Anyone Find the Amulet of Gauldur Disapointing?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:08 am

Hey all,

I finally completed the quest "Forbidden Legend", and found the final reward a little less rewarding than I anticipated...

The quest is a miscellaneous quest, triggered once you find one component of the final reward, an amulet. The initial fight is tough, but doable. But you then need to go researching where the other components remain, and once you do that, both of the other components are deep in mufti-level dungeons protected by bosses, minions, and so-forth. Finally a 3rd dungeon needs to be crawled, and 2 more puzzles and 3 more bosses later, and you get your reward, an amulet that does Fortify Health, Magika, and Stamina by 30.

On the one hand, the reward itself is lackluster. I took my time, and probably spent over 3 hours doing it. Even if I rushed through, I bet it would have taken at least an hour to complete.

On the other hand, the whole back-story of the the amulet has to do with these three sons of a king who killed their father for it, and then became unstoppable, necessitating an entire army of imperial battle-mages from the high-king to take them down.

The whole back-story is packed full of stuff about how powerful it is, and how important it was that it remain buried for all time, and that all the events that happened should be struck from every record so that no one can never find it.

+30 Health, Magika, and Stamina? Really? That made it necessary to use an entire army of battlemages???

Meh.

Yea, felt a bit light on the reward end - thought there would be more to it. I will say that last fight was a lot of fun though!

Yeah, overall the quest was indeed fun!

I enjoyed the puzzles and some of the fights such as the last were really great. I just couldn't get over the idea of the High King ordering a regiment of battlemages to take down these three guys each had 1 part to an Amulet that did +30 health, magika, and stamina.

I did find a lot of great loot along the way, but it was all loot. Nothing I'd keep and use on my character.

Heard the amulet is not removed with another amulet equipped on top of it. That while likely a glitch is a nice bonus to me

Probably not designed to work this way, but you can equip it on top of other amulets. Became useful after I learned that.

Sometimes it's about the trip there and not the reward. :P

I found the questline amazing. The boss fights are very good.

The reward. Pretty much crud. His 3 sons killed him for this?
I understand they dont want to give out a reward that puts you in god mode, but shesh I can craft a better amulet than this!

Note to self. keep and eye on the kids if I ever make anything of value.

Yes it was very disapointing, if the stats were doubled I may consider using it, but as it stands it's junk

i think the glitch....is now canon. cause that makes it a lot better if you can have it as an extra three levels. of each attribute!

While not an amulet that would leave you so powerful you would lay waste to entire cities or whatever, it's still one of the best amulets you could get ingame. I see stamina, magic, and health amulets at around the same magnitude, so to have all three in one is pretty sweet.

So, I think it is powerful and not too disappointing.. if it were as powerful as the texts described it it would be wildly unbalanced.

I just finished this quest and same thing for me. It does not stack on another amulet.

I'm going to get a mod for this amulet as soon as I can, or mod it myself if I have to. The lore makes it sound like one of the most powerful artifacts in existence.

I agree with the OP 100%. Sheesh, just go to the local shop and buy (or steal) a better amulet. I also recently made 100 Enchantment and selected the Dual Enchant option. AFAIC I can make a better amulet. And so could the devs.

They could have at least upped the power of the effects when the fragments were combined. There could have been a fourth element to the combined amulet. There could have been secondary elements of the fragments, hinting at the combined amulets power. And if they did? This more adequate amulet would still not be a game changer in the least.

The entire back story does not jive with the resulting amulet. I'm finding it hard to avoid using derogatory statements.

If this is all about the journey vs. the reward, it is unlikely I will ever do this quest again. I don't need the gold and no collected treasure throughout the entire journey was notable. I didn't do it for the reward! I did this quest to find out what was so important about this amulet that names had to be stricken from history; that hidden and secured burial chambers had to be constructed. Lame.

This

I find it hard to believe that a 30 pts bonus to Health, Magicka, and Stamina could improve one's fighting prowess so as a whole group of imperial battlemages is required to keep up with it (with one fighting one of the BEST imperial battlemage of the time to death)

Not to mention that the amulet were divided between the three, meaning either each of them gets 30pts to one of the attributes of each got 10pts bonus for each attribute

Which makes it even more lame when I see the bonus

it would make more sense if it increases my magic power, but... meh

I haven't gotten a single quest reward that was any good yet. It's really a problem of the way the game scales and how wildly unbalanced crafting is. It really takes some finn out of the game when you know for a fact you're never gonna find some totally amazing loot/reward.

[censored] I went into a dungeon and retrieved the legendary Jagged Crown that was so incredible it was thought to be entirely a myth! I fought a Dragr Deathlord one on one after after he destroyed everyone who came with me. I finally retrieved the mythical crown, return it to Ulfric so he can claim his place as high king! What did I get in return? A [censored] sword with a flame enchantment and the right to BUY a house. Thanks you [censored] dike, I give you a priceless artifact and you can't even give me the house? I still have to pay for it?

Lol nothing jives with the Lore dude.

I only did it for the challenge. Boy that archer boss is an ass to take down. I mean seriously 6 Fus Ro Dah's everytime. WTF. Not to mention the ridiculous damage the 6 ebony arrows does as it pumps them into you CONSTANTLY while you are down. :swear:

I think I was level 52 when I complete this quest. The end battle was easy. I used Mehrunes' Razor as it was the least damaging blade in my inventory; working on One-Handed skill. (I left the Nightingale Blade at home as I was level 46 when I got it and the blade can't be upgraded at level 46.)

There was only one problem. The first time a shout was used against me, it knocked me up onto the platform where all the ghosts are standing. The engine would not let me jump or shout to get down so I had to reload.

It does have a nice little bonus, but honestly, not really worth the trouble you take to get it. still a fun little quest and some challenging battles.

I did this quest fairly early in the game. I was wearing full glass, and running a glass bow, which helped, but I died on each boss trying to figure out their weaknesses. At level 20 or so, this amulet is much more useful. Once you get to the higher levels, one with sneak, magic protection, or archery enchantments become more necessary anyway. It's a good early quest, but pretty much a grind and find later....

The first time I did it I found it early and it was really nice. The second run through I came on it late and already had double enchanted gear so it was a downgrade.

Yeah, do this quest very early, and the amulet is not so worthless... 9 free levels worth of stats is pretty good for a low-level char. For high-level chars, I agree this amulet is not so incredible. :)

I rather like it, I use it pretty much on all my characters. I found the quest rather easy so the reward reflected that.

I used it endgame. However on most of my characters I almost never remember to equip my jewellery after changing back from were form.
