YouTube new comment version

Post » Thu Nov 07, 2013 2:03 pm

Am I the only one who's hating the new YT comment version? It is stupid as hell. When I want to see who replied to who I get sent to another same YT page. Wtf is that all about? Some folks are complaining that they can't reply back to their subscribers and a host of other stuff. Stupid Google. The previous comments was good as it was, it only needed a few extras, not eliminating features. Idiots.

It svcks. I don't think I've even seen the top comments. They're always interesting.

YouTube is a master when it comes 5o fixing things that aren't broke.

I guess I'm not the only one hating the stupid ass new comment version. Look at this site and read the angry comments below.

It does indeed svck. "Google Plus is where your comments will go."

A couple of things with that. I don't even want to use Google Plus and WTH was wrong with the old comment section? I am trying to find the comments in Google+ but I am not finding it.

Does google own Youtube or something?

Might as well just call Youtube "Googletube" or something at this rate that google is taking over.

Ah well that makes sense. So Google isn't going anywhere. It's just going to slowly ruin Youtube till people get pissed and someone creates a new but legally disinct version of Youtube.

To me this might be telling us that Google+ is a fail and Google is trying to force it on people. "You like Youtube? *Rings hands together* Well you'll have to use Google+ svckers! Muahahahaha"

From reading the reasons for why they made this change.. it doesn't make sense because they put things in place for people to control who posts on their channel. So if they are trying to stop pointless posts.. they should just be telling youtube channels to use the filters more to remove spammers and other unwanted posters.

But I guess they just opted for the nuclear option and just ruined the ability to post comments at all

The thing I liked about YT is the videos and the freedom you had to comment. This nanny mentality, if it is the case, is ridiculous. Might as well get rid of all comments and make YT into a video watch only.

Adblock apparently needs to be disabled to show the comments now.

I can see them fine with Adblock Plus.

I don't mind the comment section. I actually sort of like it, because it will hopefully push the bickering and pointless comments to the back and the helpful, useful, or insightful ones to the front.

My only concerns are:

  • How will insightful posts be upvoted if only the upvoted ones appear on the first page to begin with?
  • How exactly do we upvote posts at all?
  • Will the https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/herp-derp-for-youtube/ioomnmgjblnnolpdgdhebainmfbipjoh?hl=en-US plugin ever work again? I need it

I have noticed an pandemic of spam on youtube, the more popular the channel the more spam. In some channels every post is "Earn Money from Home, click this link!"

But yeah as I said youtube put things in place to remove crap like that, put it was up to the channel owner to act. Someone smapping the crap out of the commnet section... you write their name in the "Don't allow posts" section and problem solved. But some channels are very large, so it would be hard for them to do so. They would need a full time person just removing the spam.

But hey there is an idea for Googletube. Just hire some people to be moderators. They already have people to make sure porm and such isn't being uploaded. Just get people who check for spam. Or better yet and I am sure it is possile. Write a program to remove spammers. Or have all of the above, channel control over posters, moderators and a program to remove spam.

No need to go nuclear.

Also thinking about what could be causing all the spam is Google's endless need to gather so much information on everyone. Spammers get all the info and they can create endless zombie accounts.

Oh thank god Beth's forums finally working for me so I can comment here. :P No one else was having problems/ridiculous lag with these forums?

Anyways yeah, biggest mystery: how do we even upvote comments? Only comments that've already been upvoted can be upvoted. And then I looked up old vids I had a feeling I had top comment on like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MArZIm7UM5k and there's no voting period.

So how the HELL does the community filter out spam if we can't even vote?

I've been watching a lot of YT vids lately and rarely do I see spam and if there is, the spam is tagged/voted and hidden as spam. Well, that was the old system which I like.

I'm done with leaving comments anyway. I got tired of YT constantly asking me to sign in using my real name. I don't even log in anymore. I just search and watch whatever and leave it at that.

I bet it's just Google trying to assert itself on YT by forcing, bit by bit, Google+ INTO EVERY SINGLE [censored] THING!

[censored]! IT'S JUST SO AWFUL!

I guess you don't watch the same channels I watch

Screen Junkies and Cinemasins are two of them and they are really bad for spam.

On a note of the tagging thing. I am against that for one thing. Other members use it to hide posts that aren't spam but they simply don't like what people are saying. "What you disagree with me?! How dare you, your post is now spam!"

Having posts removed if unpopular is fine by me. Kind of the samething as just hiding a post but less dikeish IMO.

I guess not, lol. As for the tagging thing, yes, sometimes people tag a genuine comment as spam but that doesn't happens as much in my experience since there's the other tag to vote down a bad comment. The system was really not broken it only needed some enhancements, not a reinvention of the wheel.

More human moderators and a clear way to report problems.

Really the comment sections are mini forums but it's pretty much mob rule at best and a cesspit. I can see why they would want to bring order to it, but as I have been saying they went nuclear and just basically said "No one gets to post! Unless you use Google+ and go through a complicated process." They already put in place ways to deal with things, to have order, but I guess it wasn't working as fast as they wanted?

And there's also wanting all forms of social media to be connected through Google so they know everything you are doing at all times while you are online so they can sell you stuff.

Sorry, no. YT has been the only place that I cared to use. But if things go more puritan and stupid, I certainly will be looking for other alternatives.

Yeah they are pretty much trying to make Youtube PG.

Oh I just thought of something that would make so much sense and would actually work.

A "Block Comments" option. If people don't want to read the comments or they don't want their kids reading comments.. then have the option to block comments and just have the videos.

So people who like reading comments and saying rude things to one another can keep doing so.

I have a feeling this new system might backfire on youtube. Once people get sick of this crap and they will, people will leave youtube. The big money making channels will complain that their viewers and source of money is falling, Youtube will be forced to change back to how it was.

But then again they could just let it die out in the name of political correctness
