Advice needed. How does it make sense to play as any race ot

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:54 pm

I always like playing the opposite just to screw with the NPCs AI. In Morrowind I played a Nord and it freaked out some of the Dunmer in the Great Houses that I was Nerevar Reborn....LOL Now once I get Skyrim on PC and have better facial mods. I will play a Dunmer Dragonborn to freak out the Nords in the game..... :P

Many reason to not play Nord, first they lack tail, everybody see that this is an major drawback. Few games let you play an character with tail, WOW if you are Tauren or Dranei is the only current game I know except Elder scroll.

Secondly they are boring, you can just as well play an accountant if you work as one in RL.
Last it's to many of them, no need for one more.

Argonian = walking lizard
Dragon = flying lizard

Therefore...

Dragonborn = Argonian

SHAZAAAM!!

Just look at that http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/632985654981192417/61C5C92F2A734AB0014659EAC7CD5BE02CB98226/...

I think it is very cool how playing a different race mkaes the game feel different. My son plays a cat and a lizard and as I watch its a different feel then my nord. I think if it didnt feel different at all it would make this a lesser game.

But the Nords as a whole aren't racist. This isn't the Dunmer in Morrowind who feel like the Imperials have come in and overtaken their culture.

It's Ulfric Stormcloak who is a racist.

Now thats not true at all. When he mentions the dark elves he says that its too bad but right now he has bigger things to worry about.

And dark elves dont support the Jarl so really have no right to expect support from him. Thats how it works in a feudal society. You dont just get to buy a house because you have money. You need permission to buy and that comes from doing things for the Jarl. And thats not just Windhelm its in all cities in Skyrim.

I play a Breton because I enjoy doing so, the same was true in Morrowind and in Oblivion. What more justification is needed?

I played as a Redguard and at no point did it feel strange or wrong. The Norse culture is not my own, me being of West Indian and English/Irish descent, so being an immigrant and adopted son of the white north made more sense to me than playing as a Nord. Not that one has to stick to their own background, of course, my second character is of Dunmer extraction, but, just as others have said, the game in no way requires you to be of a certain race.

This is another case where imagination is key - your are the storyteller here, you tell the game who you are and where you came from.

I have a problem here. Need some advice.

My favorite race in TES has always been Breton.

However, in Skyrim, I just cannot make sense of playing any other race other than a Nord.

The main character is dragonborn, who weilds the ancient NORD power of the voice. Dragons are literally everywhere in Skyrim. The dragonborn has the soul of a dragon.

Everything just screams Nord as the practical choice.

I know there are many people who choose against Nords because of their loyalty to their favorite races, but I just feel like my character is a joke if I am not a Nord.

Yes, I know the word walls are where you "learn" shouts, so in theory, any race can learn to use the voice. Still, it just isn't enough to settle my mind.

Here is my other problem. When I DO, play as a Nord, I have no problem creating an Awesome looking character every time!

When I create Bretons, they never turn out looking right.

But here is the problem. Look at these links:

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to create any Nord which doesn't have these annoying cheek dimples!

I have created a Nord from every preset, and at the end, every one has these same cheek dimples. Even Nord npc's have them.

They ruin the character for me. I cannot have a battle-hardened warrior Nord in big, burly dragon armor, with these fairy dimples.

I cannot stop obsessing over them.

If there is no way to get rid of them, I am forced to role Breton. But then, I have this conflict of interest again.

NORD............PERIOD

Right, but there has NEVER been any mention of anyone (other than Nords) ever using the power of the voice.

So it would be a first time thing for any non-Nord character.

It just seems "off" for any race to use the voice, other than a Nord.
I did not know that there is no record of a non-Nord using the voice. In fact, what I said about the Nords exercising voice magic only by using the dragon language may not fit earlier lore. A Nord seems the most natural candidate for shouting, but maybe the time is right for someone of a different race to have a chance.

It makes sense that the Nords were the ones to take on the shout ability, since it was to them that it was taught (they were the ones having to deal with the dragons). That doesn't mean someone who is not Nord cannot learn it - it's just not involved in the cultures of non-Nords due to the lack of dragons to fight and learn them from, so there's no reason for there to be any record of it.

I would love to role Nord.

Make fun of me all you like, but those ridiculous dimples on the cheeks are just too much for me to be able to look past.

No other race has them.

You can make your Nord male look as ugly and mean as possible, and they are still there.

A poster above mentioned that the "jaw forward" slider possibly cuts them out, but he wasnt sure. Is anyone willing to experiment with this, and try it, and if it does remove them, take a screenshot for me?

I am at work, and then I have a doctor's appointment immediately after, so I cannot try myself.

The Dragonborn can be from any race. The power of the voice is from Dragons, not Nords. Anyone can learn it, and anyone can be born as Dova.

Here are my screens again, of my Nord.

I don't think anyone is going to try to help me, but I am asking anyway.

You pretty much are treated as a Nord regardless of which race you select.
This is my single greatest beef with the game...

Could someone PLEASE HELP ME with my dimple experiment I asked for help with above?

I do not want to role any other race besides Nord, but these dimples are ruining the game for me. I have to figure out how to get them out.

Orcs have been in Skyrim longer than the Nords (visit a stronghold they will tell you) and the fact that only the cheif is allowed to breed makes wanting to leave your stronghold and explore what the world has to offer really appealing (meaning Nords have been seeing and interacting with Orcs for as long as there has been a Skyrim), even if you desire the top job for yourself its probably a good idea to go find yourself a wife or two from else where just for gentic diversity before returning to lop daddies head off!

An Orc in skyrim is almost considered normal to Nords, unlike the relativly recent incursions of the Dummer, Kats and lizards who still appear alien and a threat to Nord culture which has already suffered the removal of their god, and lets face it its alot easier for the average Nord to vent on the Dummer ect.. than the real culprits who can and will have you imprisioned or worse.

these two small points allow me to easily rp my orc and make perfect sense within the game.

i agree that playing a Kat just feels wrong and deleted mine soon as i realised i was the only one allowed inside the strongholds, that the Dummer, Argonians ect.. would be alot more fun if you had to overcome current Nord veiws is without question, but the Humans? can't think of any examples when humans havn't had a mixed society, there is alway a small enclave or group somewhere welcome or not, you may not find a Brenton on every street corner but there will be a branch somewhere, same for the others, a goldrush in the in the Reach 150 years ago, a retied Imperial soldier that was garisioned in solitude and stayed are just two examples of how non-Nords ended up in Skyrim and see it as their homeland.
