Do you think Skyrim will be delayed?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:02 am

Games like this (masterpieces) are commonly delayed, and for good reason. We don't want a rushed game. But that being said I think I'm not alone in saying that a delay would svck big time. And I wonder if they won't want to miss an iconic date like 11.11.11

Personally I think the reason they waited so long to announce it was so they wouldn't have to announce it early then delay it. And remember that Pete said like 6 months (or more?) ago that there's a lot of game to show already. And they still have almost another year.

But this is a huge game and anything can happen.

So I vote yes, but sincerely hope it doesn't get delayed.

Better to assume its going to be delayed....but...it was announced on the 11th and set for 11 11 11 which was exactly 11 months from that time.

Oh, hell yes. And I hope it is. I'd rather see it delayed than released prematurely to match an overly cocksure release date.

Besides, I've made bets with my friends that we won't see this game until 2012. I'm pretty sure I'll be right about this one.

I voted for YES, because I have weird feeling that it will be delayed.
As I recall 1yr ago Todd Howard told that they are not working on TES 5.

Anyway i hope it will be on time or sooner :D

I believe it is to early to tell, and hate to sound mean, but many threads like this exist and you will probably get the same answers as them. I really don't mean to offend you or anything. Just try to find another thread like this before posting. Most will just say it is far to early to tell or yes. And the people who say yes really don't know, because we have no idea where Bethesda is at with it. They could be 90 some odd percent done and just working out bugs for all we know. Just saying post this thread in four to nine months and for now use the ones that are already here.

Sadly, I have a feeling it will be pushed back until Early 2012, but honestly I won't care too much as long as it isn't rushed.

Yup.

I would rather they do instead of releasing the game in an incredibly buggy state just to hit the release date. As they've been doing lately.

which was a lie...they have been working on it for more then 3 years...a game as high a standard as TES will never be done in less then a year.

No way it's going to be delayed. If they waited this long to announce and have a date set it means they won't change it. I think that the game has been in pre-production during Fallout 3 development and in full-production after Fallout 3 released. So they have been working on this for quite sometime.

I hope not. I believe they have had a good amount of time for making this game great.

No it won't be.

Bethesda proved they can hit a hard date with New Vegas, no reason or evidence suggests they would miss this one.

These dates are not just arbitrarily chosen - alot of planning goes into it, and I'm certain the overall project plan points to a finish date (which will be sometime well before 11.11.11).

Keep the faith.

I don't think it will. They've probably been working on in for a long time. Ever since Oblivion came out is my guess. Of course, Oblivion came out in 2006 and Fall out 3 came out in 2008, not to mention the expansion packs. They probably had another team working on Skyrim, while the others worked on Oblivion's expansion packs and Fall out 3.

Personally, I think the development for this game is completely opposite with what happen in Oblivion. The game was delayed from a Holiday 2005 release because Bethesda got the hardware for Oblivion 6 months before launch.

With Skyrim, it's likely Bethesda had been working and building a new engine for TES for quite some time (probably after Oblivion). I'm actually under the impression the game is a lot further along than many believe. I think the 11-11-11 release date is actually more buffering room than anything else, just to make sure they release a flawless, polished, and complete experience.

This is my optimistic view of it. I'm hoping it's close to finished already and they're spending 10 months testing it and ironing out any problems. That's not too farfetched seeing as they very well may have been working on this game for 4 years already.

No. If it is, I will... I don't know... Be unhappy on 11/11/11... I'll make it a sacred day, a day of mourning. I will literally do nothing, every year, on 11/11/11, except sit on my bed, and think about how depressing that day would be... Not really, im not that dedicated lol.

No. Bethesda usually releases right on time. But if its really necessary to make a fantastic game, I wouldn't mind unless this turns into the new Duke Nukem. :o

11/11/11 is the best release date of the entire year, and they were very specific about it (not saying stuff like FALL 2011, which they could have easily done).

I think they've got enough of it done now to be confident it'll be releasable by then, and, well, look at New Vegas' launch. It can only be less buggy than that on launch.

Alas, life is rarely that simple. The best laid plans can be scuppered by something unexpected happening and then you end up with delays. Still hopeful that it will be released on time though.

They waited so long to announce it so they wouldn't have to delay it. Not to mention they made a pretty big deal out of the release date. I really, really, really doubt it would get delayed.. Maybe if Godzilla decides to go on a rampage at Bethesda studios or something..

I really doubt it though. And people should stop saying that they'd rather have it delayed and be a good game. I've waited long enough, I expect a good game on time lol.

I think they have it, no worries.

Yeah you guys have some good points. If they were unsure about the status of the game they could have easily said "Fall 2011", but they told us the exact day. Todd even made a big deal of saying "We've been waiting for the right time to not only tell you what we're working on, but the day it's coming out." And on such an iconic date, I really don't think they would delay.

So I change my answer!

I'd wager its farther along than you think and the 11-11-11 date is pretty firm. It was probably chosen more for marketing and budget purposes than a best estimate of the game being ready.
