This game is going to have to be near perfect if it is actually going to keep its P2P status in the MMO environment. problem is, no MMO is ever Near perfect when it comes out. that means instead of content patches they will hopefully be fixing the bugs, which then lead to people complaining about lack of content.
It's a no brainer that they will lose sales because of this. Your asking people to drop full price just to play the game, instead of having a free trial period and then buying the game if you like it. What they could have done is F2P subscription where you play up to a certain point and then the game locks up until you pay the full price to unlock it, then you get the free 1st month and then it's 15. I think they could also get more sales if the price was 5-10 and not 15. I just don't like 15, it's way too high of a price when you see other games that are much cheaper. The 5-10 would really be a huge gain against other companies like WOW, hell you'd probably have people jump ship from WOW to ESO if that happened.
The market will dictate how this game will turn out and right now ESO is myspace and all the other good MMO's are facebook (WOW being the exception because it's WOW). Could it be reversed, yes but ZO needs to be absolutely perfect with this game if they expect it to have lasting power and not be a niche title. I don't know if they can, not with Skyrim like combat. Skyrim like combat works in that type of setting a single player game, I'm not sure if an MMO is the right transition but I could be completely wrong. Combat regardless is half the battle, if it svcks then it's really going to hurt the game badly.
Will ZOS lose sales with P2P?
I really think the answer is "no" because those who came to ESO with no intention to P2P never intended to do so. they are just now saying they changed their mind's about ESO due to the payment model announced, but I knew when ESO was announced that it would have some type of payment option available, as I'm sure all knew.
Just as an information point it should be noted that ZOS is not the only company who seems to think the subscription model is still a viable option. Both Final Fantasy IV (whose early access I believe begun today) and the upcoming Wildstar are both starting their lives as subscription based MMOS. I personally have no desire to play either one but it is interesting that others are still adopting a P2P strategy. ZOS is not completely out in left field by themselves with this decision.
ZOS will lose sales no matter what payment model they chose. They will gain sales based on payment model as well. - IE: I wasnt sure if I was going to waste my time if they chose any model other than P2P. I was 99% sure I was going to buy this game, now that it is P2P I am 100% sure I will buy.
