So, I go to the Radient Raiment, and buy some clothes. I put on the Radient Raiment Fine Clothes. I go to talk to Taarie. She comments on how terrible my outfit is. Well played, devs. Well played.

They're some of the most irritating shopkeepers in Skyrim. I was about to have my Pain and Agony visit their necks, but I said "meh, not worth the bloody mess" and left :P

They are one of the primary reasons I took an almost instant dislike to Solitude... I think their store was my first stop on my very first visit to the city and sadly I never quite recovered from the experience. Equally annoying is the fact that they are AFAIK the only place where you can count on finding a good selection of non-armour apparel so if you want to put together a particular outfit ASAP and haven't already looted anything suitable, they're usually your only option.

Their constant snarking about your outfit is especially annoying when your "outfit" is a full set of double enchanted, legendary-and-then-some Daedric armor that's worth more than everything in their shop put together plus the property itself.

Some of the happiest moments of my first complete playthrough came after I had gotten to 100 in Speech and taken all the perks... and was able to go into their store with any old junk I had, take a ridiculously strong Fortify Barter potion, don my Zenithar amulet, and sell them useless crap at inflated prices until I had taken every septim they had. :P

If you're headed to the Blue Palace, you might want to rethink that outfit ...
I love it when Taarie says that despite the fact that you're wearing the clothing SHE gave you to show off in front of the Jarl. Good ol' Taarie!

Edit: just noticed that my point is almost the same as the OP's ... Well, don't mind me! :D

I just find it pretty satisfying to steal everything from Radiant Raiment's strongbox and counters on every trip through Solitude. Fitting revenge.

Yeah, I hate those dummies too. But the biggest shame is that Taarie is the only Altmer available for marriage.

As much as I hate the ladies at Radiant Raiment, I also have to say that equating expensive with tasteful is something only a truly tasteless person would do. Wearing any kind of blood-stained battle armor to formal occasions like a Jarl's court seems tacky. Elisif may find it politically necessary to deal with you, but as soon as you leave she and the thanes have a good laugh at your crude manners.

Given what I've seen of the court at the Blue Palace, Elisif and her entourage can all bite me. :P

If I'm wearing armor, it's because I'm a warrior. You'll notice that "hangers on" in the Jarls' digs in other holds are often wearing their armor in the Jarl's presence when he is on the throne holding court, provided armor-wearing is a part of their job description. Hell, the other Jarls, even the lay-dee ones, are wearing armor type stuff when they are on their thrones holding court.

Having a formal dinner with lots of posh invited guests? Yeah, formal attire, no armor, fine. Everyday goings-on? Bah. Armor seems fine. Everywhere except Solitude. Probably another reason I don't care for it too much.

And even if they have a problem with it, there's no reason for two members of the freakin' merchant class to be snotty to moi (do they have a title? No? Well I DO). All they have to say is, "oh are you going to the Blue Palace? We have a fine line of formal apparel that would be appropriate. Let's find something you like!" But no, they gotta play the I'm An Altmer Snob card. Bah.

With a few exceptions, Solitude is a city full of snobs and milk-drinkers. :P

...You play a vampire who has given names to his/her fangs? :hehe:

They are Altmer, how else could they act? Seriously, it's like expecting a khajiit not eat moon sugar. OR a Thalmor not get killed on sight :teehee:

Anyway, i've no reason to visit that shop, i get prettier clothing elsewhere

My solution to those fine folks at Radiant Raiment is to discontinue shopping at their establishment. I mean, if the clothing that they sell me isn't good enough even for them, they need to shut down and find a different line of work because apparently they've got no fashion sense...or maybe they're just some greedy [censored]s who want all your money and business, regardless of whether or not what you are wearing looks good enough for the blue palace.

There are several, rude and crude merchants in the game. It wasn't until my third character that I even made it to Solitude. Until then, I disliked that Lt Armor merchant in Riften. Grelga? Is that right? After meeting the fine folk at the shop in Sol, I grew to miss and even care deeply for old Grelga. Her comments as you walk away are classic. Poor girl is stuck in town with no bus money.

She'd say that regardless of what you're wearing. It's not about the clothes, it's to make you feel bad about yourself so you'll buy something.

This happened to me too.
Spoiler
I was wearing that garment that she gave me to show the Jarl at Solitude I came back and told her she liked it. A little later she told me my outfit was terrible.

I actually find them entertaining... not to mention they would make perfect weapons:

Tullius: "Ulfric, give up now!"
Ulfric: "Or what?"
Tullius: "Or I'll persuade the Radiant Remnant merchants to open the shop in Windh-"
Ulfric: "LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR!"

I actually hoped I might "run into" them during the Battle of Solitude...

"Jarl Ulfric, I... I regret to report that I may have accidentally killed some civilians."

"WHAT? I gave strict orders that no civilians were to be harmed. Did you not-"

"Yes but you know those two Altmer-"

"-understand what I meant when I said no-"

"-ladies from the dress shop near the city gates-"

"-civili... wait, what? You mean those Radiant Raiment women? Well... they totally had it coming. Carry on, Dragonborn."

If I have useless **** to unload, I just unload it onto them when I'm in the area. Other than that and stealing from them, they're useless. I tend to get my jewelry from Kerah or Madesi. For armor or clothes, I buy what I want from the blacksmiths or court wizards.

Also, if you want to avoid Taarie's lines, body slam her.

No, they were Daedric Axes, Pain had Fiery Soul Trap and Absorb Health, while Agony had Absorb Stamina and Absorb Magicka. They're very effective at dealing with necks :P
