411 Interview

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:21 am

http://www.411mania.com/games/previews/153282/411-Interview-With-Fallout:-New-Vegas-Project-Director-Josh-Sawyer.htm a new interview. There's some good new info in there. Personally, I'm kind of worried about what was said about mods being predominantly for Guns. I really hope Energy Weapons don't get shafted by this.

No avatar awards.
Seems to me like hardly any game has them.

AL: Fallout 3 had great downloadable content support after release. Have you talked about any content for New Vegas yet?

JS: We have talked to Bethesda about continued support for New Vegas, and there are plans for DLC, but that's all I can say for now.

Looks like DLC for FONV is either under negotiation or they have a non-disclosure thing because they are focusing on the actual release... :)

Not bad.... Nothing all that new.
I think I'm ready for an interview with someone other than Sawyer. I haven't seen much from Feargus Urquhart, for example.

Archimedes won't do much more than annoy a Deathclaw? Seriously? I mean they are tough and all, but that seems like a pretty low-power orbital laser, yeah?

Pretty much all of the large AoE weapons (ARCHIMEDES II, Fat Man, Grenade Machine Gun) in the game do moderate damage over large areas. Having a hand-held "you win once a day" weapon without any regard for tactical use would be bad. Explosives (and ARCH. II) are for use against groups and will whittle down HP much more quickly than any standard single-target weapon. Against targets with less than about 150hp, all of the above will destroy the group handily. But against single high HP targets (especially if armored), it is typically much better to use weapons like the Anti-Materiel Rifle or Gauss Rifle.

All weapons are intended to have tactically sound uses and tactically unsound uses. Single high HP targets are the wrong application for ARCH. II.

Can you give us an outdoor scenario where the Fat Man would be a better weapon choice than the ARCHI?

Fire orbital laser --> Group of muties you targeted are now very pissed off --> Fat Man --> Muties are now dead.

I was worried about that orbital laser being too powerful. Glad it's not.

Sounds like the fatman has been scaled back as well, a welcome tweak...

I am happy to hear the new info about the Archimedes laser- it doesn't sound so overpowered now. This combined with its limited use and the fact that you have to make a tough choice to get it makes it a much more balanced item than I originally thought. Good show.
It could still have its place against tough enemies though. You might consider using it as an opening attack. It should deal some good initial damage and perhaps disorient your enemies (setting them on fire anyone?) to make your initial assault easier.

Um, well because.

Because Fallout is based on what people in the 1950's thought the world would be like in 100-200years? not what really happened.

Its like if the microprocessor was never invited and the entire world went in a different direction, the 1950's direction.

I have to ask, do you know much about fallout 1/2 and fallout lore?

.....yes I understand the lore, and 1950's was where FO timeline and our Timeline Deviated, things did not stay the same, FO's timeline beyond the 50's was the outcome if the envisioned *world of tomorrow* actually came to be, that said its not like the Strip would stay exactly the same as it was built for so long. I know its not our timeline.

well it′s not much ya can mod to change how energy is being projected by a gun, while a ballistic weapon like a gun can be altered quite noticeably.

AL: One aspect of the game I didn't get to see at E3 were weapon mods. How many mods will be in the game, and how many will each type of weapon be able to have on it?

JS: There are a few dozen different weapon mods in the game. Mods are used primarily on capital-G Guns, but can also be purchased for Energy Weapons and some Explosives. An individual weapon can have up to three mods.

Doesn't this cover your concern?

Good read
The Orbital laser isn't exactly how I expected but I still love it :)
and as Enduring Protectron said before
even if you try and use it against moderate enemies rather than a large weak group it
could still be a good starting assault weapon

I think Avatar rewards are pointless wastes of time. Im glad Obsidion/Bethesda didnt waste there time with them. Honestly I could care less if achievements went the way of the Dodo bird as well.

Agreed about the achievements.
However, I wouldn't mind seeing points make a comeback. Beating each other's high scores was fun back in the 8-bit days. They could reset after a while or something maybe, or maybe each area/quest has its own scoreboard?

ANYway, moving on, I'm a little disappointed about the Archimedes laser. So you can use the superweapon on low-HP targets. What's the point?
