"300 Hours of gameplay"

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:40 am

@Otheral, 150 hours per character, I'm tired of explaining this
Just trying to help maybe you should roleplay, if you cannot get more out of this game, then this series is probably not for you.

@ Ripperman yes I've done a fair bit of exploring, I've done the small misc tasks that are given by the townspeople, etc, etc.

You could probably consider playing through the same section multiple times as an archer, dual wielder, sword and boarder, two hander, destruction mage, and stealth dagger killer as additional content. So far I've just about covered those bases across all of my characters, and am up above 300 hours. I'm also still coming across areas of the map that I have never seen.

Ok kewl, I am only at 95 hours and just started the main quest and still have loads more quests to do along with most of the Daedric Quests.

My first character has barely completed anything after 200 hours. That's how long it took to complete 50-60% of thieves' guild, 2 daedric quests and learn the final word of Unrelenting Force from the Greybeards.

I switched to a warrior just to mix it up and try a different playing style. So far this character has taken about 80 hours or so to complete

Spoiler
most of the Companions quests and help the Stormcloaks capture Whiterun. Only did the main quest up to the part where you learn Unrelenting Force. No daedric quests so far.

If I were to focus on the main quest, civil war, one or two other faction questlines and a few daedric quests, this seems like it will take at least 400-500 hours. I have a friend who has somehow managed to play Skyrim about 700 hours since release date, 600 of which was his first character, and he did not even touch the civil war or main quest.

I believe playing time should be shorter on an easier difficulty setting (playing on master) and if you use fast travel frequently. I fast travel primarily to drop off loot at home after clearing dungeons or to teleport to the interior of a town when I am already close by. Other than that, I typically ride a horse or walk.

@Otheral, I know you were just trying to help, I have just written down 'on one character' so many times in 5 minutes, on second thought, just roleplaying doesn't sound that bad, not nearly as bad as 'grinding every skill to 100'.. I'll give you that

i rarely stop to loot anymore. i have more flawless gems than i can sell, and with dual enchanted daedric armor, well....you get the idea. tip: when smithing your daedric armor, smith some cheap leather armor and enchant it with smithing/grand soul gem. do this with everything you can, ie: gauntlets, jewelry etc. + a high smithing potion. OMG.

Oh I know the joy of double dipping :D on Dragonplate though, I prefer that look over Daedra.
I still like to stop and smell the dead bodies however, immersion and/or OCD, the gold coin pile can never be big enough,

I'm going to be honest: to me this post feels spoiled, entitled and antagonistic.

Why make the title: "300 hours of gameplay" and critique a company that just gave you 150 HOURS of gaming experience.

What games come close to that that are single player??? With one character???

Your post seems incredibly ungrateful - regardless of your addendum that you love the game etc.

Sounds like a kid who sat down at a filet mignon dinner with lobster, wine, dessert, etc. and looks around and says "Where's the shrimp cocktail? I thought you promised that...."

To me I am so thankful Bethesda is still putting games out that are labors of love instead of most companies who simply try to deliver enough content to take your money. Or who run 30-50 hours max (which is most RPGs included)

Ugh.

i gave a whole set of dragon plate to lydia, and she wore it for a bit. i came home one day and it was gone. i think she sold it for skooma.

Really. I was happy with DXHR after about 30 hours of gameplay. This game, even by the OP's count, has quintupled that for the same price.

Sorry MetalGod, I don't think you'll find anyone here who believes that 150hrs is enough to beat it.

Also, I noticed you mentioned enchanting as many pieces of gear with fortify smithing, and using that to upgrade weapons/armor with. Ever occur to you that maybe that's why it stopped being fun?

I'll admit, the drive for uber upgraded weapons and armor drove me to that discovery as well. Then shortly after I noticed I was becoming uninterested in continuing my adventure. Even on master difficulty it was no longer a challenge.

So with my new Khajiit assassin build I have sworn to not use smithing or enchanting perks, I still upgrade my gear, just not to an insane level. Only using a smithing +34% potions and a +20% necklace. And only using weapons and armor I've found.

@theripperman, I must say, the deaderic quests are by far the most interesting in the game. Personally, I thought Sanguine's was the most fun

I'm still on my very first playthrough with about 152 hours in so far I put the difficulty on master since the begining.I never put any points into my health or stamina only toward my magica for summons.I get one shooted by pretty much anything so I always have to rely heavely on my sneak, archery and my conjuration spells to keep the enemie at bay I'am currently at level 55 trying to reach level 81 there is still so much that I haven't done and I plan to reach well over 300 hours with my first character I'm having more fun now then I was at the begining know that I know what enemies can do and how to react to them accordingly I try to walk everywhere instead of fast travel but sometimes the urge to use it becomes to great and I become too impatiant to walk and I always regret my weakness.I'm sorry to hear that skyrim has become boring for you and you no longer feel entertained by ithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsqJFIJ5lLs .but I'm still going long and strong and plan to still be playing this game well after bioshock infinite, prey 2,borderlands 2,halo 4,and kingdoms of amalur.

I am not complaining at all, I'm more than satisfyed of the content I got. I'm just saying, at least read my posts before you rant about it. Also, If I got 275 hours, I wouldn't say anything at all, but just in case you can't do math 150/300= 1/2, which is half, half of the content they were boasting.

I never made uber gear, in fact, most of my enchantments and armor I sold, not used

I understand, just give yourself a backstory explain why your in Skyrim. Limit yourself to things only your character would do, base you perks off of what type of character design you want, tell the story of why you use certain things. Explore the world as your person not you, you create your own story.

I played on normal difficulty, if I make a new character, then I will probably play on master, I just rarely like to dive into the hardest difficulty my first time through, because you can't just enjoy the game until you are at a high level, you have to strategically plan your leveling and equipment until you are strong enough to go out on your own. Although I would admit, that would make the game longer, but not twice as long

Considering some games give you 30-40 hour gameplay for the same money you got a great value for your money

And this is before mods and DLCs too

There is certainly nothing wrong with that, and I must admit I've been tempted at times to lower the difficulty setting, but it is that much more satisfying when you finally defeat an enemy and get some revenge after dying and reloading many times.

Not everyone enjoys that kind of gameplay where you die frequently. I would suggest; however, it is fun to make a specialist sort of character and I've noticed that combat is a completely different experience playing first as a thief/archer type and then a 2-handed warrior. Very much looking forward to playing as a mage next.

I like to split my class, with magic and stealth and combat and magic and so on.

My next character is going to be a Nightblade.

Well, i guess you CAN do the game quick if you wish. Beths own Dev Team speed run challenge took their best guy just over two hours for the MQ alone - But thats just done for a giggle and their in house trophy.

Looking at it the other way around. Skyrim has more content than Oblivion and I have well over 1000 hours on Oblivion !

Other thoughts - i bet you fast travelled all over the map, didn't you? c'mon admit it - how much did you take the time to really explore, on foot, like you really would have to. Fast travel is cheating (ha! can of worms! flame suit on) - walk it all (ok jog if you like) get into all those random fights and discoveries - if you can't be bothered, your not playing the game, just blitzing it.

Need more challenge????? Play like its for real. Like your really there (nah! don't dress up to play, ha!) i mean, in real life if a bear eats you - your dead - totally, thats it. Theres no re-set button in real life - so try the game playing 'dead is dead' if your character gets killed at any point you re-start from the very begining. Its a tough challenge, but belive me it gets the adrenaline pumping when you face off a bad ass creature and you've put 100+ hours of blood sweat and tears into that one character and can't afford to let them simply die. It really does make encounters exciting and scary - like for real..........
