YouTubeInternet "celebrities", am I missing much?

Depends on what you like. If you like the sound of screeching seagulls right next to your ear maybe you'd like pewdiepie for instance. In all seriousness though most of the big ones seems to be teen culture that appeals to the same crowd that like the american pie movies, so if that's not you then probably not.

Nope, unless you have overlooked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyx9-kWYjDI

I only follow him, TeamFourStar, and a few costume makeup artists. And by "follow," I mean, "sometimes notice they've done something new and interesting if I happen to land on YouTube's homepage and not just have clicked on a link.

If anyone actually thinks they're an 'e-celebrity' on Youtube, then they're a knob.

I mainly watch Gamestation stuff, specifically TB, Jesse Cox and occasionally the Yogscast. The people who make a big fuss about their subscriber base I frankly dont care about. And PewDiePie is among the most disgusting people I've ever seen videos from (e.g. his constant jokes about sixual assault and disgusting video titles intended to grab the attention of 12 year olds).

I still don't understand this Pewdepie person.

I'm subscribed to maybe 4 people right now, well 3 people and Funimation. After that, I just watch Criken and Totalbiscuit's videos. Used to watch that AgentLemur person for their GIFs. Sadly, he'll stop making them since he's getting a job.

I watch Scoutthedoggie, Roman Atwood, VitalyZDTV (In HD), and the occasional playthrough as long as it isn't theradbrad, and pass judgement on the game. Now and then I'll watch a "Here's where to find Item x" vid, but that's on a rare occasion. I've never liked RayWIlliamJohnson, Pewdiepie's annoying, Tobuscus is a sell-out, I remember Smosh form when I was 14, but stopped watching after a week. Youtube used to have some interesting machinima's, but now that anyone and everyone has a capture card, the quality has diminished completely.

I never understood people's fascination with celebrity. I base my assessment of entertainers on their artistic abilities. If actors, how well do they perform their various roles? If musicians, how well do they sing, play an instrument and/or conduct an ensemble? So on and so forth. Now, some of my favorite "artists" are also celebrities. But this aspect of their existence doesn't interest me. I could care less, for instance, about who an actor or actress dates or what clothes they wear to some function or what political/religious views they hold. Their private lives are their own concern and none of mine. (I do hope they are happy or at least content with their lot in life.)

As for YouTube, the Let's Players I watch somewhat regularly range from obscure to popular. The popular one are good at what they do. That they are popular is incidental to why I watch them.
