Is Anyone Else Upset That You Can't Marry Hadvar?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:20 am

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with doing this. I've been doing it FOR YEARS and it isn't because I dont wont to look at a man's ass for hours. Has this world gone so damn anol that simple reasons are seen as lies? Maybe some men APPRECIATE women and express that by playing one in a VIDEO GAME. EVER thought about THAT?

Is there any woman out there that understands... cause it seems like there is none..
I find it kind of quirky but overall, I don't have an issue with it. In terms of Skyrim, I can see wanting to play a female character over a male one even if you're a dude. Most of the guys look like feet, especially the Nords. I don't TOTALLY relate to it since the dudes I spend all my time staring at are off and away from Skyrim, but I get where guys come from on the issue I guess.

@Terra Nova - I'm not opinionating on it since I honestly don't know why they do. None of the men I know personally who play WoW or Skyrim play fem toons, and THEY seem rather put off by men who do - but there are lots and lots of men who are "forum acquaintances" of mine (hundreds over the years) who only play fem toons. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it.... and in fact, I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all. I perhaps didn't finish the thought properly.

Well, my best buddy played Guildwars together with me, and he played both male and female characters. I tended to be a lot nicer and more generous to him whenever he was playing one of the females. Silly, I know.

I have no problem playing either six, tend to play female's. My husband tend's to play male character's, even when he get's a choice. When I asked him he just said it's what he's used to from all the FPS's that he play's. Very few of them ( or at least the one's he's gotten ) have female "leads". He did say that if he'd thought about it, their were a couple time's he would have much rather stared at a female's backside than a man's, but he didn't realize that those particular game's were in 3rd person alot of the time.

Females and males do get treated differently in online games.
This is sickeningly true. When I played MMOs the only time I played a female was if I played a class that used graceful attacks (ie assassin; dual wielding dagger types) because it looked a little more natural for a chick to be dance-fighting. Anytime I 'met' a new person in the game my second or third sentence to them was that I was a guy just so there was no misconception that I was playing a chick for some sixual bent (yes, a lot of guys do this ) or to get more people to help me and/or give me stuff. Even after I told them I was a dude they still helped more and tried to give me stuff than on my male characters. :P Actually, in my last MMO, for my avatar for forums I actually pulled my hair up in ponytails (similar to my character) and put make-up on for the pic to make a ridiculous point. In that last game I married a chick who was playing a dude.

It makes the world feel a little less lonely. It's not as involved as marriage in Fable II and III, but it's OK.
Considering http://angryjoeshow.com/2011/01/top-reasons-fable-iii/ I take that as a good thing.

For some reason, I now have a mental image of Paartunax wearing these tavern clothes.

... sixy.
 Well at least he wouldn't be naked anymore?

I'm the opposite.... I really dislike the "chainmail bikini" stuff that artists and writers foisted on us for so long.... While I'm not at all "modest" IRL, I AM a total "realist" (as much as possible in a FCRPG) about armor for my toons. Whatever it is, it absolutely better cover completely.

You realize that now you have to link that pic? ;)

I think Vent evens everything out now in MMOs. Even though I'm a female playing a female there are still times when new people are mildly surprised when they hear a female voice in Vent because I think these days everybody is cautious enough to think all players are male until proven otherwise. :P (Even though females playing games is just as common as males).

But people are also very visually oriented, and in a pick up group without Vent I got the feeling that other players were not as polite or easy going with my male toon. I didn't play him much, and it was mostly because it felt like a lie somehow. :P

Offhand, I don't think I know any guy who plays a female because they wish they were female in RL. Like most things, the real reasons why are always more complicated and interesting (or mundane, as the case may be).

Anyone know where Hadvar hangs out if you don't follow him out of Helgen, and you don't choose a side in the Civil War?

Speaking of Vent: my 'husband' and I used to make off-color comments back and forth related to our ingame genders.

He's not in Gerdur's house? I'm pretty sure Ralof was in and about Alvor's house in the game in which I followed Hadvar.

Edited for usage.

In writing and talking 'good' there are elements of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage. I must've used the wrong form of a word and then corrected it. :P

Oh, gee, I forgot, sitting on your ass and watching a video is HARD. My bad. Lemme just write it down for you.

It's not about being lazy. It's about not wanting to expose myself to some ass who just wants attention because they happen to dislike 32 things in one game. Similarly I don't the Kardashian shows.

Very nice! I got a laugh out of the first two (though the second one is also right on in a "realist" way), and the third is just plain real in a GREAT way! That's the sort of thing I'd like to see in games.... well.... without the skirt. I really do NOT want my fighters sporting skirts - and it's not because I think it's a female "put down" - it's because in battle, flapping bits make ZERO sense.... No cloak, no skirt, bottom of tunic strapped close with leather to legs, boot tops rolled all the way up and leather-strapped close - or better, tied to the leather strapping the tunic to the thighs....

I watched that video...all of it... and I wasn't kidding about needing an asprin after watching it either. A list would have been much much better... I really don't need all the cussing and fussing just to say what wasn't liked about a game.

There was cursing in the video? Well, that violates the forum rules...perhaps the poster should be reported to a Mod.

Whatever can we just talk about Star Trek again? I didn't derail from that to get the thread re-derailed over something so silly.

Thanks for the help, but I've just searched every building in Riverwood plus I ran to Helgen to double check Helgen Keep. No Hadvar. :(

I will have to resort to console commands I fear.

Not exactly the predicament you had, but on my current character, I followed Hadvar out and chose to join the Stormcloaks long enough to get the Jagged Crown to turn in to Tulius. I got to the tomb with Galmar and all, but Ralof wasn't there. I got the crown, gave it to the General, went to do the Battle for Whiterun, and there was Hadvar despite my initially choosing the Stormcloaks.

Basically, whichever man (Ralof/Hadvar) you don't follow out of Helgen apparently dies.

I just checked Riverwood and couldn't find Hadvar anywhere. However, the blacksmith's wife (and I'm assuming the blacksmith, but I never found his body) was killed by a dragon attack. The child is still there, but the parents are definitely gone - maybe he 'leaves' if they are killed. I could've sworn I saw him wandering around town early in my game though.

Edited for accuracy.

I got the names mixed up. Basically when I followed the Stormcloak guy to Riverwood the Imperial guy was also in Riverwood.

I have always been very careful about never letting anyone die. Every other NPC (including Ralof) are where they're supposed to be in Riverwood.

I have a feeling this is correct. Guess I will have to try a moveto.

Edit: Aye, he's not in my game at all. :( So much for him being good looking and for having a good voice.
