You guys better release it on Steam

Post » Tue Aug 17, 2010 6:15 am

It would be excellent if the game were available on Steam. I see nothing wrong with that. In fact, I support it.
However, there could be issues if the game were integrated with Steam like MW2, CS:S, etc.
VAC is completely useless. I'm not saying that if Crysis 2 were integrated with Steam it would fail, I'm just saying that there's a possibility.

The games I have on Steam are Psychonauts, Deus Ex and TF2. I play all of my other games through Steam, so I get the overlay and can use the web without alt-tabbing, chat, etc,

Ummm, seriously, no offence but why can't you just buy the disk version? I mean unless you are underaged or I don't know, you really woulnd't buy a game you want to have just because it's not on steam?
I for one won't buy the disk version because it can get scratched or broken, and if your going to reply to me....just be careful with it...or something like that. I have a 2 year old nephew do you? he likes dvd's way too much. you get my point?
personally I enjoy steam and they have alot of sales...I got l4d2 for 6$!!!! :D
Carefully replying ;) Although I'm not yet a father as you are I have a wonderful goddaughter who makes a habit of carving extra little holes in her Disney DVDs so yeah, I get what you mean! :)

My point was that assuming the majority of the people writing on this forum 4 month before the release are some sort of fans or at least waiting for this game to come out would most likely buy it at some point and it wouldn't stop them anyway from doing so if the game didn't come out in some sort of digital distribution form. I feel sorry for you if you are really going to miss out on this game unless it comes out on steam, that just svcks.

just generaly blarging going on really black_angel. I like how some gamers seriously think this game won't come out on steam though. It's the biggest gaming platform, not just on PC but in the world.

Seriously? Blarging? What does that mean pls. :) ?
And still, I would choose steam for a number of reasons. Which are kind of hard to explain, but will be revealed shortly. Mainly bec. they're supported and they are one of the types of software that haven't let me down at all.

hmm, blarging, it's not really a standard word to be honest. But i meant it as none aggresive trolling, since both guys just have opinions and are trying to convince the other guy they are correct when BOTH see the disadvantages and advantages and have quite made up their mind! :D

In the end, the digital guy will be right because discs will be gone within the decade.

So than I guess I would like to blarge with you as well or something like that. :D
First of all there's no way we can be sure which one of us is going to be right on the topic right now so I simply want to mention some reasonable things here against what you just said. :)

I don't think disks will be gone within 10 years because first of all downloadable only games would exclude all the potential buyers who don't have an internet or a fast enough one and I know it's the 21th century and all but yeah, there are still and there are going to be as well people like that.

Plus with games being downloadable only I think we could assume the same fate to happen for movies and music as well. The question is can you imagine making every retailers selling only these products and rentals go bankrupt all around the world within 10 years because of disk versions not being produced?

And there's the fact that there are people who actually like to hold/collect DVDs instead of just having the stuff on their computers/consoles/iphones and so on. After these kind of people including me die out, yeah, sure why not or even before like in the next 20-30 years I can imagine not having disks but within 10 I don't think so. :)

Check this out on the topic: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/episode-117-pach-attack/100359
and take into consideration that he's talking about the situation in the US.

Btw I'm not at all against steam or anything, since they have great deals, it's easier to buy and download stuff there instead of going out to the nearest shop (takes me 10 long minutes :D) and so on, I just like having disks better it's as simple as that. :)

hehe, yay for blarging :D

I know there are definitely some good reasons fo keeping disc's ect. and i'm definitely not against them either! (i generally just buy a game where it's cheapest). However i think the PC platform especially will move onto fully digital distributed products within a fairly small time period. The release of f1 2010 purely on digital distribution (apart from pre-orders, weirdly) was a bit of an indication.

I hope for the sake of those without the internet (but let's face it, by the time you can't buy discs anymore the only people without internet will be those who really shouldn't be contemplating any form of video gaming, as they obviously have other things they need to do with the money first) there is always some alternative, but i can definitely see discs disappearing for the most part in the PC market, they already only form a tiny proportion of sales it seems.

After all, one of the reasons console noobs (note, this is not a dig at console players, but console noobs, you know the ones, the guys you mute instantly) get a chubby is seeing things like 'zomg, lulz PC haz 5% sales of blackops!' without realising that it's only about 10-20% of the PC sales! I just found it funny that the apparent number of day one PC blackops sales (about 40,000 if you believe the stats) was about half of those playing multiplayer at any point that day!

(Have not read anything else than the first post)
Steam is expensive >.>
I have started to stop using Steam now. Every game on Steam is either the same price as in the store or they cost more. (Specially new ones costs more)
So for me Steam can die :P
As long as they send me a copy of the games a allready have on Steam ofcourse

lol, it's easier and more convenient unless you're using hacks like no-cd stuff which is technically illegal :P

Or unless the other guy has a horrible internet ofc :D

Still, it's besides the point, the best thing about steam is steam slaes like the one on right now.
