Adding new music through CK

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 8:09 pm

This might be a mild form of threadomancy, but anyway: after much sweating and swearing, I got a plugin working. As some of you might know, you have to load the plugin as early as possible (as the first .esp in your load order).

In Creation Kit.
00 Skyrim.esm
01 Update.esm
02 YourMod.esp <--Custom music will be hexcoded 02, making them be referenced to this loadorder

In Skyrim
00 Skyrim.esm
01 Update.esm
02 YourMod.esp <-Custom music will be searched for here at 02, and found, thus you avoid the CTD.

If you want other plugins loaded before it, (mainly esm's as you can't load esp's above them), then you should create dummy esp's which are loaded before the plugin in the CK. they need to be esp's as then they won't be saved as necessary masters in the plugin file header, but the load order will still be saved.

in Creation Kit.
00 Skyrim.esm
01 Update.esm
02 Dummy.esp
03 YourMod.esp <--- Saved as 03

In Skyrim
00 Skyrim.esm
01 Update.esm
02 Another esm.esm
03 YourMod.esp < - loaded in the 03 position

When saving the plugin and trying it out in-game, the music worked, and I got no CTDs. However, opening it up in the CK again, caused the music to disappear. Therefore, I fired up TESVsnip, and added the rest of my tracks from there. Worked flawlessly! :D

Care to tell us how you did this in TESVsnip then?

Sorry for the late answer.
  • Fired up TESVSnip, and opened my plugin
  • Inside the MUST group, I added new tracks: the easiest way I found was to duplicate the existing tracks (Copy, and then Paste them into the same group, if I recall correctly). Then I pressed Edit on the new track, changed the formID, editor ID and music file (ANAM). Remember to Apply your choices every time you change anything!
  • Adding the new tracks into the Music types is easy enough: find where you want the music to play inside the MUSC group (i.e. MUsixploreReach), Edit, choose TNAM (Music Templates), press the yellow plus sign and choose your track from the drop-down list.
This is probably not the best method of doing everything, but it worked perfect for me!
