Yeah. Don't mind me, I'm just having fun here. With all the complaints and counter-complaints about features in (or not in) a game that hasn't been released yet, it's either take it seriously or don't. I figure "don't."

If you can't RP in any given environment... you aren't much of an RP'er.
What you ask for is definitely from a hipster point of view... more worried about how it appears to others than what you actually are aiming to achieve... self delusion. At the end of the day, RP is about self immersion. How else would RP have been achievable since the dawn of gaming.
I think the best solution is to provide the option. I probably wouldn't use it, unless I'm with a group.
There's a difference between simply roleplaying and having fun while roleplaying.
its not just about chat bubbles - I just want a chat box .. with global chat, trade, common chat, squad chat, and by global chat I mean being able to speak with the entire megaserver .. just like a normal mmo has.
blocking us from speaking to the other alliances is an outright proof that they got their own plans and have no real care about their community.
Did you not read what I wrote? WE CAN CHAT WITH THE OTHER FACTIONS.
Plus there is going to be a chat window in this game, don't know where you are getting your information from.
So you are saying that the ultimate enjoyment from RP isn't immersing yourself... it's how other's see you doing it? Or that you can interact with the world in many ways? Maybe the feeble minded need a chair to make RP believable...
Very strange thinking. I like your hat and you are very talented.
in every single video I have seen there was no chat box at all .. not once .. nowhere
in addition I heard mat fryer (or w/e his name was) clearly say that he has decided after a lengthy thought that he was going to allow some speech to happen between some of the races but that if it was abused it would immediately be taken away .. and no I do not have a source link to that interview.
No? well i know what you are talking about... a narrow minded look into the enjoyment of RP, like every other person in this thread.
The amount of real world activities that could stop such fragile minds from RP is astounding, yet the " chair " and " chat bubbles " is a necessity. Oh you novices...
They turn off the chat window because they are showing off the very minimalist UI. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. You will have your traditional chat window where you can see: Global, Local, Guild, Party, Raid, Whisper chats.
Also, it was Brian Wheeler, and he said that they are ALLOWING players from DIFFERENT factions to talk to each other. They said that they would take it away if they felt like it would be abused in Cyrodiil. That still means you can talk to other factions. So, you really can't say they aren't allowing you to talk to the other factions, when in fact they have said you can.
wrong wrong and more wrong
heres how it is
1st of all I said there would not be any talk allowed between other alliances .. not factions or guilds .. I said alliances (which there is none allowed from what I understand its only allowed between guilds)
2nd you cannot have a (Global) chat because of the megaserver .. just not possible ..
and 3rdly unless you have infact played the game then you cannot tell me there is a chat box.
You can't sit on chairs, no collision detection, no friendly fire, disappearing mounts, infinite arrows, no weight system, no radiant AI, no pick pocketing, essential npcs, no PvP outside of Cyrodiil, no crime system, soft lock, armor doesn't affect on your speed, only slight penalties on death and you could resurrect too near and too fast after it etc. There are several things in this game which are made more for other people than roleplayers. But chat bubbles aren't among them. I wish we could just turn all written chat off if we wish to do so. I'm fine as long as I could just speak on my microphone and my voice is heard near of my character and I could hear other peoples voices when they speak near me.
Wrong wrong and more wrong
1) Yes, they have already confirmed someone from the DC can communicate with someone from the AD. So yeah, stop saying that
2) I was just listing things. Never said that global chat would be in.
3) Um...it's common sense this game will have a chat window. In pretty much an MMO you play the chat window fades if no one is using it. That's what happens in this game. They have said that if you don't use the chat window it won't show up in the UI. And if you want I'll point out the first leaked video of ESO from way back in March. You can clearly see a chat window in there.
I think you are a bit misinformed about how chatting works in this game.
We'll have to see - I thought it was common sense to know MMOs have chat bubbles.
You don't have to believe me, but, it's true.
Brian Wheeler has already said they will allow cross-faction communication and if you look at the first no-no video you can clearly see a chat window.
Let's be grateful for a mediocre game? No thanks, I'll take my money elsewhere if they are just out to cash in on the IP.
I didn't understand all the fuss about chat bubbles but that makes sense. And it sort of fits with ESO's general design philosophy of players paying attention to the gameworld rather than the UI.
It should be easy enough for them to implement - we're just talking about parsing out chat text and loading it into bubbles - but even if ZO don't do it, I'm sure this would be a relatively simple thing to mod.
Maybe that's why they're not doing it. Leaving a few things like this to modders helps to seed the modding community.
You honestly believe that them not showing the chat box in demo videos means that they're going to launch an MMO without any sort of communication built in? Really?
My "thoughts" are that RP players are the minority in games, and usually set up their own rules in MMOs regardless of any circumstances forthwith..and if you have roleplayed in a few MMOs you would understand that the community is more important, not the rules to complain about. RPers gonna RP regardless of circumstance
