Zenimax hates Roleplayers

Post » Sat Aug 10, 2013 6:12 pm

Now we know that there are no chat bubbles and you cannot interact with world objects such as chairs. I get that they claim to want us to be immersed in the world, but that is different from actually roleplaying with other people. Thoughts?

I've RPed successfully while on a road trip from Tennessee to Michigan. So I think I can pull it off without chat bubbles and the ability to sit in chairs....

In a nod to global warming Tamriel is going to sink beneath the waves two months after launch. Can't get more immersed than that.

Yeah but the real world is pretty immersive with local VOIP always on at all times, and I bet you could sit in chairs without much hassle.

In all seriousness however, I wouldn't go so far as to say they hate RPers, just that they are low priority because they (we) are in a minority. Hopefully if we clamor loud enough they'll take the time to add things in the create a thriving RP community.

I think the horse deserves to rest in peace, to be honest.

The role-playing community has already made its voice heard in distaste for both of these. I think it is safe to say that if Zenimax plans to reverse these decisions they will let the community know. If it were something as simple as one of the bosses saying, "Hey Frank, go through every chair in the world and flag them for interactions." I'm sure it will be done eventually. But Frank probably has more important things to do right now to ensure the game will have a timely and successful launch. In all probability, however, it's more likely that they did not make the proper animations for the player character models and that is something that would take a lot of time, effort and money for them to do. And how long is the average player going to spend sitting in a chair? Probably not that long, let's be honest.

Chat bubbles are likely something that wouldn't be as involved. The problem is a lot of people don't like them, myself included. Making it an option would certainly be the optimal solution... but do they have the time and manpower to spare to implement it right now? Probably not. Could they potentially add something like this in the future? Certainly, if enough people want it.

My 2 cents on the matter.

Were you standing up in the car the whole time? Pretty sure car seats are a type of chair, lol! And don't tell me you never stopped for some greasy diner food, nothing like on a long road trip!

I think people are grateful, but that doesn't mean everything is up to snuff yet.

I really don't want to see any chat bubbles, so no complaints here. An intuitive area chat and whisper systems would be better, imo. And perhaps the character could do some sort of talking gesture when the player says something in chat.

Chat bubbles are necessary to communicate efficiently. ZOS does not want us to communicate efficiently, they've made it obvious of that.

im in total agreement that they do infact hate not only roleplayers but us as a whole community! your absolutely correct in your title of this thread. anything and everything they can do to anger, disappoint, disturb, annoy, and flat out disrespect us as a customer has been done! they removed the freedom from our morrowind treasure and destroyed the true roots of the dunmer culture and history. sick, discusting and filthy all for the mighty dollar and selfishness of what they feel should be in the game is all they put into it! this isn't elderscrolls online ... its zenimax hirelings have totally destroyed what was once an American icon and national if not global treasure and a true heart break to many many dunmer like myself! yes I will be there to witness the catastrophy and degenaret destruction and reenactment of what they think is mo0rrowind BUT I CAN ASSURE YOU it will not be morrowind and most certainly wont be what we need as a steady flow of another elderscrolls title .. if only I was a billionare and could buy them out and set us back on the path of the way things are suppose to be and what they should be I would do so in a flash of an instant and immediately not only release the proper morrowind homeland intact properly but would make it free to all to play and pay out of my own pocket for the maintance and proper work needed to keep it running for many years to come!!!

It's one of two things: Either they started out as absolutely clueless as to how a TES MMO should be and are hastily backtracking through the fan's requests and demands or it is the riskiest, most brilliantly counter-intuitive marketing plan ever whereby they lower expectations so much for the game that when it launches it blows people away that it's even playable.

I don't think they are purposely giving fans and roleplayers the middle finger. I personally think they started out mildly clueless but are thankfully ego-less enough to learn from and correct their mistakes along the way.

are we to act as pioneers and founders and help them set it properly along its way ? .. no .. we are not .. simply play morrowind for a minimum of about 3000 hours and youll see for yourself its endless and boundless and even heavenly paths and truths!

just play morrowind and youll see all they need to see to build a proper mmo!!

I want chat bubbles, but I want them to be actual bubbles, that rise up and pop in the air with a distinct sound. If they don't give me this, it's because they hate me.

Okay, that's taking it a bit far. The point of a forum is to discuss, not to request features.

I see no reason the game would need chat bubbles. If you really want to communicate efficiently with a group, use voice chat. Putting words over someone's head is too cartoony for my tastes.

I still see no reason that a better system can't be developed. What works in every MMO won't necessarily work in ESO.

I have RP'ed before but not in MMOs. I don't about you guys but I find it RP-breaking to want chat bubbles. To me, RP is trying to be as immersed and realistic as possible. Words over my head is not one of those things...

True, words in a text box are so much more immersive. ;)

Here's the deal with chat bubbles and RPing/communicating. There's two things that can happen:

1. You don't have chat bubbles - You have to look in the chat box to see if someone is talking and what they are saying. You have to look at their name in the chat box and locate their name in the game world.

Or,

2. You have chat bubbles - What people are saying appears above their heads. You read the text above their head. You know who you are speaking to, since the text appeared above their head. You knew what they were saying by looking at them instead of staring at a chat box.
