yeah its worse than ever, the thing is they obviously intended to let us decorate by moving items, but they also made it allmost impossible to get anything where you want it, the potions being the worst for me so far, man so infuriating yet so satisfying when done, nicely

You do it because you want to, you do not have to do it. I do agree that it is not easy though, my bee-in-a-jar now lives under the kitchen table!

I'm playing New Vegas now and god I can't believe how easy it is to place things after playing Skyrim. Like you, I keep at it no matter how frustrating it is. I find potions the easiest to do actually, once they stay put. You can grab them by the top and stand them up.

I gave up decorating the home already in Oblivion. Now I only use the containers dividing the loot by type.

I don't think real world physics add anything useful in a game like Skyrim. In Morrowind bodies fell flat on slopes but it wasn't an immersion breaking situation (oddly enough, some earlier games like Unreal had some sort of primitive collision detection and bodies would slip down or fall against walls)

I would gladly trade rag-doll physics for the ability to place items everywhere. But them, there would be someone crying that a 2011 game without physics is unconceivable.

I spent ten minutes decorating my table with Dwemer plates, bowls, knives and forks. The next time I loaded my game, half of the items were on the floor. Decorating was so much easier in Morrowind.

I loved decorating my houses in Morrowind, but in Oblivion and Skyrim I no longer bother. It's far too much of a pain now and things don't stay where you want them.

Ah the intense rage caused by carefully stacking books for 10 minutes then knocking the whole lot flying. The new number one cause of aneurisms in gamers.

The trick is to save after you accomplish anything, no matter how small.

I've played a couple of times before and I love it too. I'm planning on doing all the DLC this time around.

I like decorating my house, but life is too short to do it in Skyrim.

It's sad that people have given up. I wonder if it bothers the developers at all. It seems they've decided not to fix it. Odd.

yeah number one rule is to save after every little move and change, lol, and yeah it does seem like beth dont want us to decorate, its allmost like there trying to tease us, they gave us the tools but made it near on impossible, i mean ive just been sat here trying to bet a human skull on my mantle peice for like 20 minutes, its not a problem getting it on the mantle peice but trying to turn it is another question

Does saving fix everything in place? I spent twenty minutes arranging the Breezeway to have everything magically fly off in different directions the next time I went in.

Yes, (quick-) saving sorta makes sure items stay in place.
I don't decorate that much anymore, because it still can be a pain in the *ss.
But I use a few tricks:

- when you drop an item from your inventory and move it somewhere else, the item tends to return the spot it got dropped, after reloading...so I make sure my cursor is at the spot where I want the item to be, before dropping it from my inventory.

- when lifting an item, and placing it somewhere, I do a quick-save, and then a quick-load to check whether it will move after reloading. If it's still there, it will stay there, no doubt.

p.s. l have a high-end pc, so quick-loading takes only a couple of secs....if your machine needs more time, I suggest not to use this method :P

The only decorating I've done, (apart from the usual purchases from the Jarl's Court), is to pick something up if I find it on the floor and place it on a shelf or something. I even do it in shops or markets where items are about the place, (being careful not to accidentally steal said items!) Generally I leave the tidying at home to my Housecarl though. I made a right mess in Breezehome once when I tried the Wabbajack "fix" on Lydia. In every single room there were items scattered all over the place. When I returned some time later it was all tidy.

EDIT: However, seeing some of the photos of peoples' work, I think I might have to have a go at this, as it does look good. :)

I really liked to decorate my two homes in Oblivion, but I was using the help of a mod that made it A LOT easier and was able to permanently lock the items in place. I'm really sad that stuff like that has not come to Skyrim yet.

It's a pain, really. Placing stuff on the floor, then leaving, saving, re-entering and THEN placing it where you want it makes it stay put most of the time. But actually PLACING stuff where you want it has become even harder than Oblivion :(

yeah why when i put something down, like i tried putting down a basket then filled it up with ingrdiants wich took ages, i then left came back and it was moved all over the place, its madening, allmost makes me wanna punch something, thats how bad it feels, i took so much time and effort sorting all that out made it look nice wich takes alot of patence. then they just throw it all over the place when im gone.
