411 Interview

Oh trust me I'm definitely going to get Homeworld......as soon as I get a decent gaming computer :brokencomputer:
We might be thinking of different games...
Homeworld will run on a Pentium 233MHz (still well worth getting though)
*But only play with friends, because the source code has been released.

I really could care less what kind of damage the laser does, hell it could spawn a ghoulish Tom Bombadil and I would still use it as a roleplay item only.

.....yes I understand the lore, and 1950's was where FO timeline and our Timeline Deviated, things did not stay the same, FO's timeline beyond the 50's was the outcome if the envisioned *world of tomorrow* actually came to be, that said its not like the Strip would stay exactly the same as it was built for so long. I know its not our timeline.

But it's not exactly the same as it was in 50s Vegas. None of the Casinos are exact replicas. It's inspired by 50s Vegas. So it wouldn't have stayed the same. It would be constantly being reshaped and expanded like any other city. However, due to culture and therefore architecture stagnating, it would still retain a similar aesthetic.

Seriously? How exactly? (I mean... A mini nuke like that should obliterate areas from the game )*But even so.. doesn't it take 4 or five of them to kill a behemoth?**As an experiment... Fire the Fatman at Mr. Burke in his chair in Moriarty's.

What does Mr. Burkey not die or something? Anyway, how do you know how much fissile material is contained within each mini nuke? You don't. So how can you say how big an explosion it should make? Granted, realistically it should be impossible to create such a small explosion with a nuclear weapon. There just isn't enough stuff there for it to reach critical mass. But there are tons and tons of other things in Fallout that don't make scientific sense, and yes, in the originals as well. That's why we have SCIENCE! to explain them because science says they're impossible.

Do you honestly not see how easily it could be exploited with the waiting system?

Maybe they could set it up so the recharge time was based on the "time spent playing" clock rather than the in game clock. Of course, I wouldn't expect it to take a full 24 hours to recharge, but perhaps the game equivalent of 24 hours.

@Xarnac: maybe it might be best to just take an optimists point of view on this matter

Im not complaining Im grateful for its inclusion, just stating my opinion. I just thought it would be more powerful, at least enough to one hit a deathclaw. I mean what was its role in the Great War, to marginally hinder a Chinese tank?

Hmm...
What if...
The lazor...
Did more damage for each day you wait to use it?
That way, you could either use it once a day for some good damage or wait a couple of days and use it for enormous amounts of damage. :D
Balanced?

as if it had to charge up eh? Not a bad idea, perhaps it could even over charge and hurt the player.

I would assume that would be a major reason why its not quite as powerful as everyone expected since the ease of exploitation had to be taken into account, I'm not going to fuss about it I'm quite pleased to be getting an Orbital Laser in the first place. :tops:

He dies, but many others don't.

But not about nukes.

Fallout was weird outside of town. (think about it).

Fallout 1 & 2 treated nukes seriously.

*** Not to jump ship, but this is a tangent. The thread is about the interview (which I thought was pretty good, and had interesting bits in it).

(Except IMO, I would think that previous experience with FO would lead player's to expect the "hardcoe mode" as the normal mode.)

And again Im not fussing, just surprised for lack of a better word to hear about its damage. Im a Bethesda/Obsidion F@nboy anyway, so they can do no wrong in my mind.

And? Are you proposing that there is a limit to what SCIENCE! can do? I think the entire argument is specious. Since a nuclear weapon relies on Fission and fusion, it would be safe to say that a micro-fusion reaction must occur for a mininuke to function.

Well, we already know that in the Fallout universe Microfusion cells do exist, when technically they to should be impossible as well for the same reasons that a mininuke is impossible.

I don't see how the Fat Man invalidates the power of nuclear weapons. I mean, it is a MINI nuke, and still it's the most powerful weapon and the game and is very, very capable of killing the user, especially outside of VATS.

Besides, there's tons of evidence of what the BIG nukes do in Fallout 3. So how now does this trivialize nukes?

That reminds me of the preview for one of Disney's new movies I saw the other day

"Fire the solar cannon!!!"
*nothing happens*
"Fire the solar cannon?"
"Hold on its still warming up."
"The Sun.....is warming up?"

There are exactly two nukes in the series prior to FO3, and both destroy their locations, and both are used with a tinge of irony. That the means used to destroy the world were afterward used to save it. Megaton was a whimsical jest.

yeah the moira thing never made sense to me, it isnt just radiation needed to turn humans into ghouls, its more about the FEV. So was there some stashed FEV in Megaton that we didnt know about? Also could the Master survive his ordeal with the Moira logic?

yeah I think Bethesda and a lot of newer fans forget that its the FEV that mutated everything in the wastes, not just radiation. Radiation just helped spread it because a nuke directly hit the FEV tanks.

read the fallout bible, without the FEV the ghouls would of died and not survived the radiation

an excerpt from the bible timeline
The first effects of the virus are seen in the survivors. Widespread mutations occur with animals and humans alike. Those that survive the effects of the mutations are permanently changed by the virus. New species are created almost overnight.

where, id like to read it. and even if the ghouls are just radiation effected, all the other creatures out there are because of the FEV not just radiation.

Exactly and Bethesda, the current owners of the series agree.

A massive dose of raditation can do it. No FEV involved.

FEV is everywhere, though, even if in small quantities. It's been said many times that the animal mutations throughout the wasteland were kicked-off by the FEV spread into the air...the radiation was just a catalyst. Why should ghouls be different?

If that is the case it doesn't make it any less lame. If that's canon now I think it was a bad choice.

yeah I always thought it was FEV in one form or another that did it. i dont remember anyone at Bethesda or anyone talking about it or reforming the lore.
