Anyone feel like the wasteland is more dangerous?

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 12:27 am

I noticed that the wasteland seems a lot more dangerous to be honest.. like getting to my destination alone i run into a bunch of rad scorpions and ghouls along with other things that i dont want to spoil for other people.

And with the fact that (i think) the leveling is faster in this game all these run ins are leveling me up fast

e.g. Molerat = 10xp

any thoughts on this?

Lets TRY to keep any possible spoilers to a minimum please and thank you.

Not really. I died all over the place the first time I played Fallout 3. Give it time. After a few playthroughs you will be able to run around the wasteland naked with a knife and kill everything. :P

I think this has a lot to do with FO3's scaling system being scrapped.
Now you'll find creatures of various levels roaming around regardless of what your level is.

Nope.. i don't know how much you've played and how much you've wandered around, but there is A LOT of creatures and some of them hit decent when you're just starting out... luckly i had like 20 stimpaks after raiding doc's place LOL or i woulda died a few times already.

This makes the game all the more entertaining. But, I think that leveling up fast is kinda lame. I want MORE hours. Not less.

For the slowest leveling possible, I'll play on Very Easy, where blasting a low level creature earns +1 XP to give you an idea. It takes a lot longer to level up that way, though the game makes your character nearly unstoppable.

You're correct it doesn't. I just don't understand how killing a mole rat can give me 10 xp then killing a feral ghoul will give me 10...

as well, killing a person (an enemy from a faction for example) can give you 25xp then killing a nightkin gives the same?

I just personally think the xp rewards are messed up.

I'm playing on normal and I agree. I've gotten really good at rock climbing and protecting myself sniper-style.

I ran into a Deathclaw...died twice, went around him. He's still there. :o

I'll get him later when my character/weapons are stronger.

Whrere are all the Sensor Modules!!!!??

Safe travels. :D

I'm level 5 yet to see a deathclaw though. And i haven't died.. though the nightkin really did a number on me.

I can actually admit ive never seen a deathclaw in my fallout career, i bet it's because they're scared of me :toughninja:

yea its more dangerous for lower levels now, i decided to do some adventuring after leaving goodsprings and within 5 minutes ive got a giant radscorpion on my tail, i thought fast and jumped on top of a big rock and took it out oblivion style, nearly used all of my ammunition on it before it finally kicked the bucket. after cautiously moving forward and dealing with a much smaller radscorpion i found a sign stating "warning deathclaws ahead" which turned my level 2 blood cold and ran for the nearest highway and continued forward where now all i have to worry about is them gang members, .357 magnum can work miracles agains them lol

I'll just say a few words on the subject:

CAZADORS

Hell yeah the wasteland is more dangerous. The last time I felt I encountered an enemy that made me back-peddle this fast was feral ghoul reavers. In fact, give me those back in place of cazadors. They would be easier at 7th level.

Even the beginning enemies have ways of tricking you.
Spoiler
I remember doing a quest early on (I think it was a random encounter) where a guy told me to go save his girlfriend from some geckos up on a ridge near Goodsprings. I came up the ridge and saw just a couple of geckos wandering around and thought, "Well that's lame." Then I saw three more start running up the ridge so I chased after them, only to get ambushed from behind by about three or four more. Of course, it was pretty easy work with a shotgun, but since I had just started the game a couple of hours before, I didn't have much ammo either, so it could have been a close fight.

It sure does feel harder, and I don't get the feeling I will own everything in a little while. My character feels meek when traveling through the wilds, kinda like wandering around Alaska in Bear Country, you have to be careful! In FO3 I was careful then I accumulated a ton of stim packs, it was not long until I went head long into trouble with out a care in teh world. Now? Now I run and don't look back... =P

To me, so far, it doesn't feel as dangerous as F3. It's just so much brighter and lively to me, not so grim and desolate.

As an 'explorer' type player, it seems much more dangerous to me. Those giant radscorpions are nasty, and I ran into a super mutant master at level 6...That did not go well.

I've also noticed that enemies seem to be, at least in some cases, a LOT faster than their FO3 counterparts (the Master running at me with a sledgehammer was terrifying). With a gun-centric character it adds further difficulty.

I don't think it is more dangerous but it is a hell of a lot more populated. I could go on huge trips in Fallout 3 and not run into that many creatures but in New Vegas every trip I have taken I have encountered many creatures! It is awesome, makes it more realistic .

The difficulty I've found is when that shield appears to show they have armor. I really need to read up on the function of armor.
