Really? You could cancel your Steam preorder by opening a ticket (so long as that ticket is made before the release date) and request a refund to your bank account and not to your Steam Wallet. Funds added to a bank account takes a few days to post normally, then after or before that just buy it off of D2D if you're impatient.
It makes me a little anxious, but not that bad, pre load means you get most of the files in an encrypted for to save time, people who bought the game off D2D, or from a store don't get to play any earlier than people who ordered from Steam. It takes me less than an hour and 30 minutes to download the ~6 GBs, I know some people have slower internet but even 24 hours should be enough time and all, Pete Hines did say there will be a pre load. It'd be stupid for Steam to not offer a pre load when their competition offers it. Just try to be patient, I know most of us are starting to lose it (myself included).
Also despite what the D2D page may say their "version" of Skyrim is the same as all others and adheres to Steam's unlock time.
It says release Nov 10th at 9:01 pm PST, that's Thursday at 6:01 pm in the east.
You've got that reversed. 9:01 PST is one minute past midnight EST. The idea is that all US Steam users unlock at the same time, rather than as 12:01 rolls around to each timezone like would happen normally.
I am going to buy digitally from either Gamestop or Bestbuy because I have Giftcards to both. Does anyone know if they will send out the keys in time for the Steam preload tonight?

Nope, that is to say you can mod it like any other PC version of Skyrim. There is NO difference in the PC versions of Skyrim no matter where you got it from.
