If it's an alien from another planet, why would it look anything like a human? The big eyed, big head alien is just a typical human imagining of what an alien would look like, so I'm automatically skeptical of anything fitting that description that's supposedly "alien".

DNA testing should have been done before coming to the conclusion that it isn't of this world.

That's not how probabilities work, you don't just take 100% and divide by the number of possible options.

Can we please just say that categorically, it is NOT an alien. I've seen more than enough hominid fossils and birth defects to know that. It's almost certainly an infant human that either went through skull elongation as mentioned before, or suffers from birth defects.

Well obviously I know that.

My intent was to say that anything is possible as far as lifeforms go. There could be life on Mars for all we know, it may just be undetectable by human beings in some way or another.

I wasn't trying to say 50/50 it's a humanoid or it's something else, I wasn't going to type out "Well it's a 12 percent chance it's a salad monster, 6 percent chance it's a Half-goose-moose hybrid, 10 percent chance it's a flying robot with antlers, etc...".

Great, I lost my alien skull the other day. Where can I go pick it up?

This still doesn't answer the question! Why does the "baby" have MOLARS?

Because it's an alien. Clearly, the only logical explanation.

I got Britney Spears's sideboob from that. :/

@Dalek: I posted a link to Progeria a while back - kids get some severe signs/symptoms of ageing despite having small bodies and what look like quite distinctive skulls (I heard that's what the starchild skull was in the end, but I'm not sure). Maybe that would cause it to have molars too?

This still doesn't answer the question! Why does the "baby" have MOLARS?

Because it's an infant whose molars have erupted.
Because it's skin decayed allowing the not yet emerged teeth to show through.
Because it's a man suffering from extreme dwarfism.

Well if it is an alien, it looks pretty humanoid. Maybe humans aren't done evolving?!?!?

What, you are never done evolving, we are all evolving right now. It's not a process that just stop anyways.

They haven't genetically tested it to determine if it is even an alien.

And then they say that it has a soft spot on its head, somethign human babies have but its an advlt, well if its a [censored] alien its not playing by the same rules as baby humans.

I'm pretty sure that I have seen somewhere that things can stop evolving (there may even be a term for it), you evolve to survive not just for the hell of it. Point is, it was a joke, but anyway I would say homo-sapiens would still be evolving as some predict overpopulation could kill some of us out, so evolving to survive those circumstances could occur, well unless world-wide genocide occured!

I'm going to stick with physics on this one: interstellar travel is impossible.

Add common sense: even if an alien species was capable of it, it would be such an effort that they wouldn't come here for just for a picnic, there'd be a lot of evidence found of them.

Add Occam's Razor for good measure: there's a lot of much more propable explanations than aliens for this, many mentioned in this thread already.

Therefore, not an alien. Next mystery? :hehe:

No doubt there are intelligent alien species out there, but they are stuck in their solar systems like we are in ours.

This.

As far as I understand it the closest known planet that could be habitable, Gliese 581 g, is a good 20,5 light years from Earth, and with spaceships not being capable of going even at the speed of light (granted we can get pretty close, however due to our mass it would be impossible to truly reach that speed without disintegrating into tiny particles) it takes even longer to get there. And even with that this planet only could support life and even if it had life then what would the chances of it having any sort of truly intelligent life on it be ?

It could be many hundreds of light years to the next planet with intelligent lifeforms and even if it was only a single hundred light years, then who would be willing to spend his or her entire life traveling there ? Heck even if aliens had longer lifespans then it would still be something not to be desired since it would still be 100+ wasted years just traveling to a planet (and let's not forget the trip home...) which no one would put themselves through especially for simple reasons such as just visiting, if an alien had ever come here it would be on a mission of a larger scale than fickle feeling of curiosity and a need to visit new places.

Even if we think about them being able to freeze themselves until they've finished the trip it would still be a bad decision, unless they could somehow persuade the entire rest of their planet to do the same... imagine going to sleep and waking up 100 years later when everyone you know is either dead or has forgotten about you.

And so one can go on, basically the gist of it is the following. With the world being so massive there probably are aliens out there that can match or even out-perform the intelligence of humans, but no matter how smart they are they can't change the laws of physics, only use them for their purposes like we do, so it would take far too long to travel between planets for it to be worth it. So even with aliens to match us in intelligence we would never travel to them and they would never travel to us. So there have never been any aliens here on Earth, there are no aliens here on Earth, and there never will be any aliens here on Earth.

Species evolve through breeding over generations, so I can safely say that none of us right now are evolving. Unless we're pokemon...
