Is it worth to start playing Oblivion after you played Skyri

Post » Sun Sep 09, 2012 8:28 pm

The leveling scaling and item system is worser than Skyrims, but other than then that. It's not a bad game, hell in ways it's better than Skyrim.

I'm not sure if anyone else has already suggested it, but make sure you buy the Game of the Year edition. It includes some of the extra DLC (I think Knights of the Nine and Shivering Islands). Have fun!!!

You should definitely give it a try. I recommend Morrowind too....that was my introduction to this series and it's a great game(though you will fall through the floor in Vivec city plenty of times)

If not for the base game, then at least for shivering Isles. What an amazing dlc.

Got it, just came back. It contains both DLC's you mentioned.
I think I am gonna be a Dunmer battlemage.

Well, good for you, but, now that I recall, Oblivion is almost nothing without the mods. So, your road to Nirvana still is a long way to go.

Welcome to Cyrodiil!
Battlemages are a good class to start out with - you get a taste of both magic and melee combat. Just remember that, in Oblivion, your spells are weaker if you wear armor. Illusion spells won't work if you're wearing armor, for example.

I'd suggest joining us in the Oblivion forum - its a friendly place, and you'll get some great tips. :)

Edit:

I don't think its possible for me to disagree more.
I play a very lightly modded Oblivion, but could easily play it in its 'vanilla' state. It's beautiful landscape, enjoyable quests, plethora of factions and dungeons take you quite a long way on that road. Not to mention what KotN and SI add.

Oh, I know. But I think I want to get used to the game first, before I get the awesome mods like Midas Magic.

I can live with that.
And okay, I'll come to the forum. Thanks for the tip. :)

Good, that's logical. Its hard to appreciate a mod completely without experiencing the vanilla experience.

Eeeeh, I don't know which class to pick for my Dunmer.

I do know that he/she won't be evil.
But I don't know if I want him/her to be acrobat, or battlemage.
Two completely different classes, but I really like the idea of an acrobat.

I'd suggest a Battlemage for your first playthrough. As I said, it gives you a taste of both melee and magic combat, and is a good class to use while you learn the mechanics and the lay of the land. Besides, once you feel like you know what you're doing, you could always switch to an acrobat character.

Good point, yeah I will just become a battlemage. Fits a Dunmer well to.

It's definitely worth it. It was my first and it's still beautiful and challenging. I'll be playing Oblivion again this winter. I'd advise getting it for the PC instead of the PS3. You can get some extra patches on PC. :tes:

I recently bought Oblivion maybe 2 months ago and 6 months after I bought skyrim
I played skyrim for the first 6 months and before we got skyrims Dawnguard I was kinda board of skyrim because I am a level 73 and I couldnt find much to do

I went to the store and saw a goty edition oblivion which contained the Knights of the nine dlc and the shivering isles expansion all for 20 bucks canadian

Needless to say I grabed it and thought to my self that it is basically a less technologicle version of skyrim
but After playing it for a while I started to feel like Oblivion was actually more full of content than skyrim is
and even seems at times to be better than skyrim

Absolutely! Oblivion is just as good as Skyrim, IMO, although for different reasons. I too started with Skyrim, but I've spend a few hundred - very enjoyable - hours in Cyrodiil since then. It's definitely worth a shot.
