Is it wrong to feel bad for the Falmer?

Post » Sat Aug 25, 2012 7:05 am

Seriously, I used to hate them, seeing them as 'WTF are these, Goblins?', then I started reading books on Falmer and Dwemer, and afterwards, all I can think is 'this poor race', and think Dwemer are [censored]s. :(

I get the feeling that when I get to their temple in the Forgotten Vale I'll want to resurrect the race , the temple looks so civilized !

It is sad what happened to them, but now they would gnaw off a leg of their cousin without feeling remorse. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q__ozbrEDh0

Their past is tragic, much like elements of the Forsworn, but in the end they're so far gone it's hard to feel sympathy for them when they're trying to chew on your face.

I feel bad for them. :ermm:
Seems that they were a very interesting civilization, pity that they've become what they are now.

I feel bad for them too. That does not stop me from slaughtering them by the wagon-loads. But I do feel sad for how they got to the sorry state they are now in. They are like abused children who grew up to be abusers themselves.

Another reason why I'm seeing Imperials as the lesser of two evils. The Nords pushed the Falmers out of their own land driving them underground only to be betrayed by the Dwemer. You can't blame the Falmer for what they've become. The only difference between the Nords and Falmers is the Nords weren't driven underground and at least had a chance to rebel by becoming Stormcloaks. The Falmer were phucked anyway you look at it.

That moment when you finish reading some book and you ask yourself; "Who are the bad guys?"

No, but it's too late for them. They are nothing but monsters now.

Ummm...no remorse at all. Bad leadeship and bad decisions. Did anybody feel bad for the orcs in LOTR.....I sure didn't.
And how do Falmer continue to procreate if there are no females?

Dawnguard doesn't count. They are no female falmers in Skyrim. Maybe they all go to some underground mall and shop all day.

Vendor: may I help you?

Ms. Falmer. Hissssssss....spits poison at vendor

Vendor: Ugh..arrrgghhhhhhh (and then drops to ground in poison induced catatonic state)

No female giants either ... but there are those rumors about the Mammoths...

I can't say I feel sorry for them as I have no idea what they were like before. Maybe they got exactly what they deserved. Maybe there was a good reason the Nords ran them underground. Maybe there was a good reason the Dwemer enslaved and changed them. The only thing we know now is that they are monsters.

Spoiler
However, the Snow Elf in Dawnguard seems to have hope for them and thinks they are getting smarter over time.

They turned one of those old Dwemer buildings into a coffee shop, they all hang in there, eating glowing mushroom cupcakes with their lapchauri.

I feel bad for what happened to the Falmer. I really enjoyed learning about them in books and such. When I first discovered them in Skyrim, I felt horrible for them, but it's kill or be killed.

They want to kill everyone up above. Women. Old folks. Little kids. People who did them no harm whatsoever. So yes, I kill them, and I sleep soundly afterward.

Exactly. It would be cool if some future expansion made it possible for them to revert back to snow elves somehow.

I often wonder about that myself were are the female falmer. I hope there are pockets of other snow elves some were. It's a shame that the one snow elf doesn't recognize if the player is an elf.

Well I don't think badly about the Dwemer.. Since people don't usually do something without a motive.. The Falmer I do feel bad for, but the blind falmer in the dwemer ruins must be eliminated.. Oh post above me, in Dawngaurd, I believe they added female falmer, they may be mages though.. Usually I kill them before they are able to attack me..

I feel bad for them in the sense that it's terrible what they've become, but let's not pretend that they were simply innocent victims after the whole Night of Tears thing. (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Pocket_Guide_to_the_Empire,_1st_Edition/Skyrim)

It's too bad things couldn't have had a more diplomatic ending, but the Falmer seemed set on eradication of the Nord/human race (who at the time were pretty much keeping to themselves) because of their own jealousy. Not cool.

The Forsworn are in a similar vein in terms of being reduced to violent savages, but at least it's more understandable as to why they're in the state they're in now. It doesn't justify their wanton violence, but it's more understandable.

Whatever compassion I felt for them pretty much evaporated when I found the leather farm in one of their ruins (a torture room with leather racks and a "heal wounds" scroll).
