Wouldn't the pressure from the ocean give people major headaches? But if not, then it sounds like a cool idea.

Depends if there's equal counter pressure to nullify it, think of those old time diving suits seen here----> http://purplemotes.net/extras/diver.jpg .

Living in a dome the size of NYC would be a terrible idea. A tiny leak and the whole population is wiped out.

I'd consider living in a city made up of interconnected domes and tunnels which allowed for emergency quarantines in the event of a hull breach, but only if I got to be in charge of it.

Live there? No.

Visit for a few hours, like some kind of amusemant park/shopping mall tourist trip? .... maybe, but probably not. I'm more likely to watch videos of it on YouTube. :P

I would welt under the pressure of fearing the dome would welt under the pressure of the ocean. Naw, I wouldn't be comfortable living in a possible instant grave. I do know one thing though:

I'd be on that shut like white on rice and a paper plate and George W. Bush' hiney under the right circumstances. I read a book once where people ran out of room on land and started building undersea settlements. They could go back and forth at will, and everything turned out grand IIRC.

Or maybe they all died horribly....

If it was physically impossible for the city to leak and be destroyed, was secret from the rest of the world (a secret city), had internet, I could be genetically modified to have gills, could leave to go to the surface, I had a very luxurious house/apartment whatever, it was sufficiently lit, self-sustaining and was pretty big then yes. I would start a rebellion, become leader of the city and turn it in to its own nation. gradually expanding to build an underwater country and having separate cities all linked via automated submarines.

Well, since the project is "experimental" and "by the government," my default answer is hell no.

But since I don't know which government you mean, I'm assuming that it's the one that I live under.

I wouldn't be opposed to it if I were a soldier and it was a military operation. I'd volunteer. Or if it were a private corporation that I felt confident with. Or a competent government.

Yes, though that is a rather large settlement, I'd prefer one smaller.

It would depend on the context. As an experimental subject I'm inclined to say no, but otherwise, well, there are compelling and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOXBCLtj_OQ reasons I would be eager to agree.

If you're not swimming with the fishes, while going to your dome home that under the sea then no.

As a human, no.

I would live in the sea if I got to be a cool marine animal though.

If it was the government's experiment? no...

If it was the experiment of an insane independent scientist? Hell yes (especially if that insane person happens to be myself).

The key word there in your sentence is above. You gotta be under.

ha I see i'm not the only one concerned by his question.
The answer is no, I would rather die breathing my last breath of fresh air with sun on my face then survive under the sea in a dome
