Do you use Kynes Peace?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 7:34 am

What are your thoughts on the Kyne's Peace shout? At first I thought it was great because I didn't have to kill any more wolves and bears. Then I found out it works on giant bugs and trolls too, which are a lot of fun to fight. Plus I'm sick of having my ear drums practically ruptured whenever I use it (I play with headphones) so now I've stopped using it altogether. I mean really, what is with the noise? None of the other shouts are so loud.

Another problem with it is NPCs turn hostile to you if they're in the vacinity when you use it, so you need to be really careful no ones around.

So all this goes to make what otherwise would have been a really useful shout to be far less useful and fun. Do you think this was the intention? Wouldn't it have been better for the first word to only work on animals like dogs, wolves, bears, cats (and deer and bunnies), and then the second word include bugs and trolls and so on? And for the shout itself to be, I dunno... peaceful?

I role play my characters so I'm having to ask myself why wouldn't I use it. I tell myself I'm doing a public service by killing dangerous creatures but why wouldn't I use it in an emercency?

What are your thoughts?

Never tried it out to be honest.

Another option is the very last stone tablet that you read on your way up to see the Greybeards at High Hrothgar. It has the same effect and actually lasts for a certain amount of time. It's to the right of the front stairs leading up to the door. And it's quiet. lol

I'm using it on my new character a little bit. I guess I intend to take the Greybeards and Kyne seriously this time around (I've played a Blade before).

I used it once when I was at a lower level. Had to go into a cave full of bears and at my level fighting one was a challenge. Shout, run in, get what I needed, and run out.

I used it last night in Whiterun near all the Vendors (so I could get another "Letter from a Friend") and no one even noticed that I did it. I think I heard an NPC say something about power, but that was it.

I got this Shout this weekend, and I love it. I keep it cued up when ever I travel now, see a Bear, yell at it, see a Tiger, yell at it. Did not know it works on bugs and trolls, I will have to try that.

I do agree that for something that is supposed to sooth the savage beast, it is quite loud. I expected it to be more like "There there baby, that's a good wittle critter" or to follow the 3 word format, "Hush little baby"

I like the blessing of the sky even more, but it's sort of tedious to get. *I think* Afaik, you have to read all the tablets.

Only one? Not even Unrelenting Force or Elemental Fury are useful? What kind of character do you play? :)

I play 2 characters, a high elf mage and a nord warrior..neither of them have any use for most shouts

yeah, i find elemental badass for 2handers (well, anything really). i mostly use fus ro dah for interuppting mages, especially multiple ones.

Unrelenting Force is probably one of the least useful shouts unless you can blow someone off a cliff with it. Even with all three words it doesn't seem to knock over higher level enemies (thinking Draugr Deathlords specifically). It may or may not buy you a little time and does very little damage. I've never used Kyne's Peace though. I'll have to give it a shot. But then again, I soultrap and kill just about everything I come into contact with that won't give me a bounty or ruin a quest. Nevermind, I'll never use it.

Never use it. I didn't even bother to unlock the third word. Why calm an animal when you can send them flying as you run on by? Animal allegiance is a waste of time as well.

It's handy when I've got my bow equipped and I'm bushwhacking through an area I've never been through before, or I got nothing equipped because I'm chasing after a dang butterfly or dartwing, and a sabre cat comes out of nowhere. Sure, I can switch to favorites and load out for bear, but sometimes that's just too much trouble. Easier to just target, press V (PC), move on. What svcks is when I forget to switch from Kynes to an attack shout when I find a dungeon or cave to loot.

I don't mind the lack of dmg..I just like it for a range interupt (useful on my melee characters). Then just sprint and jam an axe in their head.

I think I use most of the shouts, but I don't use Kyne's Peace or Dragonrend (is Dragonrend supposed to be terrible on purpose?)

This. If you have enough stamina you could probably outrun anything anyway.

It's very useful for warrior characters who have no ranged capability.

Dragonrend's good if you're a Melee character, but I think it should have some sort of stun effect. Slow Time is probably by favorite non-final mission shout. That, and archery zoomslow lets me sneak attack an entire room before they even manage to turn around.

Yeah, but Dragonrend makes the dragons land so you can kill them. It's pretty annoying how they keep circling for ever and then sometimes fly away.

I don't want something that means the "hide" animals don't attack. I LOVES me my leatherworking.... And truthfully, I don't care about peaceful coexistence. If something attacks, I kill it. Whyever wouldn't you?

Well, I guess you wouldn't if you were a pacifist. I'm NEVER a pacifist.

Dragonrend would be cool if it made them crash land like they do when health is low..the I command you to land thing is dumb IMO

I use it frequently. Nothing beats it, IMO, at low levels when one or two hits from a bear or sabre cat can wipe you out. Even at higher levels, I still use it, mostly when I don't want to be bothered interrupting my explorations to fight.

I really differ with that standpoint. They're not the greatest idea, but I like them, and it helps differentiate my experiences with other games. Here, I'm dragonborn, so I may as well use it. I only wish I could use them a tiny bit more frequently. They're more like "Oh sh*t!" spells.

Heh. Yeah.... on toons which actually do the MQ, mostly they just use Fire Breath and Whirlwind Sprint. Occasionally Frost Breath. I don't like Fus.... I don't like most of them really. Fire Breath works great on just about everything, and that's the sort of thing I like - one size fits all. I hate switching back and forth, because there's no such thing as "on the fly" - too many clicks to swap....
