So you cant spare people, even if theyre begging for mercy

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:18 pm

Tried it a lot of times.

Theres three possible outcomes, if theyre cowering:

1. they stand up after a while and attack you again
2. they just die
3. they live, stand up, walk around for a bit and die without player input

Especially the last outcome suggests that this game was made with a LOL I KILL EVERYTHING character in mind

Yep. Just like every other Elder Scrolls game. It's nothing new.

I've got to say that the first time I heard an enemy start begging for their life it ticked me off and I made it my duty to end them via a shield bashing.

Not actually, no. I had an option not to kill a dealer.
(but I agree, they didnt have the enemies beg for mercy though)

Hehe same. This thief on the road to Whiterun begged for mercy after I hit him a few times. Then i thought, "Just a few seconds ago you wanted to kill me and take my gold.... lets see am I in the mood for mercy?..... NOPE. (kill)"

Well, thats enough posting for now, have to get back to the game :D

Uhhh... I can spare people. Once, somebody ran away and put there hands above there head as if they were asking to be spared, I still killed him though, even if he wasn't going to attack me later. I waited a good minute or so before doing it though.

It seems linked to their health. When their health drops, they'll beg. When they heal a little they go hostile. This includes natural health regeneration.

It means that higher level enemies with more health may actually beg for longer. Noticed this bit on a Forsworn Briarwhatever last night. He begged for his life for a good 10 seconds before finally going back to trying to kill me.

OP were you using axe bleeding damage perk? I was under the impression that they could get up and run away.

I actually got angry the first time I heard the mercy request. I was in a necromancer den in a room full of mutilated bodies and this sicko had attacked me on sight and then had the audacity to ask for mercy? I just wished I could curb stomp like the giants do.

This seems mostly put in as a way for NPCs to "drop aggro", so you don't simply lose companions to death. 'Cept for that first one when I stumbled across those trolls... in the outside world you can leave the area and they typically don't chase. In dungeons, though... Go for the eyes, Boo!

Is funny.... first time I heard it, I was a bit stunned... sort just hovered over him looking at him thinking, "Seriously?! You tried to ambush me, and kill me.... and now you're begging for mercy?!"
Figured I would spare him to see what would happen (gold payback or something?) then he started to come after me again! One shotted him with an elvish arrow.... took his loot, his clothes, and got my arrow back... and left him naked to rot. HE HE HE.... gotta love this game!

Seriously! The first time a NPC begged fo rmercy, I actually tried to grant it. Then they double crossed me. I spent a couple combats trying to figure out if there was a way to accept this plea. I gave up. Now I just mow them down. On a side note, I tried to give up to some guards for a minor infraction. They would not accept my pleas either!

My favorite is when the scream for help after being attacked by a wild animal, then they turn around and attack you, then they beg for mercy.

You can avoid this whole situation by leveling lightning perks and disintegrating them.

Everyone so far keeps attacking me either after a short moment or as soon as I put my weapon/spells away. I would love to grant mercy to everyone, but they beg for it, then try to kill me. Useless feature, they could've just as well not implement it as it makes no difference other than ther short running away moment makes it annoying to aim at them.

I've only had one NPC beg.

I was jumped by a "vampire" and a "vampire thrall", I initially wondered if the thrall might've been mind controlled so I killed the vampire first; but the thrall carried on attacking, when I beat her to an inch of her life, she started crawling away and begging not to be killed. I saved at that point out of curiosity.

Initially she attacked me after a bit, but I may've accidentlly hit her again.

After reloading, she just stood up and started acting nonchalant - I could speak to her and she'd just speak a one liner greeting.

It would be good if Bethesda would patch in a chance they would go neutral towards you if you granted them to live. The only thing is if they are a bandit that will attack you again if they see you another time. So you will end up killing them anyway. It's not like one of them will become your buddy and the next time you come across a bandit outpost 7 of 8 will attack you because you allowed one of them to live the prior day. And there always needs to be the chance they will beg for their life and try to kill you anyway. That is human nature. That is mechanical nature too. That is how Megatron offed Optimus Prime. lulz.

Yep. Just like every other Elder Scrolls game. It's nothing new.

And even if it did work as intended this time i would not spare any one. If a creature/NPC attacks me, then either they die or my character. When they want to live then they should not attack me. :D

Sounds like a bug in the AI. When an enemy begs for mercy they should not go agro when they regenerate. Probably nothing we can do about it if it is coded in the AI. I would like to see this fixed as I play several characters who would be inclined to accept the yield.

I tried the only time I saw it. They were beggin and I tried to talk to them. Then Lydia came around the corner and cleaved the poor sod with her dwarven battleaxe of frost. Oh well.

I'm hoping for a mod eventually to flesh out this new begging mechanic. It would be cool to have the ability to actually spare people and have them just surrender. The way it is now is practically useless, they will get up an attack you anyways.

In Oblivion I had a mod that allowed you to demand surrender from enemies and have them become non-hostile if you accept, giving you fame points and an opportunity to extort coin from them in exchange for the surrender. It worked really well with my merciful Paladin of Stendarr.

Does anyone know what happens if a formerly neutral npc that you attacked begs for mercy?

Maybe they don't attack after healing?

But ya, I would like a way for me to grant a non-death type mercy for some that are even hostile, depending on what they are.

Give you all their money? All their stuff? Become your new companion? Call guards for their arrest if in a city? Go neutral (and give up a life of crime and pledge to help little old ladies cross the street?).

Go form a new town with all the other people you spare where you'll be declared Captain Awesome, and they'll compare how long they were able to fight you before they had to surrender to you as bragging rights?

Ha Ha! Actually have a flip side to this one... had a Saber Cat start chasing me while I was on a horse. Started to outrun him.... passed some NPCs on the way and one said, "I'm not getting involved."
