Is it worth to start playing Oblivion after you played Skyri

Post » Mon Sep 10, 2012 1:21 am

I know a place where I can buy the game. I got skyrim for ps3, but I am quite curious about Oblivion. (And I can handle it on pc, so yay)

Absolutely! Oblivion is just as good as Skyrim, IMO, although for different reasons. I too started with Skyrim, but I've spend a few hundred - very enjoyable - hours in Cyrodiil since then. It's definitely worth a shot.

Worth it?

Yes.

I think the OP means Oblivion on the PC, not Skyrim.

I did not say that I could run Skyrim on pc. But my pc is able to handle Oblivion. My pc can't handle Skyrim it's graphics.

Definitely! I recommend you try the other TES games, too.

If I understood well, he said he can run Oblivion, but not Skyrim.

Yeah, it is.

... and Morrowind...

... and Daggerfall.

Possibly Arena, too, although I haven't played that one.

Yeah OP, you should play Oblivion, and this advice comes from someone who doesn't even like Oblivion.

It definately is.

"Oblivion" is the best RPG in the series to date.

It really lends itself well to roleplaying a variety of different character types, since you can go in any direction you want.

"Skyrim" seems a little over-written to me and forces a bit more on the player with the Dragonborn Questling and more so with the Civil War storyline.

"Oblivion" gives you a great sense of freedom whatever race or character type you're playing.

This doesn't take away from the greatness of "Morrowind" or "Skyrim".

"Oblivion" is definately an Elder Scrolls game that needs to be played.

What golden window of inopportunity is the PC that can run Oblivion well enough to be worth it, but not run Skyrim?

My PC is in the same boat.
Oblivion isn't very demanding at all anymore - I can run Oblivion on my three-year-old-not-built-for-gaming-laptop on near max settings, with mods. I have no hope of running Skyrim, though.

Oblivion is a great game. It has little things that are better done than in Skyrim for example Guild Rank (I really miss it in Skyrim) and with graphical mods you can have an experience compared to Skyrim's...but there is one litle thingy that personally bothers me - facial expressions of the NPC's and general skull mesh is horrible and sometimes really creepy.

I still don't comprehend this. 4-5 year old cards [8600m GT/9600m GT/HD 2600] can run Skyrim @ 720p better looking than the 360.

You don't need to "comprehend it" because it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

It is, but make sure you set it up right to save you from some serious headache. At the bare minimum you'll need the http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php if you are on a 64bit OS, the http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/23208 and the http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/5296.

Oh, and since I presume you're going to buy the GOTY edition you might want to clean the plugins with http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/11536.

OP, even if just inadvertently, introduced the whole topic with a statement that implied a fallacy. Sorry that I couldn't let that go.

Still, the tread needs something to be the combo breaker for the strings of yes that the question shall bring forth.

Oblivion is definitely worth a shot, I really enjoyed it when I played it. I know that quite a few people say it isn't what they expected, but I really like it. Why not try Morrowind as well at some point? :)

Just play.

One of the difficulties "Oblivion" had was that "Morrowind" gamers who loved "Morrowind" so much knew it like the back of their hand suddenly had the tables turnd on them.

"Oblivion" put them in a position where they didn't have the comfort of knowing what the "best" everything was.

So you play and discover it.

The game is designed to play the way it does on purpose so don't go panicking.

If you can play "Skyrim" you can play "Oblivion" no problem.

Many things will be different.

Enjoy the experience. That's what it's all about.

I loved Oblivion and think it's a better overall game than Skyrim. However, when I recently tried to re-play it I became bored very quickly :P

I suggest playing a couple of months games like snake, mario, LBP, or call of duty 4. Just to give oblivion as fresh a feel as possible. :)

"Oblivion" is the best RPG in the series to date.

I believe that crown(as many have noticed)goes to Daggerfall; Morrowind comes second(in terms of rpg/popularity). After these two, TES went downhill in terms of "hardcoe" rpg gameplay. Although, there's no question that Oblivion has a much, much better rpg gameplay than Skyrim.

Skyrim is great but Oblivion has its own charm same with Morrowind and other predecessors, at the moment i'm playing Oblivion more then Skyrim with a bit of daggerfall in the mix. Plus Oblivion plays more smoothly on the ps3 then skyrim does (at least for me) also play it on the pc it's so much better when you combine the vanilla game with mods.
