An "abandon quest" option

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:45 am

I'm one of those people that want to complete everything in they're quest log.

But the problem is that I like to Roleplay my characters. It almost infuriates me when I see a quest that I don't want to complete, but its really really hard for me to ignore it.

Warning: Spoiler Heavy

Spoiler
Like in the quest Forbidden Legend. You get the quest by either killing a certain boss or finding a book on a guy's corpse. This is all and good, you go kill the bosses to get some pieces of an amulet. But then on the last piece, you have to get into Saarthal. Which is only done by joining the college, which my character would never do.

Also with the Quest Innocense Lost. I'm sure almost everyone has done it at least once. You can't even atempt to stop the kid. Your only option is to kill that old hag. I'd rather my character just not get involved. When someone asks him to murder, he kindly says no and gets the hell out of there. It did have a postive effect though, by being able to wipe out the DB if you killed Astrid. This I had to look up online to find out, which I hate to do.

Of course there would need to be some rules put it so people don't abuse it, like taking away all the XP and items associated with that quest.

I know there are alot of you who say "just ignore it, your don't HAVE to do it".

Your right, I don't.

But for it to just sit there and stare at me for the rest of the game is what pains me. :banghead:
I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Edit: I play on the 360, so no console for me :sadvaultboy:

Change your perception of 'joining the college'. Consider it finding out about magic, and not training in it. You don't even have to cast a spell to get in if you're creative about it. They ask you to cast the light spell to get in. After that you can do what ever you want.

I want this option badly. I have a fear of the Windhelm guards telling me about the boy trying to contact the Dark Brotherhood because I play as a warrior.

I would be delighted with such an option. I'd love to be able to clean up my quest log.

I agree, the quests I don't want to pursue are starting to pile up.. and it's cluttering my quest log..

This I did, but then they give you more quests in the college.

So its just more quests I don't want to do, but then I do them to get them off my quest log, and then I'm Arch Mage. :banghead: :brokencomputer:

I was asked to cast a Fear spell.

OCD is a terrible thing. I know first hand. So for the OCD make an "abort quest" button. Though for me, my OCD helps me find places and things in the game.

Almost every time, you can tell the quest giver no when they try to give you the quest, but not always.

I think this would be hard to implement if say you wanted to abandon the quest, but then later on try get it again. It all depends on how it is scripted. Plus, in this game, the game will assign the dungeons randomly for some quests, that could mess things up if it sets up a dungeon for another quest, then you may have two groups of enemies and bosses.

It might be better to have a Hide Quest option instead. Then you have the same result as ignoring it, but you don't have to look at them in the list.

Yes, but some times you think you may be able to do something different.

Spoiler
Like in Innocence Lost. I thought I'd be able to warn the old hag that the DB is trying to kill her, or maybe warn her nice assistant. Instead the only option is to kill her.

I would like a Hide Quest option. But have it as a button. On the screen, don't even have a header labled (hidden quests) because then its still there.

I'm crazy aren't I?

You're better off with them sitting there staring at you though. If you chose to abandon them, you'd never be able to finish them. What if you abandoned a quest, and then decided further down the line that you wanted to do it? I know, I know. You wont. But you will. I guarantee you that you'll have done that college quest another 100 hour of play down the line.

I don't understand how you, or anyone else, can play these games this way. Or not play them, that would probably be more accurate. I get that you're trying to role play a specific character, but what's the point in sticking to that role so adamantly when all it's giving you is hassle? You can do almost every quest in the game (Dark Brotherhood might be a bit iffy for some lol) with every type of character/role, just ease up on your restrictions a bit. You'll get more enjoyment out of the game, and you'll have access to more of it. It's win win.

i would also like the idea of abandon/hide quest option.

for me i dont like the automatic given quest, for example when u escape helgan and depending who you follow you get a quest to join stormcloaks or imperials. there are others like that too, like reading random books. i think it be a nice option to be able to remove them from our log books.

I see no harm in it whatsoever, as long as the game was made to recognize and accomodate for it. There are many quests i'd just as soon cancel, and you cannot refuse every quest out there.

I would like this option, but I also am a completist when it comes to TES games. I want to do and see everything in the game.

Unfortunately, you are pretty much forced to join the College if you want to complete the Main Quest in this game, too.

I don't like it either. First time a TES game has forced you into a Guild against your will.

Yes, yes, yes! TES has had problems like this since at least Morrowind where the magic list would start to grow and you'd wind up with so many spells you never used anymore because they were too weak, yet they would clutter up your menu and make it harder to get to the spell you wanted. I think it took a mod to fix that. When I play a good character I hate getting thievey or evil quests and would love to clean up my journal a bit. I wouldn't want to do them later. That's what my neutral evil Argonian assassin/thief is for.

It might be better to have a Hide Quest option instead. Then you have the same result as ignoring it, but you don't have to look at them in the list.

This would be a nice compromise. So long as I can't see em and I can actually get my journal cleared.

Thanks for the spoiler

I'm somewhat of a completionist to. But I do them on different, appropriate characters. ie: Nord warrior for the companion and stormcloak quests.

Doing everything on one character just seems wrong to me.

Exactly.

A lot of quests don't even give you an option. Like the quest Forbidden Legend. Once you find the note or book, its automatically started. And it doesn't even hint that you need to join the College to finish it.

Its just sitting there.

Staring at you.

Right into your soul.

I wouldn't care if it weren't for all these blasted quest items and the fact that they stack incorrectly. It'll soon be at a point where I'm scared to pick anything up and am overencumbered by nothing but stacked quest items I can't even free up. I'd like it if things at least stacked properly.

Yes please.

Recently I've taken to trying to clear quests without taking on any more for a while.
It does make you a bit antisocial in towns etc.

While running across the country "fields of Rohan" style, delivering books and shields and various other knick knacks, I really feel empathy for those couriers.

I wish you could hire one and send all the junk to whoever.

Say, if you've met a person you can send them an item via courier (who will always be found at the stables maybe?).
After a while (depending on the distance) you'll see "package delivered to that dude" in the top left of the screen.
Then at some point (maybe even several days later) the courier will approach and give you the payment from the quest giver?

So the price of convenience is you have to wait longer for the reward, or you can deliver it person and get yo coin straight up word.

good for a mod mebbe?
