2. This issue was reported in the beta forum and dxdiag information was collected from several users. As no further 1.5 beta builds have yet been offered, it is assumed that this issue is under investigation and did not warrant further delaying the release of 1.5.

I did notice that Ambient Occlusion was not there... everything seemed plainer but I couldn't put my finger on it until it was mentioned.

I was not so fortunate, steam has an uncanny way of re-enabling automatic updates everytime I restart my computer.

Thanks for the input. I thought it was worth putting on the main PC tech support thread since the beta thread will soon disappear, if it hasn't already.

On the Nexusforum i stumbled upon a fix, so AO is active again, just set the AO-Compatily Profile to Fallout3, works for me.

Try the tool called "nvidiainspector", it allows you to config Profiles related to games easy. There is already a Profile for ElderScoll5 Skyrim, so now edit the AmbientOcclusionCompatibility from ElderScroll5Skyrim to Fallout3.

Try Modern Warfare 3's version... it looks better in my opinion and has less of a performance drop.

Can you not just use the NVIDIA driver control panel?
Does this not expose the same settings - I'm sure I read somewhere that the settings exposed by the inspector are dependant upon the driver settings anyway...

I'm trying to set AO up with Nvidia Inspector but when the game loads, AO is visible for a brief half-second then disappears. Any advice?

That's how I had it before the patch. I'm not sure if Nvidia Inspector does more than that because you're right, it just pulls the same meta. I'm not having luck with either of them anyways.

Interesting.
See the thing is, I don't actually use the launcher anyway I directly launch from TESV - (using a different mod) - although I can still alt/shift to the steam browser and so forth so I know Steam is running in the background and it does know I have played and achievements are logged and so forth, my game also runs off an SSD, in fact if I try to launch Skyrim through the proprietary loader it won't actually load at all - (something to do with how the junctioning works I think, I just know it loads off the SSD and that's enough!).

I manually downloaded the 1.5 beta, but the official release hadn't as of this morning GMT downloaded - apparently that's because the version number of the official patch and the beta are the same.
Thing is, when I downloaded the beta it updated the original skyrim install which is on my C:\ conventional drive and not the one I play from on my SSD, so... it meant I could just copy the patch across which I did, since that was the reason I wanted to sign up to the beta anyway.
Now I don't know whether that works the same way for an automatic update - (also the SSD has a duplicate Steam directory in it which mirrors my current playing install, which was automatically created) - but since last time I checked it was working - (touch wood) - I'm not really prepared to poke about to see exactly how that all fits together!!
Suffice to say I appear to have 3 - (excluding my backup) - installed Skyrim directories of which the beta patch just updated the one I don't use...

So after 1.5 release on the 20th the game is unplayable the shadows are like a strob light and i have tried everything reinstalled the game twice chaged everything that might help updated everything nothing changed.

It is so bad that the game is unplayable and if anyone has even a slight prone to sizeres they are going to have them if they have this problem

i really think its stupid that i payed 60 buxs for this game only to not be able to play it now because this patch broke it and there is no way to roll it back or play it without updating

The option to define "Ambient Occlusion compatibility" is not exposed in the Nvidia driver control panel. You have to download Nvidia Inspector. You can get it http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.94-download-2612.html.
