You can Preload skyrim now if you got it from d2d

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:34 pm

STEAM forums are still down from the hack attack I hope that's not delaying preloading. Big release takes some people 2+ days to download.

you guys got a key from D2D, plugged it into steam, and are now downloading the game?

or are you downloading something from D2D directly?
Downloading it directly via the DL Manager.
I also have my key ready to activate it when the time comes.:)

Everyone feels burned, that is, unless you're a console player that lives in the Netherlands.

It says release Nov 10th at 9:01 pm PST, that's Thursday at 6:01 pm in the east.

Unfortunately, for me at least, you are wrong. Thursday 9:01 pm PST is Friday 12:01 AM EST (in the east coast of USA)

BWAHAHAHAHA DOWNLOADING NOW F STEAM.

p.s. it was 7 bucks cheaper, but taxed, so it was only like a buck and a half cheaper.

If you had read the thread you would know that you can pre-load on Steam as well. And it's 7 dollars cheaper to give incentive to buy a product from a company that provides an inferior service. :) but congratz, I guess.

Anyone with Skyrim on D2D able to confirm they can preload?

Not that it matters really.

CONFIRMED

Good for you!

120kb/s and I will be done in 13 hours, 53 minutes and 24 seconds!

You can activate your copy, but I bleieve we still have to activate it through steam to actually play it so, (at risk of raining on your parade,) I dont think you will be
able to play it yet, not untill actual release. same happened with Mass Effect 2. I was able to download it, and install it, but NOT able to play untill actual release.

Oh this should be good. Please describe exactly how D2D provides an inferior service. And FYI, I've bought 27 games from D2D in the past 18 months and 17 from Steam. I know exactly what it is like to do business with both of them.

So come on and back up your claim.

NEVERMIND: http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/message/1262360151633169338/?l=english

Really? You could cancel your Steam preorder by opening a ticket (so long as that ticket is made before the release date) and request a refund to your bank account and not to your Steam Wallet. Funds added to a bank account takes a few days to post normally, then after or before that just buy it off of D2D if you're impatient.

It makes me a little anxious, but not that bad, pre load means you get most of the files in an encrypted for to save time, people who bought the game off D2D, or from a store don't get to play any earlier than people who ordered from Steam.
It takes me less than an hour and 30 minutes to download the ~6 GBs, I know some people have slower internet but even 24 hours should be enough time and all, Pete Hines did say there will be a pre load. It'd be stupid for Steam to not offer a pre load when their competition offers it. Just try to be patient, I know most of us are starting to lose it (myself included).

Also despite what the D2D page may say their "version" of Skyrim is the same as all others and adheres to Steam's unlock time.

Really want to start this sooner rather than later so I know it will be done. Im on a 3rd floor where my router is on the first so my connection is just a tiny bit impaired not much but def slower. We don't need to get all up in arms about this whole pre-load business however, I'm sure we will all blow our preloads when the game loads for the first time :shifty:

Update:

Once you download it, Steam will NOT let you do the actual Install.

You can activate your code, but installing it is on hold it seems.

Jesus man, you got some sort of relay where people run from your digital store to you with 3.5 diskettes until you got all the data? -that was the funny picture in my head when I read your post-

It doesn't really provide an inferior service, but Bethesda games (Fallout, Oblivion) have been known to have Mod issues with the D2D version of the games, something to do with the script extender not working with them, which would preclude people from a lot of the great mods coming for Skyrim, that's the only possible issue i can see with the D2D version.

As for which version begins downloading first, it's a rather Juvenile and irrelevant argument, as both will most likely be ready for launch regardless.

If Steam isn't starting the preload close completely out and restart it. When I did that preload popped up straightaway.

Neither of those titles are steamworks. the reason there is an issue is because the native d2d executable for their games is encrypted, which causes problems with mods.

that wont be an issue here, because there is no "d2d version" perse, they are reselling a key for a steamworks product. weather its steam, store bought, d2d, or any other retailer, the installed game will appear and function the exact same.

My download is complete. I used D2D Download Manager. However, we can not "Install" the game yet via Steam which is where we all have to go thru to Install/Play it. :)
