I always use Facebook over any other way of communication. Or Watsapp. Anything which is free is ace to me!

Why are we even talking about the merits of Facebook? Frankly, I'm more interested in the Anonymous attack on it. Whether Facebook is a good or bad medium of communication is a tired argument and somewhat irrelevant in my opinion.

Does anyone actually have an idea for how they could take it down? I'm struggling to see a possibility to take down something so huge.

Short of physically destroying the servers that host Facebook (which I assume are owned by Facebook), or infecting them with some sort of virus/corrupting the data on there, I'm not sure. Someone did manage to destroy pretty much all the data on one of the Taliban's websites, so I suppose it's possible, but as to how I don't know.

If they can access the databases, then they must have access to the scripts, change those scripts to introduce spam or delete the scripts altogether.
Or
If they can access the code behind the website, like what the post button does, they could have all these buttons link to diferent things, bad site or just have them do something wrong.
The chaos could be endless

I'm sure they don't do what they do to make friends anyway.

A "normal" person would have no need to use it since they'd be outside talking to people or on the phone.

Or alternatively, a "normal" person would have no need to use the phone since they'd be outside with their friends.

Yeah just wait till that dislike button gets here lol

Maybe thats how they'll destroy it (i) They'll add that dislike button that people have been asking for, that'll show the designers not to mess with events !

Please, how does it work ?
From how I use facebook, telling people what I'm doing, showing drawings / animation etc, setting up the odd event and communicating with people.
Most of this I could do by text, phone, MSN, email, face-to-face or even sent a letter.

I somewhat agree with you, I've recently connected with my old friends from my old town that I've not seen in 5 years. But seeing what they've became over the years has led me to have a very negative opinion towards them. Also, seeing the "true colours" of the people around me has led me to the same opinion. But it does root out those people that you never expected to be just like you

I'm socially awkward, last summer when I got Facebook and Twitter I became... well, social. I got actual friends, went outside, got a girlfriend, etc... If I never joined I'd still be a hermit that played Halo all day, costing mother and father a fortune in electricity bills :P Not entirely so much the case of recently after my girlfriend broke up with me I've returned to what I used to be quite a bit. Not to get too personal, but basically seeing other people tweeting and making statuses makes me feel less lonely.

Back on topic: I don't see anything coming out from this. Facebook will survive and continue to operate methinks. Anon can go to hell, same with LulzSec. I used to follow their tweets and it was almost cult like.

I don't like facebook and I dont like hackers.
Facebook needs shut down because too many people are sitting infront of it day in day out thinking their cool and social when really its an anti-social site thats forgot the definition of privacy and going outside. People can't live normally unless they have been on facebook for atleast an hour a day and its disgusting. Farmville aswell !!
Hackers, wannabe gangsters of the cyber world, load of crap these people need to go out, get a job, get some sun, get human friends that aren't connected to their machines. They all remind me of Rat from the film Core, I so how this is what they all look like but deformed like the Hunchback of Notradam :D

Right. I really don't like this attitude - that old fashioned "getting out of the house" is the cure for everything. I was never able to make friends IRL, so I make them online. Without the internet I'd be a very lonely, sad and bored person. Just because someone has a different lifestyle than you doesn't entitle you to make sweeping generalizations about how "disgusting" we are and what YOU personally believe we should be doing with our lives - it really doesn't affect you in any way so I feel kinda bad for you that you're so upset about what other people choose to do with their time...

Wow try not take anything personally my little fragile one.
I did not in anyway directly attack you so don't try it with me, hermit.
So your trying to tell me you don't have a single friend in this world that wasn't met through facebook ?
I'm not upset about what other people do with their time, no merely disappointed

Am I upset with the way people post on these forums in an attempt to demean other members? No, merely disappointed.

I am closing this for a while to have a look through, it won't be opened until after I have eaten so no rush to check it out.
