FO 1 and 2?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:03 am

You don't have to. However it's recommended.

But do it, IT'S SO [censored] GOOD!
I started playing FO2 after I completed FO1 on sunday, and I am veery impressed. If you don't mind the graphics you will love it! :fallout:

The thing to be careful about when playing the old games is all the cool characters, side storylines, and faction politics are VERY EASILY MISSED unless you talk to the right people, do the right quests, and make the right choices in those quests. Although they are great games, if you want to know the background story for the universe, read the Vault a [censored]load. The games are crazy amounts of fun once you get into them but I missed a lot of storyline stuff.

I always save before going into a building or talking to a person because I just know I'm gonna mess up.
And the NPC's in Fallout 1 are freakin' psycho's, say one wrong thing and they start shooting you until you're a puddle of blood.

hey dude, I'd like to apologize for what I said earlier, umm yeah.. that was a kinda bit over the top and uncalled for :( sorry man. Also though, don't try and take on large groups when you don't know if you can or not, because if you can't then you WILL die VERY fast, turn based combat in these kinda games are awesome! lol it really adds in a lot more strategic thinking.

No problem, after all it's the internet ;)

Now I want to play FO 1, 2 & 3, DAO, ME & ME2 + all DLCs at once - this is killing me :(

Don't start playing another game when you're in the middle of one.
I did that with Assassins Creed.
Got 50% of the game then a new game arrived with the mail and I started playing that one instead.
After 2 or 3 months I looked through my games and saw AC.
I had forgotten a lot of the story and how the game mechanics worked and what button I press to jump.
So I never played it again.

It's one of the worst things you can do unless you plan to juggle two games at the same time.

Minor Spoilers perhaps........

Another word of advice; either hurry up when playing 1, or install the mod that takes the time limit away. Nothing like going through the game just to realize that you wont have enough time to get the water chip.

Mass Effect 2 svcked, avoid it like the plague. It was GOW with a dialogue system, not to mention greedy EA and their DLC racket.

Well the official patch is all he need for the time limit, the water chip is rather easy to find so it shouldn't take long.
It's doing the other stuff afterwards that might take some time.

I thought ME2 was a fun game. Not a great RPG game but a fun action-adventure-space-run-and-blast-game. :)

This. It can be buggy sometimes too. I selected the most polite dialogue options possible when talking to Aradesh, as well as doing the quests for Shady Sands, but the next time I talked to him he was furious with me.

Also I agree with this. They toned the importance of skills down from the first game, which was a bit aggravating, but the dialogue system was still good and the emphasis on choices was stronger than ever. In my opinion it was a better game in general. In terms of an RPG, it was much worse.

Hey, anyone who's playing fallout 2 for the first time.
Quit it and install this: http://falloutmods.wikia.com/wiki/Killap%27s_Fallout_2_Restoration_Project
If not, expect heavy game-breaking bugs at some point.

It does have some cut content though, so some things in there might be considered non-canon. >_>
If that's a problem for you then just download his patch instead of his mod.
That way you get a lot of bugs and glitches fixed and still have the game intact.

Oh yes. Not only does it provide necessary bug-fixes but it adds a lot of good content too.

ME2 wasnt even an RPG.

It was more like an action-adventure game with some RPG elements to it.

Btw Xarnac, I've changed my mind about ME1, it's a good RPG game but I've played better RPG's.

That's also an opinion. So is my opinion that it is a RPG. It's subjective. So let's agree to disagree. Probably not a good idea to start discussing Mass Effect any further in this thread anyway.

I actually recommend the Unofficial Patch over the Restoration Project. The RP isn't that good in my opinion.

EDIT: I should probably elaborate on that. Most of the Restoration Project contains content that was cut for likely good reasons. It's also a mod despite the fact that it adds content that was planned for the game at some point, so I would not recommend anyone use it for their first play through.

"The" mod? Is there a FO1 & 2 mod database where I could find it?

I already played ME 2 and as a huge fan of ME I was naturally disappointed. But the story is OK I guess and that's what I like about it. I'd be playing with a friends account - the svcker bought every single DLC :>

But I'll concentrate on FO 1, 2 and 3 considering that there's only one month left. I'll wait for some decent mods anyway so I'll probably start playing FNV in December.

I'd rather not spoil FO1 with a mod. The time limit isn't all that harsh, and you can increase it in the game already.

Hello All,

I played FO3 at length, but not 1 and 2.

Do I need to play these to better understand / enjoy New Vegas?

Thanks,
R

I would because the games are kickass, play 1 if you want immersion, play 2 if you want dark humor and a really fun game.

you can buy them http://fallout.gamesplanet.com/game-fallout-trilogy2-interplay.html

I have a fast computer so when I go from vault 13 to vault 15 it's 20 days, I'd get the mod to be safe

Suit yourself, then.
The time limit is part of the game and.... hey, what has your computers speed got to do with the ingame traveltime?

Indeed. To be perfectly honest I can only see the time limit being a problem if you go randomly exploring around the wasteland. There's no point to doing that in the original Fallouts. You can get directions to every settlement and if you don't know where a location is you probably haven't fully explored all the dialogue options you have or you aren't meant to be there yet.

I don't know the details in depth (about the cut content), but as I recall, Fallout 2 was supposedly on an very tight schedule and they found themselves weeks away from shipping and had still not worked on some areas of the game, nor finished some others, and there was a scramble to get it all done. This might account for lots of things being cut from the game.
