So what exactly was the point of this thread?

Anyone who says P2P means quality is kidding themselves. Look at pretty much every P2P game that has come out recently...check out my sig too for proof lol.
Well, Rift stayed in sub like 2 year and there was always players (I played it 15 month total so I know...) I expect this does ALOT better, because of IP. Besides, they can always go pure free if population goes so low and fill up the servers.
Aye, like Tomb Raider, It was an excellent 4 days of playing for that cost, great game and I definitely enjoyed it. With ESO im getting a month of great gameplay and extra month for 15 anytime I choose to. Fair deal I think, you wont get that with cheap games, by definition they cannot sustain content
The problem with that is they tend to go with the Freemium model once the P2P fails. You know, only 2 character slots, can't send mail, only 5 slots on the auction house, and all that other BS. At that point, either you sub anyway or you get a butchered half game unless you spend cash to unlock those things which would actually cost more than to sub.
Star Wars is a much bigger IP than TES. That's all I'll say.
Why its problem. Add content 2 year and then go pure free, it attracts a ton of attention.
MMO genre is full of fantasy people not Star Wars fans. Everyone knows this, we've been around since 90s. Fantasy MMOs just tend to pop up on frequent basis.
1. Make uber mmo game
2. Adapt the subscription price to world regions like everything else in the global economy works except cars, movies and gaming, let's see that happening for once shall we?
3. ???
4. Profit and a gaming company proves it's good at more than programing and graphics
ubisoft did that already for eastern europe
i am saying that i have yet to play a f2p or b2p game that came close to the best p2p games. do i expect every p2p game to be good? no that would be stupid. there is no absolutes
Hhm, take it like you want but even the big giant called WoW is Fantasy.
Im confident this stays in sub at least 1 year maybe two.
Many games last a long time without charging you just to play, you know, like the TES series. And if you want to talk about content updates, I'd say look at NO_Walking's sig.
There's also that cash shop that has to go. Now that we have a sub, having that cash shop would be like having to deal with on disc DLC.
IGN Continues the debate

Unlike people here are saying, does not seem like "Minority" to me
They're using the money of their publisher, which they'll have to pay back, which is why any game goes P2P, greedy publishers. More money for ZO =/= best game for us. Especially when the subs start going down...what happens then is the same thing that happens to every game that goes P2P now days, nothing good.
Brovanant is comeing out swinging!
What they will lose is access to tons of CUSTOMERS. Just because I dont want to pay 15 a month does not mean I'm not willing to spend 5-10, perhaps every couple months, to spend on various useless cash shop vanity items. What they lose is word of mouth distribution to basically free advertising. What they lose is the chance to tell the story of the wonderful world they have created and sharing it with a wider public.
And, well, I'm sure there are plenty of "Loyal" fans who want it F2P as well. Cause we are ALL "Freeloaders" and "Gamejumpers" amirite?
Yay a guy who gets it!
The only media they've been getting since the announcement is negative. This might not be a big deal to the super fans found on these forums, but it's a big deal for the games success.
They lost me, this is a game to ignore now and I am moving on to waiting for the next single player tes by bethesda.
I'm very glad that people in this thread are being more realistic about yet another P2P mmo. It's not a good sign, it's a terrible one. No matter how rose tinted awesome the Brovenant claim that this game is going to be, at the end of the day it's still just another fantasy MMO on a saturated market.
I would of been ok with the sub if it wasn't for the fact they are doing a cash shop too, that's content being pulled out of the game from subscribers, its not worth it. They should of had the sub or a cash shop not both, for the love of god not both v_v

It does not seem like IGN is supporting the decision, even though they can understand why it's being done. A nice way of saying "you're [consored] ZOS" to me
How about Old Night's link a couple posts up? Look on any of the major gaming media sites as well and they all are very sceptical about this decision.
Actually Total Biscuit in his last content patch made a positive comment on this decision, with some explanation behind it. Weather you like him or not, lots of people trust him on gaming matters.

It's certainly put me off slightly, not entirely though. The cost of the console, PSN subscription, TESO subscription, really, I could wait a year or two, buy the console cheaper, there'll probably be a limited edition model or a new iteration, then get the back-catalogue of cheaper single player games. Something like Elder Scrolls VI will probably become £25 and last me years.
Strangely for me I think it's mostly because the subscription fee is £9 rather than, say, £4. Now, there's not much in that at all, but it's just enough to mean coupled with PSN I'd be paying a little over £10 a month, which I don't seem to quite like? £120 a year could buy me a whole lot of other games.
I can afford it, and TESO does look truly incredible. I'll probably still get it, but whereas before I was very excited and planning to play for years, I'm now not so excited and may just play for a few months.
