If you cared that much Valerica...

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:50 pm

Then try to save your daughter, you're doubtful of the dragonborn/serana plan to kill harkon... Yet you hide away? Let your daughter who you care about so much about go to her death?

She also has the blood needed to block out the sun, but she let her daughter go and fight Harkon. She could sacrifice herself to save her daughter, this may not be good news for you but Harkon wouldn't kill Serana if he has the blood already.

She believes that if Harkon is successful with his plan, people would come from all of Tamriel to kill the vampires, it would surely be their doom. So instead of joining Serana to stop Harkon she looks out for herself and hides in the Soul Cairn, making Serana the only option for blood. Selfish.

Thoughts on this?

She is a selfish mother, indeed. Being a vampire, a pureblood, no less, she is bound to be selfish and manipulative, placing herself before others.

It was inevitable, he would kill you and sacrifice Serana, Valerica was right about that as he even says it himself.

This should be in the spoiler section, mods could you move it please?
Did he? I don't remember that.
Spoiler
I do remember confronting Harkon with Serana, and him commenting on my ambition out-growing my loyalty to him.
But that's all I remember.

I think it's only when you give him the bow on the dawnguard side, but it might be the same for the vamp questline when giving him the bow.

The clue is the fact that she was part of her daughter being subjected to Molag Bal in the first place, both parents were selfish scumbags as far as I am concerned.

At least Harkon isn't full of [censored], she keeps on saying how much Serana means to her and how everything she did is for her.

Yeah and then harkon will still try and kill you. Its standard overlord and underling tactics if your underling starts to become very powerful very quickly then you take care of them since they are a threat to your power.

I would have preferred the option to play along with Harkon, be the servile minion who knows that the moment his usefulness expires or power grows too great his master will try to kill him, waiting until he's accomplished everything I need him to and then knifing him in the back. I'm still pissed that we didn't get to kill the sun as promised.

And why is there no option not to be Serana's friend? No, I don't want your help! I don't need your help! I want to sacrifice you to bring in an age of eternal night, dammit!

Yeah but harkon wants to off you as soon as you have the bow so it won't matter. Plus there is no way to be as you describe cause even serana notices that your power is growing rapidly and she can't manipulate a wet noodle considering the stuff that happens to her in dawnguard. Harkon has been around for thousands of years and I don't think he would take chances with someone who is becoming almost as strong as he is in such a short time.

As a dark elf/chaos warhammer faction lover there lore book taught me if you have a position of power in a cut throat political system(like harkons court) you off those who are powerful even if they have no thoughts of betraying you since there is always of a chance of them trying to grab your position.

To me what Harkon does makes sense.

Of course Harkon's motives are understandable. But my character wasn't finished with him yet. We wanted to darken the skies and bring in the age of night. I'm more inclined to believe Harkon than Valerica: if there were no sun, people might pay more attention to vampires, but there would be nothing they could do about it.

Really? Considering how the clans war with each other and hate each lets not forget the clan in fighting I doubt they would stand a chance against the human forces if they decide to wipe out the vampires.

The sun is an advantage and a curse for vampires.

Eh, you're listening to what Valerica wanted to believe. There's no guarantee there'd even be a war. Vampires are masters of subtlety and prefer to strike when least expected. Mortals might be more wary, but still easily overpowered. Much more easily, now that the sun isn't a factor. In any case, the feuds of minor clans would be as irrelevant as they are now. If there was a war the major powers would group together and establish treaties and pacts. And even if they didn't, there would be plenty of independent agents who would be clever enough to take advantage of the situation. My character included.

I don't believe Valerica she is correct.

The clans really hate each other and the way harkon is talking he wants to go to war with the humans. The vampire clans will not work together, plus not all the vampire clans are masters of subtlety thats more of the cyrodil clan thing and volkihar are not really all that good at infiltrating and when they do they have to use magic and the people in the jarl of solitude court know that sybille is a vampire. Plus the feral vampires driven insane by blood lust will slaughter and drink the blood of humans lowering the food for vampires if the sun is blotted out permanently.

Plus vampires are weaker the higher their generation is and if there are more vampires that puts a bigger strain on the food source the volkihar even give quests where you kill vampires that are trying to turn a said group of people into vampires or if a group of vampires are overfeeding. Lets not forget the vampire disease can spread quite easily since it can be given to people by accident if you enter combat with a vampire.

If the sun is blotted out permanently vampires will be annihilated or if they win they will kill of their food source(feral vampires and clan/in clan competition for human cattle). Blocking out the sun permanently is stupid imo.

"Minor clans" is an understatement. If the sun is blocked out, the entire world will be plunged into chaos. We're not just talking about Tamriel here.

Who knows what Akaviri invaders might do when they discover the sun has been blotted out. If Harkon suceeded in turning day into eternal night, he is going to have more enemies than allies. While many vampires would prefer the darkness, many others from the provinces share the same perspective like Valerica. It is funny since the first thought my character would of had was that if Harkon blocked out the sun, the world would be turned into an apocalypse by war.

In all honesty, the Volkihar would deal with the Order Vampyrum, who conquered Cyrodiil in their own subtle way(by conuered, I mean against other clans), they would have to deal with potential armies rising to fight them off like the Empire and the Stormcloak rebellion, not counting the Thalmor and their plot to destroy the world, which in this case, might be in their favor. And the rogue dragons who fly around the skies. In no time, Tamriel would be ruins and ashes.

Come to think of it, I bet Coldharbour is what Tamriel would of looked if Harkon succeeded.

Exactly if the sun is blotted out permanently there would be nothing left to rule since the world would be plunged into chaos.

Molag bal gave vampires buff to their illusion for a reason.

Plus I don't think many of the other clans would appreciate the sun being blotted out permanently since then humans would be on alert for vampires and in cyrodil most likely there would be checking everyone in the cities and villages for vampirism. Plus there would be vampire witch hunts everywhere, heck I even think some of the vampires in Harkon's court think blotting out the sun permanently is a bad idea but they are bound to follow the lord of the court so they have to do what Harkon says.

You underestimate the tenacity of mortality. The stars would remain and the chaos would settle.

And again, you presume that everyone else thinks the same way as Valerica. She was determined to find fault in her husbands plans. She is a decidedly biased individual who undoubtedly actively sought out a reason to decry his goal.
