Archery is really weak and I don't know why

Xbox did get an update yesterday... Maybe that caused it?

Try flipping in and out of sneak.

I had an issue where I would start sprinting but stop after 1 second, was very annoying. Fixed it when I went to sneak and back out again. Could be similar, but I doubt it.

Obvious glitch. Post in bugs section, hopefully get added to the long list.

Ok I'll post it in the bugs section

I use a hand crafted daedra bow with a fire enchant and dwarven/elven/glass arrows, the damage is around 80 with my skill level. I don't find it weak at all.

You realise of course that this is not what the OP was having a problem with right?

The naysayers are all correct. People no longer read anything.

I'm pretty surprised about how many people whined in this thread about archery being strong enough yadda yadda. Is it too much asked to even read the first post in the thread, to know what the OP is actually wondering about? I can't phantom how annoying it must be when you start talking to someone irl, only mention a few words and that someone starts to ramble on about something completely besides the point because (s)he wasn't even listening to you. You guys deserve a kick in the nuts, as I'd remark to that annoying real-life person. Yes, even the gals.

Well, about the topic: that's a bug alright. As you probably already knew. Unless you're playing like your character is a total weakling.

They guy preaching in winterhold can't die, I leveled up my archery to 100 and i can't kill him
I fired 3 arrows at his head and nothing happend, the guards didn't even take notice of the fact i was
shooting him.
Arrows seem to become ethereal at a certain distance away from the player, limiting how far away the player can be when using archery.

It s sound like a glitch.
Arrows have a hardcoe limited distance, after some distance the arrow gamewise cease to exist, weak programing.

I really miss the time someone had a brain in TES gameplay design team and you enchanted the arrows and not the bow for extra damage in archery.
Unless you throw the bow at someones head i don t see it making any damage at all.

It's a simple concept. The bow imbues the arrows that are knocked into it with magical energy.

I guess when I poison my bow, it poisons the arrows because they slide on the bow's arrow shelf?. I guess.

That doesn't make sense. I guess when the game states your bow is poisoned, it regards the bow and the arrow knocked into it as a single entity. Otherwise, poisoning a bow makes no sense, as poisons have clearly observable physical limitations, whereas magical enchantments are magical in nature, and are capable of acting in ways that emulate the functions of absent mechanical apparatuses.

Welp, that's just the way it goes. I poison my bow in skyrim. not my arrows. it's then good for 2 poisoned shots, because I went that way in alchemy.

Hello,

I’m an imperial level 15. I started practicing my archery early in the game, until I found all that magic and started using that. Now I just started using my fine Imperial bow again and it’s really weird. I got iron, steel and Nordic arrows. When I shoot all arrows they only shoot 2 feet far.

I don’t understand. Could it be that I got a disease which makes me weak? Or am I wearing wrong apparel? Or an amulet that interferes with it? I haven’t rested in some time, now that I think of it. Other weapons such as swords, axes work fine. It was kind of funny at first, having my bow out, trying to shoot and the arrows nearly dropping at my feet, but now I want to shoot some.

Any help is appreciated.
I'm on Xbox and regardless of which arrow/bow combination I've used the, the power has always been directly proportional to the draw time. The only time it's fallen limply is when I haven't held the RT down long enough. Hope you get it resolved.

I have the same problem as OP.
I can hold R1 (PS3) for ten seconds or more, and the arrow will always fall a few feet ahead of me no matter what.

I did realise that by arrows flew further when my skill got higher but it wasnt that horrible in the beginning. I hope this gets sorted out then.

Thank you for actually reading the first post, unlike most repliers here. But if you had continued to read further on in this tread, you would have seen that we have established that this is in fact a glitch.
How long you press and hold the draw button, does not matter at all if this glitch/bug is in effect...

This happened to me on my last character, who had so many glitches I just had to re-roll.

I get what you're saying. I would draw back my bow (most of the time in sneak mode) and line up my shot, wait for the perfect time and release.....thud....the arrow drops to the ground. The enchanting/alchemy/armor improving tables also stopped working, I couldn't access them at all. Even with some magic skills in the 80's, the adept spells for those schools never showed up at the College. That whole character was a wreck because of glitches.

I started a new character and so far have not experienced anything worse than a bugged quest in Riften (small misc quest, so no big deal). So since you are still at a relatively low level, you might consider starting over to see if the problem carries over to a new character.

Edit: Also LOL at the guy below me

its a tard concept...Coating a gun with teflon doesn t create Armor Piercing Amunition.
IF the bow is magicked why would it create magic ammo ?
If i imbue a bow with healing spell the arrows will heal people then ? So i should shoot myself ? LOL.

Shouldn t you get poisoned first as you grip the bow before the arrow even touch the bow ? huahahahahaha

Apparently I'm very careful when applying the sizzling brew. That, or wearing rubber gloves.

I'll try the "get out of sneak" fix first. If that fails I'll start a different save. I'm not goanna start over yet (it might be a low level, but I wander around a lot and collect, so leveling up slowly.

Strange my arrows don t fly further unless you re refering to some hardscript on the arrow mechanic. If so i really haven t looked into it.
What i perceived is the amount of damage.
I feel no diference in physics (gravity pull) or aim accuracy. being high level or low lvl in archery, which by the way is a pity. Adding a random direction imputer that goes deacreasing as skill improve as well as knocking, pulling and realease faster, would have been wonderfull touches, because IRL thats exactly what happens. You learn to have a steadyer hand, better posture a firmer realease, coordinate realease and breathing and knock and shoot faster. The sum of all those reflect on the end result.
