So you can buy a coach, but does anyone actually use one?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:10 pm

So a coach is really just a much slower fast travel vessel. But in order to use it you have to select a destination from the driver and then hop on the back of the cart to activate the thing. All of which consumes time that could be spent just placing your cursor somewhere on the map and clicking on ok. When you arrive at your destination on the coach it is nowhere to be seen. So why would you even want to have one sitting motionless outside your house. Sorry but I'm not wasting cash on this I'd much rather have a useless cow that just wanders about its pen.

All the time. Not everyone abuses fast travel, some of us like to feel that we are still "in the world." I walk when I can't get a carriage. Unless I'm moving a bunch of crap between houses, then I speed things up a bit more.

Wow..... someone is a bit impatient :shakehead:. but like Boryn said its there for roleplay reasons. I personally will use the carriage alot on certain characters but not on others.

Does this coach teach you how to play sports?

Stupid joke, I know. Anyway, I've only used a carriage a few times. Like others have said, mostly for roleplay reasons. I prefer walking over carriages and horses.

I'm a fairly serious RPer, and I pretty much always use coaches when I can. If I can have one at my house, I expect I will.

Its meant for RP, not to replace the much quicker fast traveling from the map.

I take it, because it's a better mode of travel to cities without incurring the wrath of Vampire attacks, because they seem to happen with more frequency if you fast travel directly into cities.
Besides...I like to take my time. And Carriages have character.

Hearthfire as a whole is pretty much a gift for roleplayers.

It'd be a bit more taxing, but I'd more likely use the carriages if they had the option to view the ride, like RDR.
Otherwise, it really is just fast travel with an unnoticeable expense.

How can anyone abuse fast travel? You either use the in-game feature as it was intended to be used or you don't use it, surely? It's like saying i abuse destruction because i use it more often than the next guy and so on...

I love how some people seem to take the moral high ground when it comes to keeping things "realistic", whilst totally ignoring the fact, that how i and others play our games, in no way or form impacts on their own game world. Shooting sparks out your finger tips isn't realistic either, but you know what - Skyrim allows your toon/character to shoot sparks from his/her fingertips.

I like to fast travel when i am a powerful mage, and it is my teleport.. haha :P

Those who take every opportunity to bash any given feature in the game are usually those that lack the willpower to ignore it. I mean, if i really disliked fast travel and preferred to walk from A to B, then to C, I'll walk from A to B, then to C. Fast travel is a non issue if you ignore it and if someone wants to use it, it would make zero difference to how i play the game. In fact, i wouldn't even know how others play the game unless they came on here telling us how they play their game.

Doesn't make me a better gamer just because i choose to ignore fast travel and vice versa.

Can you catch a coach *to* your Hearthfire house? That would be great, as I tend to use coaches instead of fast travelling. I know the Falkreath house is only a small run from the coach drop-off point in Falkreath town, but it would be great to be dropped off at my house.

Roleplaying, some of us like to play this game like an RPG.

Fast travelling is just there for the lazy casual gamers who want action all the time, this just isn't the right game genre for them. Beth is catering more and more to these people, this is very clear with the level 75+ dragons in dawnguard.

The good thing about the game you can still play it how you want to play it. That's the beauty of optional features - they don't require any effort on your behalf. People should just get on with playing the game and worry less how others play their game if they have the option to bypass the "causal" features.

As for the 75+ dragons, that's another thing you can completely bypass. After all, it requires gamers to grind. Don't grind and they aren't an issue.

I've had this discussion before on another thread..

I don't care how people play the game, but it bugs me a little when Beth starts making content for them, moving away from proper quests and RPG content.

I'd use the carriage if it actually took you there like in red dead redemption. I used to enjoy just going for a ride on the train in that game as well as the stage coach. But if you don't actually use it in the game to travel in game then I just don't see the point of using it when its no different to using normal fast travel.

Like you said about others, maybe Skyrim isn't the game for you? Don't see why you think yourself more deserving than others. If you don't like how a game has evolved, then surely it's time to move onto something that does meet your needs? After all, there's games out there that do have proper quests and RPG content.

The game isn't so different from Oblivion, so it wasn't like Beth just suddenly mixed everything up. You basically knew what you were buying into.
