Adding new music through CK

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:11 pm

Now that the CK is out, have anyone tried adding new music yet? I took a look in the Kit, and it seems possible, at least.

EDIT: Opening my music plugin after adding the music tracks, makes the files in each track disappear.

then again there's the small discrepancy that files in the bsa are packed in the custom bethesda format, and when you look up in the CK it lists them as WAV...

I thought I had it figured out, but now it doesn't seem so after all. I added the new tracks in 'Music Track', and later chose them in the various playlists in 'Music Type'. After checking in-game, I noticed that none of the new tracks were being played. In the CK, the music tracks doesn't contain the files anymore. This happens every time I try to add new songs now - the music tracks are empty.

Can't you add music through the gamefiles?
If you can somehow convert soundfiles into .bsa you can pop them in with the rest of them, right?

I'll get the mods to move this to the CK forum. Maybe somebody can help there.

Tried renaming the wav files to something without spaces ('Nerevar_Rising' instead of 'Nerevar Rising' etc), but that didn't help. Not moving all the files to the 'Music' folder itself either.

I can't get the CK to pack any sound files (music, voice, effects, etc) into a BSA archive at all. Not sure if this is related to your issue or not but my assumption is that unless the CK will automatically BSA pack a file, it wouldn't really show up in the game.

I'm gonna assume that's another song by the name "Nerevar Rising" and not one from another awesome Beth game. As talking about putting content (including songs) from one Beth game to another will get a thread closed. >.o

Heh. Just a Youtube rendition ;) Anyway, I don't think it would be illegal to put your own music files in-game if you own both games, as long as you don't publish anything.
On-topic: Tried moving the music files into Data/Audio/Music, but the CK only picks the files from Data/Music.

@steepledhat: I'm pretty sure it's never been illegal to add Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim music to your own copy of Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim, just like adding any other custom music into the games. I've done it to both Morrowind and Oblivion.

You guys are trying to add .wav files to Skyrim? I'm pretty sure they need to be in .xwma format like the game's own music files. I converted all mine to that format long before the CK came out, and I've been waiting to add them into the game. I think I've lost the files now, though. I'm re-downloading http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=24A541D6-0486-4453-8641-1EEE9E21B282&displaylang=e&displaylang=en, which I believe was the package that included the xWMA encoder utility for converting WAV to xWMA. New music should work in Skyrim if it's in that format.

The fields in the Creation Kit only seem to accept .WAV files, strangely.

The problem is that there is no option to add .xwma files in the CK. Only .wav

Right, I found that out shortly after posting that, although what I did to get around that is just type the filename of the .xwma file into the "open" dialog and hit enter, and it would then fill that field for the music file in the CK. I don't know if it's going to actually work in-game, though; while I've saved the .esp file linking to my .xwma files, I haven't heard any of them in-game yet during the time I've played today. :/

Tried doing what you said, and the CK seemed to accept the xwm file, but after opening the plugin again, the file is gone from the track. Maybe it's a bug with the program?

Maybe; I've been playing with my new plugin all day, and I haven't heard any of my added tracks, so it could be a bug.

I think the bug is related to the following, if it's a bug

The problem is, I can't find a third party program to edit music records (it seems SkyEdit doesn't have that function yet).

Problem slightly solved, but there is still bugs. The game plays these wav files if you edit current music tracks with a new path, and also if you add new tracks in a plugin, but these ONLY PLAY IF YOU LOAD THEM IN THE SAME LOCATION AS YOU SAVED THEM IN THE CK. so if you save it after skyrim and update.esm, it will have a static 02 load order and will crash the game if loaded in any other position.

I got it to play a .wav music file in a custom worldspace that I rigged up by editting an existing Silent Track and assigning that track to the worldspace. However, after closing the Creation Kit, re-opening it, and reloading the plugin, the Creation Kit would crash every time I tried to save it again until I changed the parameters of the editted Silent Track back to its original properties.

Also, simply adding entries into the Music Track section would lead to the same effect regardless of wheter I selected a .wav file for the entry or not. The plugin would save until I closed out of the CK, re-opened it and the plugin, and tried to resave, at which time it would crash. Likewise, trying the get the game to use my new Music Track entries to play music would crash upon entering the zone. Hopefully, Bethesda will rectify that in an update.
