200 hours in and I'm still stopping in awe or exclaiming out

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:58 am

I am still finding new dungeons with stories, unique NPCs etc.

I am still finding vistas that make me stop and simply stare at mist covered mountains as broad rivers roll by and animals move below me in a mountain valley.

I am still discovering quests that I haven't found before (played 3 characters) and having random encounters I've never had.

I am still noticing small environmental touches that the creators put in place - from a vine covered ruin that blends into the mountain, to a foreboding carving that seems placed just right.

I salute you, Skyrim team, because you have made a masterpiece!

Can you please name some of these unique NPCs? I can't find one.

I would like to know where they are myself I sure as hell did not see them.Seems some people are easily pleased these days I can not think of one redeeming feature the game has other than a beautiful looking open world.

Hm, I'm not sure what others call a 'unique NPC' but I've stumbled across a mage breeding hybrid monsters, a warlock trapping greedy adventurers etc. To me these add flavor and meaning to the dungeon.

Nightwishnz, I find you immature and a troll - not b/c you disagree but because you decide to insult people in disagreeing.

There are plenty of complaint threads, how about the trolls and children go read/write in those and leave one thread for appreciation.

I never insulted anyone when I was disagreeing? I just think the NPC's in the game are pretty average, can you honestly say the NPC's in the game are of good quality?.I am sorry I do not look at the game in rose tinted glasses like alot of people. If people did not state why they did not think the game was all that great in the forums developers would release the same old same old.

and therein lies the issue.

you're coming off as very condescending with your preferences ("huh, I disagree. EXPLAIN YOURSELF NOW BECAUSE I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG.") whether intentional or not.

The game is good. i wouldnt have almost 200 hours on it if it svcked. A lot of people make suggestions for improvments or wish lists and that type of thing, there is even threads for wish lists on the next TES game. I have participated in many of them.

But this game is good. I hope the developers can sift through the wishlists and negativity on the forum boards and see the appreciation as well. When I make a suggestion or write about how I miss attributes or whatever, I do so knowing that even with those things i miss, this game is really fun. could it be improved? Sure, so can anything. When it is relatively easy to look past the low points, when the high points outweigh them by so much, the result is a great game.

Yep, I still keep having moments where I just stop and stare at the landscape.
I've taken more screenshots in Skyrim than I'd done in all previous RPGs combined.

Exclaiming out loud?

I can`t think of a time when any game made me exclaim out loud. Maybe when I got stabbed by surprise in BF3. Nah, not even then, people would think i`m nuts. A sharp intake of breath, yes.

Getting knifed in 1st person in BF3 can be quite a shocking experience.

Bought Battlefield 3, felt like it was a masterpiece until Skyrim hit the stores and it became a masterpiece over a masterpiece.

Needless to say, Skyrim was NEVER taken out from my PS3 since November 2011.

Really...someone stabbing you on a BF3 match is shocking? I'm not trying to mock you or anything...it's just, I like BF3 quite a lot and I didn't find anything the game had to offer...to...impress me in any way...maybe the graphics, those are really well done.
But I have had games make me yell...take Amnesia for example.

Skyrim does have nice landscapes but mostly if you stick to the southern regions, the north is boring as hell.

I just recently came across Froki Whetted-Blade and Medresi Dran. There is always something new to find in an out of the way corner.

I'm with the OP.

There are truly amazing and beautiful vistas to be seen. Many has been the time when I HAVE exclaimed out loud, then just stood there and watched for 10 minutes.

For example the 'tree sanctuary'.

Yes, it is a masterpiece, and is becoming more so by the day thanks to the modding community.

The release version was what, 4.7GB? My folder is now over 11.1GB!

OK, it takes about a week after each patch to get everything sweet again but it's for sure worth it to me.

My only downer is that one day I might 'finish it'. My only hope is that, thanks to DLCs & Modz, it will be on the day before ES6 is released!

Maybe it depends on how you play. Everyone should know that by now. Every game has different levels right?

I play on hardcoe which makes for tense games. You`re creeping about or lying in wait when SUDDENLY your view moves as someone grabs your shoulder and spins you around - You see this huge face (and his eyes) in your monitor with a wicked knife as he stabs you in the throat, leaving you dead. All in first person. It`s the whole in-your-face-thing that`s different from previous games.

It don`t happen to me much any more, but it still makes me jump when someone manages to catch me by surprise like that.

My wife and I have both played since Nov, and are both compusilve explorers. I played through the core quest lines at least twice on different characters, and she has once.. yet we still find new things all the time - my favorites are frequently not the ones that register as a location on your map. A shrine with a thoutghful arrangement, a strange ruin, an abandoned tent with scattered flowers, a burnt house, etc. Places and NPCs that seem they could have stories to them.

I agree with the OP.

I'm over 500 hours in and my current character JUST discovered a new witches tower AND found a new follower there! Illia! This game is amazing!

I know what you mean. Character number 4 hasn't died in this game... until Saturday. Some Bandit Marauder actually got in a finishing move on her! I sat there stunned, with a WTF expression on my face! LOL
