Youtube! Augh! Why

Post » Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:34 am

Have anyone else's youtube videos been freezing up? My videos load to a third or a half of the way through, and then they just stop. If I reload them, usually the same thing happens, often at the same spot but sometimes at some other part; and sometimes they won't even load again. I get the impression it must have something to do with my connection, but my connection works fine everywhere else on the internet. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any way to fix it? Tell me I'm not alone!

Ya, I am having a problem with YouTube. Actually, there are a lot of problems lately for some websites due to a potential ddos attack (Reddit, TF2). Today, the forums are loading even slower than usual.

Wish I'd seen this a couple of minutes ago. I just started a thread asking if anyone else was having long page load times on the forums today.

I get it all the time. The only solution is waiting for youtube to behave. The more annoying problem for me is around 7pm to 9pm GMT Youtube decides that it can't load 360p quick enough even when my connection is fine. I know it's not because my connection is slow because i'm generally speed testing it everytime it happens and i'm always above at least 3mbs.

I used to have issues with Youtube(and some other sites ie: Cracked, Collegehumor) videos loading. Most times they wouldn't load at all. Very occasionally they'd load a bit, but then stop.

We ended up dropping TWC(due to much lower than promised internet speed and pricing for standard def cable) for satellite and DSL. Now videos load with no problems.

Yup. Been having trouble all freaking day long with videos where they lock up, freeze up, or just refuse to load in general. Thought it might be youtube launching a war against people that use no-script and adblocker. Know that Hulu will detect if you are using adblocking software and load up a 30 second to 1min 30 second spot the ad would run in, asking you to turn your stuff off.

Actually, I was on the forums this morning, tried to post and got cut off. Thing said the forums went down for maintenance. Tried to get back in again and got an SQL error where it gave a small box and said it wasn't my end but the forum's end.

Until Hulu can guarantee that I won't get some hijacker trojan embedded in an ad that I didn't ask to see, they can go DIAF. I had that happen to me once, which is why I installed AdBlock Plus.

I don't know about YouTube, but some time back someone sneaked a hijacker into a banner ad that was run by a few of the WordPress blog sites. The computer that got infected was a work PC, and the site I was visiting was just a political one, nothing sleazy or dodgy about it.

It was still not pleasant having to submit an IT ticket to get my computer working again.

Okay, banner ads make sense. I have heard stories about those guys, I just thought you meant the video itself did that :bolt:

Yep, there was an update to the software earlier, nothing suspicious there.

Oh it's Youtube? I thought a Windows update screwed up my Flash again.

My vids take a good 10 seconds to load at the start, sometimes longer. If I refresh it fixes it, but still annoying.

No problem, just didn't want to start poking around under the hood on my end if it wasn't necessary.

Right... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qXXWHfJha4. :ninja:

Yea, i'm distrustful of adverts. The Discovery website had that nasty Vundoo virus on it. I visited their site with my old laptop, ignorant about adverts having viruses at the time, and got that rather nasty piece on my laptop. Had to have it serviced and even called up Microsoft to help me deal with it. The person used Hi-jack this to go into everything and clean it out. Even emailed the little turds about it and they didn't send so much as a reply back to me. Pfft

Also do custom blocking material with every site I go to with Ad Blocker Plus. It was a nightmare to learn how to deal with ABP in the beginning. One thing i'm glad about is that I stuck with it. Have several sites, including livestream, locked down to where if a new ad pops up, I can isolate it then block it relatively quickly. Though, a person who believes they are invulnerable from getting viruses is a rather foolish one. If there's a determined enough person, they'll get into my system and screw it up.

Having the same problems. And the number of adds anymore, it's ridiculous.

I found that refreshing the page after the video "loads" will make it play.

Sheesh, YouTube, fix your stuff!

OP starts a topic about youtube videos not working properly. PredatorX links to a youtube video. That's so insensitive!

I heard a lot of people had much faster video load times after changing over to OpenDNS or Google's Public DNS servers*

*Every time I type DNS Server, I can't help but think "ATM Machine" even though I know the S in DNS is for "System" :/

I always thought DNS meant for Domain Name Server, or is that an entirely different thing?
