Anonymous Threaten to Kill Facebook on Bonfire Night!

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 6:40 am

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/anonymous-well-kill-facebook-bonfire-night-091100029.html

Not sure how they are planning on doing it, short of physically blowing up the (many) servers facebook is on, or some other sort of non DDOS related attack. Because a DDOS will kill it for the whole of 5 minutes or so.

Not too bothered if they do kill it, as I'm planning on moving to Google+ anyway.

Either way, it seems a little unnecessary.

Discuss!

Remember, remember, the 5th of November...

Sorry, had to be done.

They're taking this whole Guy Fawkes thing a bit far now, don't you think? The masks were kind of cool, but now basically stealing the plot out of V for Vendetta? Right then...

This has been majorly downplayed and it turns out it's not actually going to happen.

I don't like facebook and I dont like hackers.
Facebook needs shut down because too many people are sitting infront of it day in day out thinking their cool and social when really its an anti-social site thats forgot the definition of privacy and going outside. People can't live normally unless they have been on facebook for atleast an hour a day and its disgusting. Farmville aswell !!
Hackers, wannabe gangsters of the cyber world, load of crap these people need to go out, get a job, get some sun, get human friends that aren't connected to their machines. They all remind me of Rat from the film Core, I so how this is what they all look like but deformed like the Hunchback of Notradam :D

There are people that use it like a "normal" person and depend on it in many cases... you can't stereotype everyone that uses Facebook as some anti-social hermit. Might as well ban video games with that reasoning.

This. I have a facebook, but I only use it for party invitations and to keep up with friends (mostly only the ones I don't see very often, like people living in America).

Honestly I got bored with Facebook about a year or two ago.

I only use it for work-related stuff these days.

They can't kill Facebook, how would we get all that absolutely vital information about what everyone had to drink last night, and how bad their hangovers are today?

They should kill FarmVille and all that crap, not Facebook itself. That rubbish is making FB eat itself anyway.

One day Guy Fawkes / V for Vendetta will become what GTA is to gun violence.

A "normal" person would have no need to use it since they'd be outside talking to people or on the phone.
I see no reason for anyone to depend on facebook apart from the creator since its his income.

This is one of the many things that annoy me about it. They type up before they leave, "Gonna get pure wrecked the night yass" and then predictably the next morning "Aww that was a really bad idea, not doing that again." only to see the next weekend a repeat of what was previously posted, its an endles loop of lies!
They can be that hungover if their able to get onto facebook for hours, maybe its actually the computer thats hurting their heads and not the hangover :P

Why is it normal to use a phone but not facebook?? Your opinion of "normal" is obviously different from someone else's. Besides, what's wrong with being abnormal??

Obviously you need a lesson on how Facebook actually works.

And since the creator of Facebook is estimated to be worth $13.5 billion, I don't think he needs to spend any time anywhere near it.

Your actually speak out loud and not typing away to someone, typing what you think is alot easier than saying it out loud keyboard gangsters for example who wouldn't mock you in person but are more than happy to complain about you from behind the screen. ( I know I'm doing that something similar just now ).
Yeah we're all going to have different opinions on the matter, I accept that and won't try to change anyones.
Ok I flung everyone in the same boat reading back but there are still too many people using and relying on it in their daily life.
Abnormal isn't normal thats whats wrong, is that reason enough ? :icecream:

Yeah there are a lot of people that are, for lack of a better word, addicted, or even obsessed with it. But not everyone is, and it does come in very handy for organizing group events etc. and for discussing things in groups when you can't all be face to face.

Back to the article in the OP though, I've never heard of any connections between Facebook and the Egyptian/Syrian governments.

Please, how does it work ?
From how I use facebook, telling people what I'm doing, showing drawings / animation etc, setting up the odd event and communicating with people.
Most of this I could do by text, phone, MSN, email, face-to-face or even sent a letter.

One thing I dont get is, why is facebook so "cool" when really its just a plain version of bebo combined with MSN but with one or two tweaks.

If they can keep it down for 3-5 days it'll be hilarious to see the people's reactions who are on there for 5+ hours/day. :disguise:

The only link I could imagine with those goverments is the revolts that took place, since IIRC they were started as events on facebook that grew into large numbers

Why aren't you out socializing?! :hubbahubba:

I'll be the first to admit that I do over-use Facebook. Quite horribly even, I probably check it multiple times an hour over my phone and keep it as my start-up page (or well, one of them). On the other hand, a few years ago I was an anti-social, introvert gamer who rarely met anyone besides my family. In the last few years I'd like to think I've improved my social life quite massively, and I've also during this time embraced Facebook the way I have. Now I definitely don't think Facebook has had anything to do with my improved social life. My point is rather that I don't think it's been detrimental to it either.

Works both ways. And "cool" is a very subjective word.
