worst Controller ever.. of all time!

Post » Sat Sep 14, 2013 2:17 pm

so, here I am sitting bored out of my mind, looking at my Game Collection room (formerly a walk-in closet), trying to decide on a game to play..

was gonna boot up my Dreamcast and play a bit of Skies of Arcadia, then over on the N64 shelf I saw an old copy of "Majoras Mask", and decided to try and speed run it...

So, head into another closet, and began sorting through the boxes to find my N64.. finally found it, plugged it in, turned on the game, only to find out the game is Unplayable due to how after time the N64 Joystick ceases to function....

Guess I won't be playing my N64 anytime soon :(

So, what do you think is/was "The Worst Controller ever... of all time!"

From my experience, the Wii remote is very confusing to use. Of course, I haven't used one mich, so it's just me.

The Original NES controller. Ironically, it was that controller that finally moved us away from a single button joystick like the Atari had, and allowed games to be more complicated and ushered in the modern age of console gaming. But, the thing was so small that my fingers, thumbs and hands cramped up after hours of play and the shape was not conducive to holding it in your hand.

So, it was revolutionary and fatally flawed at the same time.

The worst controller I ever personally held would probably be the N64. Who designed this thing? The anolog joystick is put smack dab in the middle of the panel, requiring that you stretch your thumb an absurd distance just to use it. You can try gripping the controller from the middle handle to alleviate that issue, but then all your fingers just get crunched tightly together. Plus, holding it that way make it impossible to use the left shoulder button. It's awkward no matter how you decide to hold it.

However, I would have to say that the Jaguar controller is probably the absolute worst. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/Atari_jaguar_controller.jpg It's large and unwieldy, the D-pad and face buttons are scrunched up at the top, and the keypad was just unnecessary.

Not sure... Could easily kill a grown man with a U64 Controller... Maybe a large teenager with a Jaguar Controller...

Maybe decapitate a person with the http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/09/ps3-boomerang-controller-tossed-doesnt-come-back/..

I love the N64 controller for nostalgic reasons, but damn is it a troublesome thing. Its design is weird, and the joystick gets worn out way too easily (especially if you own games like Mario Party). I think I have like 7-8 different N64 controllers because they're rendered useless after a couple of years, so I had to keep getting new ones. Ironically the controller that is in the best shape is the one that came with the N64 console we bought back in 1997. I still can't run with Link or any protagonist, so it's pretty much useless, though.

Mine's a toss up between the N64 controller (it wares out pretty quickly) and the Dreamcast controller (the thumbstick can break fairly easily) .

I didn't have too much trouble with the N64 controller myself, and I'd actually prefer its simplicity over the complexity of the other console controllers (which is one reason why I stopped playing consoles after the N64). I found the Xbox and Playstation controllers to be really similar to each other, and I didn't much like the Wii controller either when I played it at a relatives house.

What, it's one of my favorite controllers of all time; it's so comfortable and well designed. Might be because I've got tiny hands, though.

The old "Fatty" original XBox controller.

I had an off-brand N64 controller called the SuperPad 65 and it gave me a huge advantage over anyone using a regular N64 controller or any other off-brand N64 controller. The joystick had a better grip for the thumb, the 6 buttons were arch-arranged so that your thumb could travel in a more natural arch from end-to-end, and the shape itself had an advantage for grip because the Z-button was under the controller in just the right spot that rapid firing or hard squeezing wouldn't make the controller shift in your hand.

Of the ones that I've used, I'd say my least favorite is the Wii controller. I think it might be more me than the controller because it is so different than the others. TBH, I haven't used the Wii U or any of the 7 at the bottom part of the list.

One of my very favorite controllers was a Wavebird wireless controller that I used for the Game Cube.

My wrists would go numb using the original Xbox controller. The Gamecube's butterfly controller, though lacking buttons and oddly having octagonal anolog sticks, was the most comfortable controller for me and was the best to use with fighting games.

Ah I remember it well.

No matter how many times you played it before, the first ten minutes of Goldeneye or Perfect Dark were always "How the feck do I hold this thing?!".

I hate all the PS controls, they give me hand cramps from being too small and awkward for me.

I also do not miss N64 thumb, or those crappy rectangle Nintendo controls that were less ergonomic than the atari controls which were actually not bad.

My vote goes to the N64 controller, as it (to me) had the most flaws when it came to efficiency and basic use. You had to move your entire left hand over to 2 different positions to change from using the d pad and the joystick, the C buttons as compared to the double joystick was extremely flawed and clunky, and the joysticks on almost every N64 controller is shot and barely works, or just jiggles around and becomes much less sensitive over the years.

The WII controller with both parts kinda svcks, but if you think about it, it's basically like an xbox or PS controller but split apart and separated in the middle so you can move your hands and stuff, but if you held them both up to each other like a normal controller, they aren't much different then its current gen counter parts.

The PS Controllers always felt like they were about to break if I used any more grip on them. The Wii-chuck is [censored], and Why did the N64 have the 3 Prongs?
