You can not re-roll your character....

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 11:17 pm

The lighting in the Oblivion CC screen svcked, so I expect they did a better job this time.
Not really a spoiler: but just to be safe.
Spoiler
Well, this time around you're in an exterior when you create your character, so lighting is better. And yes, I've seen the beginning of the game. It's on youtube.

I never wanted to reedit my char in Oblivion, not even in FO3 and FONV, so that's not the problem at all, it's roleplay after all.

Not a problem for me, but then again I'm probably the only person who actually enjoyed playing the Oblivion tutorial dungeon.

I enjoyed it too, I loved it every time I crawled through.
It is possible to do it in many different ways.

That's a shame. I liked being able to skip the tutorials. Maybe the one in Skyrim is entertaining enough that it won't matter.

Like Pete said, make your character the way you want and there shouldn't be any problems. I always take the time and make sure before I confirm the creation of my characters (plus, I've never made use of the re-tweak feature in my previous experiences with Bethesda games, why start now?)

Also, in reference to the leaked introductory section of Skyrim, the character creation takes place with in-game daytime lighting. It looked like it might be hard to discern what eye color you're confirming for your characters (I want green eyes on my character, like I have in RL). Although, I'd venture to say it's because of the awful quality of the leaked video footage that eye color wasn't easily differentiated.

Well no attributes or classes or birthsigns, so really all you pick is six and race anyway. I can see why they did it I guess.

What would be the point? All you're resetting is the face.

No, there are no branching paths in the OB tutorial.

There is however a branching path in the Skyrim beginning (who do you follow). I can assume they didn't want people to do the classic "save at exit" because that would also fix who they followed out of town.

Well, I know as many times as I restart, I'll be doing the beginning of Skyrim a hundred times.

How is that so surprising? You don't pick anything with your class so there is no reason to make it so you can.

Then, I hope the intro and tutorial dungeon can be skipped. Too boring to play them again and again each time!

Only thing there IS to change is how you look and what race you are. The other vital stuff you had to choose in the beginning of Ob and Fo3 aren't in Skyrim and thus, the need to "re-roll" your charcater is nearly 0.

That's fine. The lighting in the beginning is said to be better and more accurate as to what it will look like in the outside world, unlike Oblivion which used odd lighting. You don't need to worry about skills as they all attribute to leveling. The only thing you can't do is respec your perks.

Why would you need to? You aren't doing anything but changing how your character looks. Since there are no classes, attributes or birth signs you just play how you want. There is no need to change later.

I was a little upset at first but you make a good point. One thing is that we have to play the tutorial with every character which is fine by me.

I wouldn't say this is a huge problem or something to scream about but it's annoying. I guess one good thing about this is that if you screw up how your character's look you can immediately go back into creation, although that's assuming that Beth doesn't delay the start of character creation because of some excecution in game cutscene type thing. This means that you will have to do the tutorial but I guess with increased leveling rate and certain choices that could be made, they scraqed it. Still it's the worst news I've heard so far and that's saying something because I like the majority if not all the stuff about Skyrim.

I've no reason to believe that we won't be able to skip cutscenes anymore. (Haha execution cutscene... :P)

Edit: Btw., I was surprised to see that people actually used this. Everytime Oblivion asked me if I wanted to change something after all that sewers business, I was like "What? Why? This is me! I've been playing for hours* already why would I change..." ;-)

* hours because I do take my time in character creation ;-)

Let me reveal how great it is in the form of a weatherman:

More than that, your nose too.
Your hair.
Your face.
Your eyes, cheekbones, chin, jaw, skin tone, etc.

It is disappointing to have to go through the tutorial for each character I make. I make a lot of characters, and Oblivion's reset option at the end of the tutorial made it much easier. Having to go through the tutorial for each character is going to get tedious.

well considering how you don't pick a class and birthsign it is basically whether or not you want to play a particular race. Really isn't a big deal. How many people aren't set with what they want before they leave creation anyway?

Well, as some have mentioned. Many people have a save right at the exit to the oblivion tutorial. Want to make a new character? Just load that and skip the tutorial. Now they will have to re-do the start zone for each character... something many might find boring and tedious.

My reason for asking was after creating my player in FO:3... once i reached advlt hood in the vault my character looked different because of the poor lighting during creation. It has been pointed out that creation is now done in a very well lit area, which will most likely help a lot.
